Yeah, you're right Spiff. I've been using the refs as an excuse all year. Mike Davis is also a great coach, and I hope we resign him to a 20 year contract, because he never got a fair crack at the job. ------- IU does shoot a lot of three's, but never that many. That's not the style of ball IU's been using to play this solid stretch of basketball from mid-February to now. We've been going inside, with the guards and Killingsworth. Do you honestly think they would just randomly go to something that doesn't work on their own will? They didn't reall have a choice. They didn't get any calls when they did go inside, just ridiculous and invisible over-the-backs and elbows called against us. I just could not understand what was being called on the offensive side, and there were so many invisible fouls away from the basket for breathing on them the wrong way. There's no stopping that.

NCAA Refs/Gambling/Fixes

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) As for the other games, I generally agree that Gonzaga and Duke get a lot of favorable calls, but at least in this game Mallon was a big factor inside. It's also hard to argue for Indiana when they jacked up 36 3's, which was over half their shots. The refs put us into that though; I understand you won't get calls without going inside. Indiana does shoot a lot of three's, but by no stretch did we want to shoot 30+. We've been using the inside a lot more in the recent stretch of good play in the last month. We didn't get any calls when we did go inside, just ridiculous and invisible over-the-backs and elbows called against us. I just could not understand what was being called on the offensive side, and there were so many invisible fouls away from the basket for breathing on them the wrong way. There's no stopping that. -

Well the Mike Davis era is officially over; best of luck in the future. I hate using officiating as a crutch, but good lord. People like to say good teams would prevail from ridonkulous refs, but it shouldn't have to be like that. It should be called straight up and both ways from the beginning. Absolutely disgusting. Indiana didn't look all that horrible, but I'll never believe they got the fair shot. Duke West and Duke will definitely match up in the Final Four if they keep getting these calls.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) Memphis losing would screw a lot of people. I don't know. Memphis is the 1 seed people are doubting the most with good reason. -

QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 10:35 AM) Im gonna go out on a limb and say history is made today. Oral Roberts over Memphis. Its gotta happen sometime. It'd be cool to see happen, but I think that Memphis has heard enough about it too that they'll make sure it doesn't happen. But like you said, it's gotta happen sometime. There's no way the 1's will ALWAYS survive that first game. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) Aboz, greasy, did you notice the lineup Davis had in there toward the end of the first half? If I recall correctly, he had Wilmont, Suhr, Monroe, Calloway and Ben Allen. Where they hell do you expect points to come from there?? Strange lineup. I'm still trying to figure out how IU can go from scoring 51 points to 87 in two consecutive games. Hell, they play like this, the score of the Gonzaga game might be 107-100! The bottom line is, win and move on. Lucky or not, at this point you have to look ahead and not worry about tonight. Ha yeah, we had some different lineups tonight. Monroe hadn't seen action in forever, and he did alright tonight. He was taking Calloway's lead and taking advantage of the Aztec's weak inside defense. The interesting lineup I thought we played was the one we used with Killingsworth and Strick on the bench. Calloway, Monroe, Wilmont, AJ, and Vaden--5 guard set, lol.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 01:34 AM) Probably a little of both. San Diego State is a solid offensive team, and Indiana held Slaughter in check most of the game. Also, Heath was a little off his normal self, but not by a ton. The difference is that Abukar had a really good game, and Williams was a little better than normal. You might be able to attribute the last two to weak defense. Yeah. I'd say SD State definitely deserves some credit for just being on it tonight. My friends and I just kept dropping our jaws at some of the shots they'd get to fall in. It felt like Abukar never missed, and the Aztecs were on fire However, Indiana's defense wasn't perfect, but I don't know when the last time they saw a run and gun offense like that. They did a good job getting turnovers and steals from it; as WS101 said earlier, it'll definitely be good prep for Gonzaga.
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) They still gave them a hell of a game, which is a lot more than a lot of you IU fans thought. If not for a dumb play by Heath and a good bounce before the shot, it would be a different story. You guys got the win, which is nice, but let's not make it sound like the Hoosiers dominated and are on their way to Indianapolis. Whoa, don't put words in my mouth. Where in this thread did I ever say this game was a given? I was nervous about this from the beginning.
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) SDSU is up 10 on Indiana with a little over 13 left. I told you guys. There's still time left, but the Aztecs clearly aren't going down easily. Uh huh. -------- Earl the f***in' pearl Calloway. He's been huge since the UConn game, and Vaden proved that the ankle injury was all for not. I never thought we'd get out alive tonight, but the first round is always like that. I have us losing to Zaga in our bracket, but we've got a great shot to make some noise now that we've got past the first round.

That was sick. Tenn could ride some momentum with that shot and gettind rid of the nerves, but here's hoping that they don't. Because I don't have them getting out of the weekend. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) We've been playing well lately, that's at least a good sign, and they've made their way through a damn tough Big Ten conference this year....I put us in the Sweet 16. I wanted to very badly, but I have us going down to Gonzaga. I certainly think it's possible for us to beat the Zags, if we beat the Aztecs. However, I couldn't determine if I was thinking that as an IU fan or a basketball fan, so I played it conservative on that one. I'd love for them to mess my brackets up all they want though (just not tonight).
