  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 5, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) Keith alluded to this before. We need a long reliever, just because we haven't needed on yet doesn't mean we won't need one. Eventually one of our starters is going to get knocked out early and we're going to need Neal to eat up some innings. Kevin Walker's line at Charlotte: 11.2 IP, 9 H's, 7 BB's, 8 R (8 ER), 4 HR's. And we're b****ing about Neal?
  2. Hermy shouldn't be pulled. He got one guy out that inning; let him go in the ninth, we don't want the Cleveland debacle all over again.
  3. Maybe I'm biased, but I like what Donn adds to the broadcast. Moreso than DJ, at least, but that's not saying much. I dunno, it just seems like Donn actually brings something to the table, not just "UH-OH" and "BYE-BYE".
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) Which is one reason why I think the save stat is tremendously overrated. The only I can figure is as a pitcher records more saves (even if he isn't a closer) he'll command more money because of that stupid stat. Yep, which is unfortunate. I like what Ozzie's doing. I see Hermanson coming into the game now. f*** the 'closer' role, use Hermy when you need to get a string of tough righties out, and use Marte/Vizcaino when you need to get out some tough lefties. We have four guys that I'm semi-comfortable with getting the last three outs in the game; which, in most cases, are less pressuring than the two prior innings.
  5. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 5, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) No I mean Neal Cotts....err...I mean Neal Botch Maybe Vinny Castilla can cure our bullpen 'problems'... :rolly
  6. Donn with an interesting and smart point. He says that a lot of times, the tougher outs are in the seventh and eighth innings, not the ninth. So, why not use your better relievers in those innings?
  7. I bought the Hardball Times Bullpen book, and last year, they have Adkins at a WPA (Win Probability Added) of .024 per game, with Cotts at a worse .038. However, they also have Cotts pitching in higher pressure situations -- making the two about equal. Cotts has a better fastball, plus he's lefty. He gets the nod as the last guy in the 'pen, in my book.
  8. Jon Adkins is getting rocked at Charlotte, BTW. Adkins isn't all that much better than Cotts, if better at all...
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Until Cotts can get some control, he can't be used in crucial situations. The shame is that the good looking lefty, K. Wunsch, looks solid for the Dodgers so far. And who exactly would our long man be if Wunsch was in our bullpen rather than Cotts?
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) Let's put a positive spin on this thing. About three days ago, we wanted Dye out of the lineup. It seems like he's coming out of his funk, so maybe PK will soon, too. I'm thinking more about Everett. He can't be benched. He's been our best middle-of-the-order guy this season, easy.
  11. Can Dye/Everett play first-base? I assume Dye would be able to, I mean, he played SS... Just asking, because, well, if Thomas gets back and it's going like this, you really can't bench any of Dye-Rowand-Podsednik. Konerko, at this point, is the weak link in our lineup...
  12. Ick. While Scotty is taking more walks, that OBP is falling. Me no likey when Scotty only get on base at a .330 clip. He's not there yet, but I think he's below .350 now...
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) 2 or 3 years at about $11 mill off the top of my head. Ah. Nevermind. Had a thought, but that's easily gone now...
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) Or he still looks like s***... How much does Sweeney have left on his contract? And through what year? Do you know offhand?
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Right now can somebody compare the ratio of GB/FB Pods is hitting this season compared to last year, because that was his main problem for the Brewers. That's got Juggernaut written all over it... I don't care how he gets on. Hell, I don't care if he doesn't get a hit the rest of the season (well, that's stretching it a bit). Just get on-base. Draw walks. Whatever.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) Which is important because Pods and Konerko would have almost half of our total BB's together. If Podsednik is .250/.350 all year, that's fine. Not the ideal average, but a .350 OBP is alright. Not stellar, but Ok -- certainly better than last year, regardless of how many SB's.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) Pods is now 3 for his last 26. Konerko is 0 for last 20.....how are we winning so much? But he's walking more. Which is good.
  18. Donn Pall talking about Moneyball -- yes! It runs in the family, I guess.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) Well LA didn't seem too concerned with defense as evident by non-tendering Alex Cora, and signing Jose Valentin to play third. Hee Seop Choi f***ing sucks. Aww, come on, Choi isn't that bad. 106 OPS+ for his career is dissappointing, but not terrible. But, if you could upgrade to Mike Sweeney for a reasonable price, I think they'll do it. Come on guys, lay off Donn a bit. I'm related to him. He's my mom's cousin (or second cousin). Easy now...
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 4, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Again, honestly, for a team that is off to the best start in it's history, this is pretty damn pathetic and if JR moved the team, I wouldn't be able to say he's dumb for doing so. I don't see many other fans making excuses for not going. Like sox-r-us said, Seattle draws alot and they have nothing but cub-like fans there. Simply no excuse at all. And yes, I do go to alot of games and for the 50th time, I plan on going to 60+ this season. What's pathetic? The fact that we had an awesome attendence for the month of April -- better than last year -- even when the month included such huge attractions like Detroit, Cleveland, and Seattle? Sheesh. b**** b**** b****. And, I just read SS2K's post. I think it's damn impressive, the best April attendence since '94, for a month that didn't even include the likes of Boston, New York, the Cubs. We're going to draw well when we play those teams -- and once summer hits, people are out of school, work, etc -- this won't even be discussed anymore, I guarantee it. Or gaurantee -- one of the two. :banghead
  21. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:46 AM) You may not give a f***, but if you really cared about the long term success of this team, you would too. If there is one GUARANTEE about the Sox, it is that their payroll is directly proportional to the attendance and that is NOT going to change. And yes, higher payroll DOES NOT always equate to success, but with Kenny as our GM, I would love to see our team with a 100M payroll some day. As hard as he works, he would end our ineptness if he had that kind of payroll, no doubt in my mind. Higher payrolls do give you a better chance to win. The Pirates and Brewers and Royals have never won anything in the recent memory because of that very reason. So again, if you really cared about the Sox, you would give a f*** about the attendance. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we keep Frank here next year or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we sign Garland long term or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we re-sign Paulie long terms or get a big bat to replace him or not Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we go finding the next Jimenez or Royce Clayton or Uribe instead of ARod or not. So STFU if you have no clue. Us having no clue? You're the one who wants Vinny F'n Castilla...
