QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Not specifically saying it is anybody in this thread but does anybody else find it amusing that the most fundamentalist Christians in the US also seem to be the most outspoken supporters of the war? I guess that "love your enemies" message of the New Testament really sunk in. As Lenny Bruce said, "I always thought it was 'Thou shalt not kill' not 'Thou shalt not kill but...'." Love thy enemy huh? Lets look at our "enemy" for a minute shall we. Their ultimate goal is to wipe out America and replace it with a muslim theocracy ( this is the gods honest truth ), they murder people, including their own, indiscriminantely, and they bastardize a peace loving religion like Islam by twisting its teachings around to justify murder and destruction. Our "enemy" is not Islam as you subtly imply with your post, but the less than 1 PERCENT of Muslims who seem to think its ok to murder and destroy indiscriminantely to advance their aims of a Taliban like world. This is an enemy which needs to be destroyed and shown no quarter. LCR allow me to reduce the scale of this for a moment to explain it. What do you do when someone is actively trying to kill you and your family and cannot be dissuaded by reason?

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) I saw that, and he was obviously embarrassed. It was hilarious! As for the Uribe play - if Derrek Lee is that dense and clueless, then he deserves what he got. Can you imagine if he had tweaked a hamstring or groin stopping at 2nd base? He was doubly embarrased after just standing there at 1st and getting picked off with the game on the line the previous afternoon. Derek Lee is totally dense and clueless. You would expect a 9 year old playing ball with his friends to get fooled by something like that not a "professional" baseball player. Uribe took a shot and it paid off in saving us a run and if Lee was too stupid as to fall for it thats his own problem.

QUOTE(Pastime @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) With the Beck song "Loser" playing in the background ..... "Hey, I put a batting cage in my basement. What else can I do?" You have no idea how funny that is.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) You say that like it's a bad thing.... That's actually an improvement. Sad isin't it? LOL Worse still is that Crede has dropped 70 points off his average since his hitting streak got snapped.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) Now forgive me, I didn't see the 1st 4 innings so I don't know what Santana was throwing than but from the time I turned the game on Santana was also throwing 1st pitch changeups for strikes and when he was throwing that fastball he wasn't throwing it down the tube. He was painting the corner on the 1st pitch fastball and when a guy locates his fastball, its not a pitch you want to swing at (especially on the 1st pitch, imo). Now I'm with cheat and tempe in terms of advance scouting. Since everyone seems to say he was pitching all day on the outside portion, which means you gotta start noticing that and adjusting to it. If this is what he does down in the minors as well as in the majors you should at least have that idea. The Sox definately didn't have that idea. Thats not to take anything away from Santana though, its not easy pinpointing your stuff like he was tonight and he was throwing his fastball, change, and sliders for strikes. Dont misunderstand. I give the kid his props. As you said he hit his spots beautifully and that set up the junk balls low and away for strikeouts. You have to make adjustments though and we didn't

5/24/05 Game Thread Sox@ L.A. Angels of Anaheim
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Whitesoxfan56's topic in 2005 Season in Review
We need MB to go out there and handle business. That and hopefully the offense can bounce back and get him a few runs. RIP EM!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Thats what happens when a guy is locating and your always finding yourself down in the count 1-2, 0-2. Your in a defensive mode and the breaking pitch looks like it may be close and bam you swing and it ends up being outside. Yup and those 0-2, 1-2 counts are coming from us letting a first pitch fastball right over go by for strike 1.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) I wonder how many 94 MPH fastballs with late breaking movement Nuke has hit. Let alone one that was spotted like Santana was last night. As opposed to how many breaking pitches away that guys like Crede waved at and missed? Watching the highlights (if you can call them that ) again on MLBTV I counted 7 strikeouts on off speed stuff between 80-85. 6 of those Ks were junk low and away.

QUOTE(Tannerfan @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) I just got home from the game, and that was one sorry effort. Maybe it was the travel after playing yesterday, or a let down after wininng two of three against the Cubs but every at bat was weak except for the great Tadahito. Visciano has to be pushed to ther back of the pen. He is a waste of time. Konerko got himself a couple of base knocks tonight too. Good to see his average heading north again for a change.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) Jason is a Angels season tix holder, so it's not like you're not welcome around here... The scouting report thing is exactly what I was going to say. Actually I was going to wait until the morning and just agree with JimH when he said it. The advance scouts for this team either don't exist, or spend a lot of time scouting which minor league stadium has the best concession stands. No doubt Santana looked great tonight, but our hitters looked like they watched a 1 minute video of Santana allowing the Cycle to the first 4 batters he faced, and they were like "yeah, we've got this" Santana didn't do anything different than any other pitcher that shut us down this year. All he did was throw a fastball over for the first pitch then go away with junk the rest of the at bat. Not like we made it that hard for him. You mention scouting reports? I'd wager that the scouting reports on our lineup say exactly what I just said here.

QUOTE(ReinsdorfSucks @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) well the chances are pretty darn good that if this team does make the playoffs they will have to play a west coast team Yeah. We're gonna have to learn to play out there one of these years if we ever expect to win anything.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) i love it when people like it when we lose...yea real fans you are :puke Who likes it when we lose? Names?

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) Lol, after a tough loss like this I can't look at soxtalk and watch everyone b**** because it gets me more upset so I don't come back until the next day but today I had to talk about it. Hopefully tomorrow Buehrle can keep his streak of atleast 6 innings pitched and also lower that ERA a little so he can get some good consideration for the AS game. MB = money. If we get him a couple of runs and dont s*** on ourselves defensively we'll be fine. Sometimes people just have to vent after a disgusting loss like this one and this happens to be how its done.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) WOW VIZ SUCKS I gotta go with Baj. There's no way he could be worse than "Meatball" Vizcaino. Serve up another one you ass.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) BINGO!!!! Hitting the outside pitch makes them pitch you inside. That is the pitch you drive and pull for power. Last year in Cleveland there was a game were we scored 14 runs. In the first two innings they tried that paint the outside corner crap. Hit after hit was to right and to center. Then the pitcher came in and homers started raining. Thats the approach they should have, keep the opposing pitcher honest. The following game after that, they went back to pull only and scored 1 run on a few hits. Pauly pulling an inside pitch. No problem with that. Pauly reaching for a pitch on the outside black and trying to pull it. What is he really going to do with that pitch besides roll it over for a ground out or pop it up. Its amazing how observant fans can identify things like this but certain hitting coaches, who have the luxury of film and scouting reports, and a good many of the players cannot.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) They were not charged as errors. Only uribe's in the 8th inning was. I can't believe Cruddy didn't get charged with an error for dropping that throw.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Everett is lousy and has been for 90% of this season. The past month I could count on one hand the type of quality ab's he's had, one of which actually came late in todays game when he worked a full count and fouled off a good number of pitches. It was what I'd deem a productive out. Of course to me he's lost some mustard on his swing and can't catch the fastball like he once could. Everett, Crede, Timo...3 guys who in my mind shouldn't be starting. Now Everett is better than some options, but no one is going to tell me that Brian Anderson isn't capable of hitting .245 with a little power. The only thing he doesn't have is the experience and veteran know how of a guy like Carl at this point. Plus Anderson is one hell of a defender. Luckily he's tearing the cover off the ball in AAA and could be a definate option later in the year (if he 's not dealt for a 3rd baseman). All that being said, this team can win with those holes, and if Frank comes back into close to decent form it will be one more step forward. Everett cracked me the hell up tonight. Watching him swing was like watching a 5 year old in the "fast" batting cage. It was totally brutal.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) If they approached this like they approach tough pitchers and tried to make contact and not over complicate things by trying to hit long shots. If on 3-1 Everett wasnt trying to park one, instead of making contact and moving the runner over. I give the angels pitcher credit. He hit his spots on the outside corner. We will see a steady diet of this until our hitters learn that there is other parts of the park besides left and right field bleachers. It wasn't that hard to dominate this lineup. Step 1: Throw a first pitch fastball. They never swing at that. Step 2: Throw offspeed crap low and away the rest of the AB. If they dont pull it to the left side they will K and look bad doing it. Step 3: Walk back to the dugout, have a cup of Gatorade and thank the guy who handed you the scouting report.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:56 PM) Santana pitched brilliantly. Jon had some tough luck and the game could of been closer, but there wasn't much the Sox could do against Santana. Santana has flat out nasty stuff and was throwing strikes all day long. Nothing you can do but tip your cap and move on. Its quite obvious this was by far the best pitching performance the Sox have faced all season and there is no harm in losing this way (Santana was dynomite). Hell I didn't see hardly any, if any opportunities where the Sox missed a cookie. On one random sidenote, I am no longer a supporter of Joe Crede. It has nothing to do with dropping that ball today (he's a good defensive player) but I'm sick and tired of his long ass swing. Problem is as of now the Sox have no other options, but you can bet your ass Crede is going to be dealt at the deadline and that the Sox will have a new 3rd baseman (which will definately help out this offense). I supported Crede for years, but today that support ends. He hasn't adjusted s*** to his swing and its long and ugly and good lord does he have slow hands. YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED!!!!!!! BRAVO!

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) You can't rag on a guy for a loss, but you can rag on a guy for sucking the whole year. *cough* CRUDDY *cough*

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) The thing I don't understand is that half this f***in team is new and still the same old problems. Matchup against a rookie = shutout, west coast trips = f***ed. How about trying to pull everything that gets thrown on the outer half? How about letting strike one go by on a nice pitch down the pike and then waving at garbage low and away. Its the same story every night.

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Ok I dont want to add to any of these negative threads....we lost, its gonna happen....especially on the west coast.....were not gonna play .700 ball forever....Gotta give props to the rook that shut us down....we would have lost anyway if crede caught that ball....i agree viz sucks though.....but he is a newbie so i have the right to look down upon him If Cruddy makes that play and Timo doesn't stop running on that pop fly to short center then they dont score. But whatever. Its hard to win when you cant hit anything anyway.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) And to think I thought it would be a return of: We're certainly getting there. If he gave up lots of singles and doubles then Id say Tee Ball stand but he just loves serving up meatballs to the opposition so hence the name.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) LOL, ugh im just not happy, I really wanted Jon to get #9. Now I will have Halo fans on my ass which really pisses me off. If Jon had gotten rocked I wouldn't have been as upset as I am over him getting screwed by the defense. That game was just painful to watch.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 23, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) So if Viz-meatball wouldn't had served up his normal meal and all the defense plays were played right then that means that we would be tied and this game wouldnt be over?? We still would have had half a chance cause the game would still have been scoreless in that inning and Viz wouldn't have been in there. Defense sucked ass tonight.
