QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Can I ask why all the sudden people wanna trade Juan? Yeah, really. Uribe = the shiznit. That means awesome, right?

I'm so glad that this has so much to do with the Sox... :rolly

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) I have a wild card....when you get into the playoffs, you have to beat the best team out there. And one way to beat them is getting someone they badly need. If you look at the Yankees and Bo Sox, they both need pitching IMO. Their pitchers have injury issues or are geting up in age (Kevin Brown, David Wells, Curt Schilling, Randy Johnson, Mussina, Jared Wright etc) The one pitcher that will definitely be on the market will be Roger Clemens. If he goes back to the Yankees, we are focked because I just do not see us being able to beat the Yankees then, and if we are serious about a World Series win, we HAVE to stop them from getting Clemens. We have more to offer than the Yanks or Bo Sox. I would get Clemens, put the Count into the Bull pen and we are set for the playoffs. We improve our BP too that way. Ok -- let's give them Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson, along with Jon Garland, for a half a season of Roger Clemens. Awesome. :headshake

The doctors called it a 'muscle strain'. Kerry is out at least three weeks. Link coming...

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) I think Uribe for Furcal makes a world of sense because both teams would be contending but not really lose anything. We'd get a guy who can leadoff or hit higher in the order in Furcal with the best arm at SS in baseball and give up a guy of lesser talent. That said, Atlanta might be happy to get a guy in Uribe who they can control and is cheap. I think it'd be a trade that could potentially make a lot of sense for both teams. Or we can just keep Uribe and enjoy how awesome he is defensively, as well as bringing a pretty solid stick to the plate...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) And personally speaking, considering Duque isn't necessarily going to hold up...I would tell them go to hell. With all the good prospects the Sox have its going to be harder to not give up top notch talent. Do you guys really think it would take both McCarthy and Anderson? I was thinking Crede + a couple of prospects, but not quite McCarthy/Sweeney/Anderson-like prospects...?

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Yes, I think so. Now, I think the offense is going to get better but we'll be fine either way. The sox are averaging 4.6 runs per game as of right now, the twins last year averaged 4.8 runs per game. This is a team that is playing more and more like Minny this year and can win games in ways the twins did last year. Hmm, well, I think we'd struggle to play .500 ball from here on out if we were to hit like this for the rest of the season, but I guess that's just a difference of opinions.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) Once again, the Sox are winning.... You will see these people again if and when the teams falls. LOL, and CRector? Or whatever his name was? Where's the "Decline and Fall of Mark Buehrle" thread when ya need it... -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Well -- why is it these clutch guys only turn it on at certain times? Something I've always wondered. I'd certainly -- at least, for the purpose of this thread -- like a definition of clutch. Because if it's getting a hit with a RISP, then I don't think we've been doing that well (though I could be wrong -- I can't find a collective team stat-page of how we've hit with RISP, bases loaded, etc etc). Not to mention, what 0 for twenty-something with the bases loaded? I'm really not trying to bring down what the Sox have done. I'm happy as hell. I'm just saying, you can't defend the hitting thus far -- IMO. The pitching has been awesome, and is the reason that we're 18-7. Not because of 'smallball', 'smartball', or whatever... And if the hitting were to stay the same as it has for April over the whole season -- which I'm not suggesting it will -- then we won't keep winning.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) I'll defend it. They aren't putting up astronomical numbers but for the most part they've come up with every single clutch hit they've had to. You'll win a ton of games like that, that's what the twins have done for years. Good pitching and timely hitting. The individual stats will improve but as long as the timely hittings there the offense will be fine. So, if we hit like this the rest of the year, we'll be fine? I don't know... It just seems like if our pitching wasn't so good, we'd be in one real big hole right now. Luckily (I shouldn't say luckily like it came out of the blue -- it's one of the better staff's in the AL), it's been beyond excellent.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 2, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Pitching, pitching, pitching is what's keeping the Sox going. I think Gleeman is 100% right about what's gone right so far for the Sox. And he does say that the offense will get better, so that we don't have to expect magic from our starters all year. I think Jon, at least, has been flukey bad. And Duque is a big improvement if his health holds up. But if our starters revert to their career average numbers -- we're in big trouble. Bingo. I can't see how anyone can actually defend our offensive production at this point, because in simple terms, it has sucked. I can see, however, someone defending that we improve upon that number, because too many guys were hitting well below what they should be hitting.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) See-our record in 1 run games. Record in April, 2004, in one-run games (unless I counted wrong) -- 7-1. I guess that was "smart-ball" too, huh?

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 2, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) We are now a more sound team...speed at the top of the lineup...better pitching(starting and bullpen)....more ability to manufacture runs...and still able to blast the ball out of the park. That is what I know...and I think we're going to be fine. How exactly has manufacturing runs helped us in April? We've gotten lucky that our pitching has been so good -- which, was a good job by Kenny (and not really noted enough in the article, IMO). Other than the fact that he mentions the pitching staff coming back to earth, yet doesn't mention the offense getting it back together (after an awful April), I have no problems with the article. We were off to a hot start last year, and nothing came of it. I will say, though, I'm ten times more confident in this year's team than in last year's team.

Yes! I love this show. And, while the older episodes airing on Cartoon Network and TBS were still funny, it's good to see some new episodes come out. YES!

I wanted to post this somewhere, but didn't think it deserved it's own thread. I'm starting a blog. I don't think I'm going to have time to update it daily, but twice-three times a week sounds right. I'll have the link posted in my sig, asap. This first week probably won't have a lot of stuff because my AP American History test is this Friday, but after that, hopefully I'll be able to spend some more time on it.

Nice job, Jenks and Reynoso!

Just got back from the game. Jon was awesome. Stellar performance. Lopez looked decent defensively, nice that he got a hit, but I'm not expecting much from him offensively. Konerko's foul ball was a bomb. If he straightens that out a wee bit, it would have been in the last row of the bleachers. He really got ahold of that one. Timo still sucks, but he had a nice bunt. Homered, too, which was nice. Keep it goin', Sox!

Link Pretty interesting read. I'm hoping that we can be a Boston-lite, with a better bottom three, but a worse top two. We should be in the upper tier of starting rotations, though. Hopefully El Duque can stay reasonably healthy. It's also good to see (knock on wood) that we've been in just about every game we've played. Other than the game in which Vizcaino had to take one for the team, we've been in every game.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) I just looked it up... Ledezma/Garland Maroth, that's it. Ledezma. Hmm, sometimes he gives us fits, other times it's vice versa. Hopefully we can finish the series tomorrow. Lopez might start tomorrow.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 1, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) He's been bad, no doubt. And I think he'll play again tomorrow, they have too many guys banged up still. Is Bonderman pitching tomorrow? Or .... ack, can't think of his name -- the twenty game loser? f***, what the hell is his name?

Kudos to the top of the order. Awesome job by Podsednik and Iguchi. Podsednik's average is falling, but he's putting in some real nice AB's, and drawing walks. And Iguchi -- just keep finding the holes. Also kudos to the pitching, El Duque (though I didn't like him pitching the seventh, which is besides the point), Politte, Marte, and Hermy. Hmm, who else? Harris had a nice game. Rowand isn't quite there yet, but you could see he's almost there. He missed a double down the third-base line by a couple feet, and he missed an opposite field homer by about ten feet. He's just about where he needs to be. I'll be there tomorrow. Hopefully Jon keeps up the stellar pitching.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Can we have the clutch Timo arguement again? After going 1-for-4, Timo is now batting .176 with an OBP around .220-.230 (MLB hasn't updated their stats quite yet). If Kenny and Ozzie are true to there words about worrying about things like performance rather than what the guy is making, Timo will be making his $1 million bucks alongside Ben Davis at Charlotte. It's really the way it should be...
