  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) I did like Plesac's call - "exit 1a to home run city!" I thought he said "Exit 1a to the cell"
  2. Not sure if anyone has seen this but.... Andy Gonzalez is starting at first base for the Indians lol
  3. This is the definition of a blown save: A blown save (abbreviated BS or B) is charged to a pitcher who enters a game in a situation which permits him to earn a save (a 'save situation'), but who instead allows the tying run to score. Note that if the tying run was scored by a runner who was already on base when the new pitcher entered the game, that new pitcher will be charged with a blown save even though the run (and earned run) will not be charged to the new pitcher, but rather to the pitcher who allowed that runner to reach base. If that same pitcher also allows the go-ahead run to reach base and score, and if his team does not come back to tie or gain a lead in the game, said pitcher will be charged with both the loss (as in any other similar situation) and a 'blown save.' The blown save is not an officially recognized statistic, but many sources keep track of them. Blown saves have been tracked since 1988. Once a pitcher blows a save, he is no longer eligible to earn a save in that game (since the lead that he was trying to "save" has disappeared), although he can earn a win if his team regains the lead. For this reason, most closers' records include a few wins. Closers make the majority of their appearances with their team ahead, so a loss usually includes a blown save. --So therefore Blown Save to Nathan, and Loss to Guerrier

  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) I'm ready to go on a full fledged assault on the media in regards to the "Sox" debate. I know Yas has mentioned it before, and I've mentioned it several times, but honestly, truthfully, and even brutally, name me the only team that mentions only "Sox" on their uniform. In the same regard, name me the only "Sox" team that mentions the color on their uniform; in the same regard, name me the other "Sox" team and let me know when and how they mention their color ever on their jerseys. It's absolute f***ing bulls*** that the Red Sox are the "Sox" when, in fact, they have "Red Sox" on their uniform, and the White Sox rarely, if ever, have "White Sox" on their uniform, and roughly 99% of the time have JUST "SOX" on their uniform and their hat. Apparently the east coast bias is stupid and bulls*** and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and (adjective) and whatever the f*** else. I hope the Sox win it again this year and the next year and hopefully Fenway is blown to bits and the Red Sox become the Boston ESPN's so then there is only one Sox. Extreme? Sure, I'm drunk. It seems reasonable enough though. your easily my favorite poster!!
  12. QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:50 AM) Which has been described as a result of relying on aging vets, who tend to break down some toward the end of the year; Konerko, Thome, Contreras, AJ, Cabrera, Dye, etc. Dye was a monster 2nd half last year, and the Count was a montster 2nd half 05'
  13. i think we will be in first tonight... all hail Miguel Batista
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) I guess to be possitive we went 4-6 on a tough road trip. We all wanted 6-4. So thats only a 2 game difference. We can make that up easily on this homestand where the Sox are a 3rd best in the AL at 35-16. 2 of 3 vs Detroit, 2 of 4 vs Boston and 3 of 3 vs KC shouldn't be out of the question! 7 out of 10 would be SUPER! If our starters can go 7 strong consistantly on this homestand we will be in great shape! BTW this is my 2005 post... i love that number! For sure! Also i looked at the pitching matchups and there is no reason we cant take 3 of 4 vs Boston. They are vulnerable on the road as well. We just have to hope the starters can pitch better, and not put as much pressure on the bullpen. I know the bullpen has been bad, but they have also been throwing more innings as of late because of the inconsistency of the starters. I seriously think if we play well 7 or 8 out of 10 is possible. We should mash this homestand. Starting with Detoilet's crappy rotation.
  15. QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) The twins will be bad on the road..period, even in seattle. That team is the benefactor of a hard turf surface, weird defensive backdrop, and uncomfortable hitting backdrop for opposing hitters. Their defense plays so far back in the dome b/c every hit base hit is a rocket off the turf so they cut down what are sure to be extra base hits, they bunt and sacrifice a lot and then get turn ground outs and singles into extra base hits at home b/c they knock the ball intentionally hard on the turf, and every twins pitcher has horrid road ERA's and stellar Home ERA's b/c other hitters aren't used to the strange backdrop at the dome. If you remove all that the twins are an OK team with some talent in the middle of the lineup and back end of the bullpen but thats about it. If they play a majority of their games on the road they will .500 at best, but are more like .400 or even .350 road team. In July they went to boston and got swept, they went to yankee stadium and got swept, they went to Cleveland and lost 2 out of 3. They play well at their weird dome and play bad on the road, thats the twins and its no secret. Its up to the sox to now take advantage of being at home. I think most of us would agree the sox hit a ton of balls at Det, KC, and Minn that looked like for sure extra base hits and HR's at home, but were rather easy outs in those road parks. This team needs to pitch better for sure, but you will see the sox offense be a whole lot more productive at home, thats the kind of team they have (they suck in those large outfield parks). I like it!!
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) One the bright side the Sox improved their draft position today. Negative doesnt start to describe you. It almost feels like you want the sox to lose so you can b**** at something
  17. im saying we go 13-6...lets be positive. Everyone has a bad stretch especially with our 5th starter, 3rd basemen, and set up guy out at the same time
