Bullpen problem and how to fix it
QUOTE(jackparkman @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) not a manager or even a good baseball mind but here is my opinion anyway using polite in mop up time to get confidence back trying to only use b mac to start innings (seems to buckle comming in with guys on base) not wasting cotts on one or two batters just becasue he is left handed trading jerry owens for every day eddie or scott eyre Jerry Owens is not exactly performing well in AAA, so he won't get a good reliever by himself. Eyre is not going anywhere right now and Everyday Eddie is horrible.

Official Day 1 Draft Thread
QUOTE(farmteam @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) I haven't read the thread, but is Samardzija gone yet? What about the Sox taking a chance on him in the later rounds? Its possible the Sox have interest, but he will likely stay for his Senior season to play football.

With only 35 innings this year, Long could be pitching in the majors by the end of the year. He'll probably start at AA and move quickily.

63. Matt Long, rhp School: Miami (Ohio). Class: Sr. Hometown: Granville, Ohio B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-6. Wt.: 200. Birthdate: 2/23/84. Scouting Report: Long was one of Ohio's top high school prospects in 2002, as scouts looked at his long, lean frame and expected his stuff would mature along with his body. After a detour for Tommy John surgery in 2004 and rehabilitating his elbow in 2005, those projections finally have come true this spring. Long's fastball now sits at 92-94 mph and has peaked at 96. His curveball was his best pitch in high school, and he has regained a hard, tight breaking ball. He also has shown the command and durability scouts hoped for. Miami has used him in relief, and he could move quickly if he remains in that role in pro ball. After turning down the Giants as a 34th-round pick last year, Long is now poised to go much higher, perhaps as early as the supplemental first round.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Minny takes a kid from Joliet Catholic -- we better not be looking at Curtis Granderson Part2 here... He is considered a tough sign out of his scholorship with Purdue. My guess is he goes to college.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) So, Jason, Cerb, any other draft experts -- who should we be looking at with the second pick? Is Hodges a realistic possibility? Dellin Betances (i overrate a ton probably,) big kid who throws hard.

White Sox Select Texas Righty Kyle McCulloch
One thing, in the middle of the article, you say he took off for the Aggies. And it should be longhorns. Other than that it looks real good, especially how quickly you got the article up.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Looks good in the black and white. i am hoping one of my friends get drafted in the later rounds. John Rosinski, OF from New Trier. He's got bloodlines, his dad was the 4th pick by the Cubs in '75.

Round two underway. i hope the sox take a risky player in round 2, we could really use a power arm in the system even if he is a project. Tillman, Betances wouls sure look nice in Sox unis.

Official Day 1 Draft Thread
I really hope Dellin Betances make it to 72, because I would love the Sox to get him. I hope he makes it or if not, go with a college reliever like Melacon (sp?) from Arizona or Perez from Miami.

White Sox Select Texas Righty Kyle McCulloch
nice write-up Jas.

If KW trades Lumsden, would you be pissed?
I would be pissed if we traded Tyler. Out of the guys we have, he has got the best make-up. I would rather trade Haeger, Liotta and Broadway (especially now with McCulloch on board.) Lumsden is a true power pitcher who if not a starter can be a solid reliever. Mid 90's fastball, dynamic slider. From a lefty that is hard to get.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) I'm sure that the seven figure signing bonus will southe his ego... You got a good point. When does the Supplment Round begin?

All I got to say is that McCulloch has got to be pissed. Not for the White Sox as an organization, but that he has got nearly ten guys to jump to make the rotation.

McCulloch, I don't like the pick, I thought the Sox could have gone with a riskier type prospect. But this leads me to believe that we will trade one or two of our pitching prospects at the deadline.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) Money is not an issue with the Angels, so my guess is they take Bard. They do need arms in the system, so that is a good guess.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Lets not get too giddy, someone will snag him before us (think Anaheim). You also have UCLA's lefty who I'm quite high on. If he slides wowza. I said that on Drabek, too and he got picked. I shouldn't get so giddy.

The Sox will be taking a power arm, guarenteed. Beato, Walden, Morris, or Betances.

Does anybody thing Daniel Bard could slip to the Sox? It would be sweet to let him work as a reliever for us down to stretch to save innings and bring him up in Sept.

Damn, Jeffress is a guy I liked. He can pitch near 100 as a high school, but so could Colt Griffin, so I am not real sure what that means.
