  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) World wide attention has been hijacked by the extremists. There is a difference. Yea, killing 3,000 + people on American soil will kind of draw attention.
  2. Like it or not, the Muslim population has been hijacked by these extremeists. It's very unfortunate.
  3. OH OH OH... now the Democrats don't have a soundbyte anymore - but over the weekend, you heard nothing but this. But no, the media's not biased or anything. I heard several soundbytes Sunday morning about this.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Ah the oldest trick in the book... How about we go with this really awful option? No? Well how about this option that isn't quite as bad? Anyway, I wonder what the reason to not listen to this guy will be? Yea, the old Harriet Myers trick. What a freaking debacle.
  5. The same could be said for ethanol. I do not have the source, but I have read with my own beadie little eyeballs that it takes .85 gallons of oil based energy to make one gallon of ethanol... and therefore, it's totally counterproductive to even be making it in the first place.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) Brian, I have never been happier, healthier or more productive/successful in my endeavors. And it seems like everyday is better than the last. Thanks for asking. Hehe. You're just having too much fun.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) Is there? QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 12:39 AM) Give him your hat Kap . . . QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 12:56 AM) Please break down the step by step process of recycling a plastic bottle. I'm being serious. Is there really that much waste by recycling?
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) I stopped recyling all together. I really should recycle my aluminum cans, but I don't care about not getting back my $.05 deposit. Recycling anything but aluminum is bad for the planet. There is more energy consumption in recycling a plastic bottle than just burying it and making a new one from scratch. Is there?
  9. I'm a Harley-Davidson straw sucking redneck hickseed from Texas.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) Here's a bone to pick over, another log for the fire. Looking over the anarchy that is Iraq. Waring factions, groups who hate each other, lawlessness. What if a strong dictator is the best form of government? Well, it is, in a sense.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) What's irritating about this is that the new Bush plan is the original surge plan's completion and its being signaled a shift in strategy when in reality, its not a shift at all. No, on a high level, it's not... but it really depends on what they do after areas are cleared as to whether it's a real shift... Honestly, I'm skeptical like the rest of you, but I always allow for the fact that they may have learned something.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) Kap, Good or bad, a free press is much better for us then dismissing everything that is said, which is what I believe the GOP party wants. If it is negative, it's a media bias against us, it can't actually be true. Yes, there are hacks on both sides, but the vast majority of stuff is pretty well balanced over time. Not as much as it used to be... Now, it's either one way or the other. How DARE anyone have independent thought? You have to be aligned with the far right or left, depending on your views, or you're totally out of touch with your party. And the thing is, that's really true now.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) If you expected Germany to step to the forefront on this issue, you are kidding yourselves. They have way too many business interests in Iran to step away from this regime. As does almost all of Western Europe - and that's the same situation that we found ourselves with 4 years ago with Iraq, too... only we didn't realize they were actually on the take from the oil for food program.
  14. I pretty much have an aversion to almost all the main media people. I really do... no matter what "side" you're on or party affiliation... because they are all hacks trying to tear down the other side. When I get on a Democrat rant, it's because I read their quotes and simply think, WTF - and most of the time, they are piling on pieces of hyperbolic bulls*** that sounds good (it's called politics). I also think that the Re-pube-licans do the same thing, but it's not as direct, it's more veiled, which is probably more dangerous in a way.
  15. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) The problem is the reliability and conviction of the person. If they are constantly changing their positions based on what the political will is this month, but claim to strongly hold these beliefs, they're full of bullcrap. That's not the type of person you want or need leading a country. If, however, they change their opinion based on new facts instead of new opinion polls, or vote against their own beliefs in order to vote as their constituants want, its a different story. Bingo. Very well said.
  16. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) That's why for my news I turn to Stephen Colbert. You know, I've never watched that, either. I should probably start, though, he sounds pretty funny.
  17. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) The "new" Bush plan is just the exact same plan from before the surge. You know, the "stay the course" plan that hadn't worked for 4 years. "What to do with Iraq" is a very difficult question to answer; that doesn't mean we should go with the answer we already know is wrong. I guess it's hard to say if there is a difference - meaning - if control is kept in the areas rather then letting them go to garbage, then the "plan" will be working where it wasn't the last time. That is the part that remains to be seen. However, if we are just going to turn things over and it goes to hell in a handbasket right away, then there's a major problem and it is something that can't be handled by this president. Don't get me wrong here - more of the same is not acceptable.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) To each their own. I can say the same thing about . Ok, and I'd probably agree with you on most of them. Bill O'Reilly = turd. Just an example.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) After watching the actual video I'm not sure what the hoopla is all about. Actually, nothing. The hoopla on this is nothing. But Olbermann is a piece of s*** anyway.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) Olbermann is kind of ridiculously over the top, but, all Balta was doing here was providing the actual video instead of a commentary on it. I don't see how that is bad. If he was providing the video, that's cool... but to defend this piece of s*** is totally another.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Considering how many details are left out of said article, including Olbermann's entire actual argument, I'll just link to the actual video they're trying to Bash Olbermann with, and let people decide on their own whether or not the points in that article are valid. You're actually defending Olbermann? Wow, just wow.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I didn't say anything was solid, I don't think. What I was saying was that analyis in that clip from SS2K5 was really poor analysis of the numbers. And by the way, I agree that the poll has some potentially huge bias factors in it. It has to. Too many things that would skew it. I was talking about the "other" steaming pile of poo thread (or one of them, aren't they all just steaming piles of poo?) At least here at the filibuster, we can say we're composting, and therefore environmentally friendly. . .
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Nice BTW, if you ever need someone to laugh at you, you know how to get ahold of me! Gee, what are friends for?
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) TMI!!!! Hopefully you don't have a dog. Wait until his daughter discovers he leaves the toilet seat up, too. Then he'll flush every time.
  25. -I just replaced most of our lightbulbs. I need to find some that I can put over our sinks in the bathrooms to replace those annoying lights... that are in there now - then all my lights would be CFL's. -Programmable thermotats - 82 in the day, 78 at night. -Living in Dallas, it's virtually impossible to cut down in driving. Everything here is soooooooo spread out, and it's a lot different then Chicago in that aspect. However, I did land a job 5 minutes from the house. -We don't have a choice in electricity, even though we're supposed to - because we live in a co-op area. -I told the guy off at TXU during an interview, because he was a prick. And I basically decided then and there I would never work for a manipulative company like that - ever. My interview there (it was for the division that was going to put in the coal-fired power plants all over Texas) told me all I ever needed to know about people like that. I actually walked out. Did it change anything? No (although they're not putting in all the plants like they said they would). -We try to conserve water, but that's not easy either, living in Texas. -I'm all for the hiking bit.
