yeah, there's no way in hell that, after committing $2.3B to a new ballpark for a team that has a history of struggling to draw fans, that they'd turn around and plop down another MLB team 90 miles away. An Orlando team would cannibalize the Rays TV market, too.

Given Comiskey's historical impact on the franchise and how fondly people remember the place, I think the Sox would be crazy if they went with a "post-retro", modern looking design for a new stadium like in Tampa and Vegas. It's not like they'd be trying to manufacture a retro look out of whole cloth that could come off as inauthentic. That's not to say it would be a Comiskey clone, including things that absolutely would not work today, of course. I suppose with the Royals, almost their entire history has been in Kauffman (all but their first 4 seasons), so maybe that's why they seem to be going with a similar look for their proposed new stadium. That being said, hopefully Amtrak and Canal Edge are working on addressing neighborhood concerns and ways to mitigate the impact of moving the maintenance yard to Bridgeport if they don't want to see their project delayed or shot down.

They plan to break ground on the new stadium in September. It'll be an interesting few years coming up with the A's stadium already half built and opening in 2028, the Rays new stadium projected to be open in 2029, and the new Royals stadium (which looks very likely to happen at this point) being planned for 2031.....not to mention possibly two new expansion teams and stadiums by then too.

When Ishbia takes over, I hope he pours money into scouting. They need to pour resources into getting good latin american players, too. But, that being said, I don't get this table. The Sox have almost twice as many scouts as the Cubs? That doesn't pass the smell test unless I'm missing something.

The other big difference is that Colson is 24 years old and has only a little more than 1 season under his belt. Dunn was 32 when the Sox signed him and, as typical for the Sox, on the edge of a huge drop off in production. We'll see if Montgomery can make adjustments.

How close is he going to get to a sub .200 batting avg and/or a sub .700 OPS? Only 6 HRs in July and Aug. This could be part of his adjustment and growth as a MLB player, but nonetheless, I'm glad the Sox have other excellent options in the pipeline who can play SS.

As much as I hated Marriotti, it used to make me cringe when Hawk would start going off on one of his "hiney bird" rants against him during a broadcast. I mean, he wasn't wrong, but still it wasn't exactly Hawk's finest moments on the air. Joe West is different because his ineptness and huge ego was actually affecting the game. But, Hawk was Hawk, he was a broadcasting icon. Schriffen came in as a nobody who didn't even know how to pronounce "Veeck" with guns blazing against the local media.

The A's stadium is already half built. I can't imagine it not being completed at this point. Whether they'll draw enough fans after the new stadium bounce wears off is another question. Yeah, the situation in Miami looks pretty bad. They just spent $1B on a brand new stadium (2012) and they're still bottom of the league in attendance. Even when they made the playoffs in 2023, they only averaged 14k/game. But they have a lease until 2047. I've been to Nationals Park and I think it's fine. It's no retro-era "classic" like Camden or PNC, but I don't see them begging for a new stadium for at least the next couple of decades. The Angels are the ones to watch. Not right away, but when their lease runs out in the 2030s. At that point, the stadium will be approaching 70 years old, will be several decades removed from their 1990s renovations, and has not cemented itself as an "icon" like Dodger Stadium has. They have a terrible owner, but he's 80 and who knows if he'll still be around in 10 years. They have lots of surface lots around the stadium, so possibly a new stadium right next to the existing one? The owners of the Ducks are building a massive entertainment district next to the Honda Center just across the freeway.

I feel bad criticizing the guy. He seems like a decent guy and especially since someone suggested that he might check fan forums. But, I think the Sox should move on from him and find someone else.

We'll see on Thursday, but yeah....it sounds like the city council was part of the revised deal that has been announced. The Rays agreed to chip in more money to the project to get this agreement. Surely they wouldn't have the city council as part of this announcement if they didn't have the votes to approve it. Hopefully this will help address their attendance problems. It also looks like the Royals are well on their way to getting new ballpark deal done. If both the Rays and the Royals get their stadium projects approved, does that leave only the White Sox in MLB with questions lingering about the future of their ballpark? I think everyone else is otherwise set for the foreseeable future. Maybe the Angels at some point.
