  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On talent alone of course you take Kemp, but that's not the question. The question is...would you take, oh, let's say Michael Barret on the Sox right now (if he was given to you for nothing)? Do you want a guy who's already started fights with your organization on your team? Anyway, I still think the Dodgers would be insane not to make a run @ Dye this year, and I think the Sox would be silly not to listen. I don't believe he started the fight. I wouldn't compare him to Michael Barrett. I would take Kemp and Betemit on the Sox for Dye in a heartbeat.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because it backs up my opinion. Not Mark's. Mine. But your point is flawed because you are a fan and don't know anything about Mark's personal or financial life. Your point is not a point.. it's an OPINION. True dat. I agree. Point does not equal opinion. His is an opinion and not a point. Apples and oranges.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No one ever said they were guaranteed to but those minor league numbers coupled with his tools are why he's so highly touted. I think you are making me hate him and I don;t even know him or have seen him play. Wierd.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So why aren't you a Chris Young fan? He doesn't play for my favorite team. I have no need to be his fan.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to mention the 3 walkoffs, .450 SLG% and 25 X-base hits. He put up near 30/30 numbers in a pitcher's park at Birmingham at age 21 and a near .900 OPS as a 22 year old in AAA last year. Incredibly impressive stuff. I know his minor league numbers, but that doesn't mean it will translate to the majors. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This coming from the person who initially said: I know. You like that?
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Like Kalapse said, 3 walkoff homers will do that. Guys who come through in the clutch usually have a place in the fans heart, Mr. Crede for example. Is he awesome defensively? I haven't seen him play, so I really don't have a clue. I love Crede's defense as much as his clutch hits.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And a slugging percentage close to .450. And 25 extra basehits, which would rate in a tie for first on the Sox. Oh, yeah, he's a rookie too. You can arrange the stats anyway you want to make it look good. I understand he is a rookie - jeeze.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's got a ways to go but that is not bad production from a rookie, it really isn't. It isn't bad for a rookie, but is that really 12th best and good enough to be a fan fave? That is just hard to believe for me. Either the standards have lowered or Arizona fans are very easy to please.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was rated the 12th best prospect in the game by Baseball America in February. Good luck getting better value than that for Vazquez. To say it's simply a "man-crush" that this board has on him is beyond ridiculous, the guy has become a fan favorite in Arizona and is considered one of the best young players in the game by the leading minor league publication. Yeah, it's probably just a man crush. really? A .250 hitter with an OBP of .285? That equals 12th best and an Arizona fan favorite? They must be easy to please.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Betemit plays a pretty damn good 3B and can hold his own at SS and if you can play either of those positions you can play 2B. I don't think the Sox would accept Kemp. I would love to have Kemp and Betemit for Dye. I think that would be a freaking steal. If Betemit can play SS that is freaking awesome. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not exactly sure about the details of Kemp's past "issues", but didn't he punch somebody on the Barons? I also want to say Razor Shines was coach then, but not I'm not 100% sure about that. After the injuries and the poor start to the season for Dye, I'd take any of the Dodgers' guys straight up for Dye -- Kemp, Loney or Billingsly are the guys I'm thinking about. If it gets close to the deadline and nothing is happening, I'd do Betemit for Dye, straight up. He supposedly punched the manager Cron, but when they looked at the tape he didn't punch anyone. He was cleared of everything. I would love to have Kemp and Betemit for Dye. Would the Dodgers really do that deal?
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is as fun as it gets in terms of off the field stuff. So what is ESPN 1000 reporting? There is nothing going on at all? There is no deal in the works?
  12. What's going on? what is the truth? I am listening to the Score right now and everyone is talking like it is a done deal. Sox fans are calling in and celebrating. What the hell is going on? Did Buehrle sign an extension or not?
  13. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Clearly, anyone who would want to dump the hitting coach of the worst offense in baseball for almost 2 half-seasons now is a "Cubs" fan. What a ridiculous idea, getting rid of the hitting coach of the team that is dead last in almost every offensive category! How foolish! Yeah, I already answered this and it has nothing to do with what you stated. Read over the post to see why you would be classified as this. Clueless. Since you are being so selective as to what Greg Walker is responsible for then I will be selective as well. You think he is responsible for the team hitting so poorly? I think he is responsible for any player's good years or streaks while he has been or is their coach. How is a hitting coach responsible for what you see on the field this year? How? Please tell me. How do you justify that? Jeeze, have a mind of your own. Think for once in your life. Use your brain.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If this was the Mariners or Yankees trading Jones for Abercrombie, I bet this would be a different story from some people. I'm just saying, he's a better pick up than some A ball scrub. no different than an A ball scrub - both are meaningless. It would be no different if it were the Mariners or Yankees getting Abercrombie. None.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The simple fact that he is athletic and still has more potential than Jones. They got a major leaguer, thats more than I would have expected them to get. It's not great, but if people make this some sort of steal for the Marlins, then that is quite ridiculous. Depends on your definition of major leaguer (he was just sent down and called back up in the same day) and potential I guess. Does Luis Tererro still have potential? Athleticism is meaningless if you can't hit the little round ball - just ask our many disappointing prospects. No one said it was a steal for the marlins, but it is not a good deal for the Cubs either. At least the Marlins are getting a MLB player that can get 20-25 HRs and hit .250 from the left side of the plate. That is better than what the Cubs got in return.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats not a bad deal for the Cubs. How is that? He is a 27 year old career .212 hitter. What makes you think they got better than what they gave?
  17. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I said Mrs. Walker about 8-9 pages ago. Wow....36 pages later and you're still on the box!!! You go ssi! So are you. Nice job.
  18. Rumor has it that he has just been traded to the Marlins. Unknown for who or what. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What are you talking about? Are you not reading it the same way I am then? You posted the exact quote I am talking about. Doesn't it seem to you that the writer thinks that that is such a great offer that the Cardinals should actually think twice about doing it? Doesn't it read to you that the writer thinks this is such a great package for Buehrle? What are you talking about?
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So Ken & Jerry have confirmed to you that they are definitely not going more than 3 years in an offer to Mark? Do you have any information on this Steff? Are they willing to go for 5 years? What is the issue here? THe years, the money, or both?
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're going to be incredibly disappointed with the return the Sox get on Buehrle and Contreras. Perhaps the Diamondbacks would be interested in moving Justin Upton for Contreras since that's pretty damn close to the equivalent of the Mets dealing Martinez. I don't claim to know everything, despite what you say, I'm just using logic here. A trade of Martinez for Contreras makes absolutely no sense especially with Willis being perpetually available and in desperate need of a young, studly outfielder. If you really think any team is going to trade one of the top 5 prospects in baseball for an aging, expensive Contreras then you can continue to dream but you should be prepared for a huge let down. Why are you attacking me? I was complimenting you. I apologized and gave you a sincere compliment. What is wrong with this situationg? QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Its gotten to the point that I see a thread title and if Kalapse has replied in it I take a look because I'm bound to learn something or come across a valid point (Gene is another one of those posters I typically will venture in a thread if I see him partaking in it). I agree they are good posters, but I would not go as far as you put it.
  22. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cub fan? Thanks. Just because my opinion differs from yours, I don't deserve that. Do we know if it was Walker? No. Would we know now if we had fired Walker a month ago? Yes. Would you want the GM to make decisions that can shape the franchise for years without knowing the problem? No. Look, I'm one of the most optimistic people to ever post here. I know that Walker is not the root of all evil. His replacement would have been an inexpensive way to try to jump start the offense. Cooper has 2005. Even in 2005 the offense was anemic. I appreciate your opinion. I do not believe in firing a coach because of a slump. This is no slump. This is a trend that began last summer. Not because our opinions differ, but that you are just looking for a cosmetic change or a quick fix. Just like all Cub fans have been doing since 1908. It would be meaningless to do so if you are keeping this same group of hitters. His replacement would have been and would be Manny Trillo. He is not the answer. He is not jumpstarting anything. That is a wierd theory that some fans made up in their head. It doesn't work that way. You need different players. It is not up to us as fans to make the decisions based on our guesses and judgements. KW doesn't think it is the coaches. He gets paid to make those judgements and is around the team and can judge them in this respect a lot better than you and I or any other fan can. You can tell just by watching the games that it is not a coaching fix. This is a player/talent fix.
  23. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I assume they don't want it considering they didn't do it. But the writer made it seem like a great deal - like the Cardinals should be reluctant to do it. Messed up.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about this then, if Fernando Martinez were available Dontrelle Willis would be wearing orange and blue right now. Sorry everyone, next time you have a question about prospects and what is avaible and what is not and what other teams would look for and have wanted then Kalapse is your man. He knows all of this stuff and there is not a doubt about it.
  25. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Interestingly enough, there was some mention over at MLBtraderumors.com of GM's trading for players specifically to receive the compensation picks. There has been some speculation that this is the interest the DRays may have in Buehrle- to offer players they deem less valuable than the compensation picks they could get when Mark walks. Kenny may have fallen prey to this as a young GM, however, I assume he is wise to this tactic at this stage in his career. However, if they want to give us Carl Crawford then they can have Buehrle and those compensation picks.
