  1. The Marlins did the same thing, oh so did the Angels two years ago...they didnt stay in the thick of things very long. The Sox back in 2000, they fell out of first fast...

...it is easy to say none will be in first very long, but every year one team tends to find a way. The Reds have been playing well, beaten up on the Cubs some. Look at the Orioles. How about the Devil Rays who are doing okay.

Marlins and Angels won the Wild Card respectively. They did not finish in 1st. Reds, and D-Rays are doing well right now.. So what? They donot have the pitching to compete for first in their divisions (Cubs, Astros, RedSox, Yankees) At least The Marlins and Angels pitching staff was very solid. It wasn't great, but they got the job done, plus with a decent bullpen.

  2. Just curious as to why you would move Thomas back to the 3rd spot in the lineup.  Maggs has really done nothing to lose his spot in the order.

Do not tell me it is Thomas's OBP.  Part of the reason Thomas moved was due to his OBP and Maggs constantly GIDPing after a Thomas walk.

Wite, you are absolutely right. What the hell am I thinking? I must be tired.. I'll edit that right now. ;) I love Maggs at 3rd and Frank 4th.

  3. I agree with you, they won't last.  But still, this is a wonderful start for this team, they've played NO ONE but AL West teams, and IMO that's still a pretty tough division.

They won't. The Royals had an amazing start last season, but only finished in 3rd. I don't see the Tigers, Brewers, or the Rangers in 1st very long.

  5. He has a s***ty season with 2 or 3 good games and gets promoted. Well, W-S has no hitting and this lets Valido and Gray play more. So I'm all for it, even if it's not deserving.

Excately. Gonzo wasn't even hitting in Kinny, has a couple games where he went 2-3 then gets promoted.. I love this because of Gray finally getting his chance and Valido playing more but unless he tears it up in his promotion like Reed (which I don't think will happen) he will really struggle in Winston.

  6. I've been reading the Sun Times on line for about 5 years and they constatly make mistakes.  Spring Training of '03 they kept calling Rauch a left hander. I've seen them write that the DH has made plays in the field, etc. I e-mailed them once and asked if they actually attend the games. No response of course. :headshake

Let me be the first to Welcome you to Soxtalk!! :headbang :cheers :cheers :)

  7. 1952 — Hoyt Wilhelm of the Giants won his first major-league game (in relief), but more dramatically, hit a home run at the Polo Grounds in his first major-league at-bat. Although he pitched in 1,070 games in the majors, he never hit another homer.

He had a good major league career. It's a shame he couldn't hit another one out.
