QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) Yeah, you'd swear she had never met a community organizer in her life (maybe she hasn't, being from Alaska). there wasnt much community to organize. you stand n the corner and yell really loud. JUST JOKING! I'm actually moving to a small rural iowa town next year. I prefer it.

Someone on CNN just said they talked to a Democratic Pollster, so take this with a grain of salt, that said he think she might have come off as a little too harsh in her debut.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) I have to ask this...are community organizers usually associated with black neighborhoods? This is the first thing that my brother and I thought of, and after viewing Roland Martin's comments tonight, I have a feeling this is going to become a bigger issue. I dont have a ton of experience, but i think "community organizer" is a rather broad umbrella. In my town of Schaumburg you might organize a community clean up day but on the southside it might involve getting kids to school.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) A letter from someone who has known Sarah Palin since 1992 I doubt the authenticity of this. I'll withhold judgment until it's proven legit.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) They are VERY important but I don't think community organizing does much to get you ready to be president. I didn't really like her mocking community organizers to be honest, but I think her point was that doesn't do anything to qualify you to be president, and I think that point is valid. it played right into the "GOP is out of touch" line. Ye,s you can say they dont have executive power. but dont brush them off as just people who dont do much and try to be self important.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) The guy on msnbc just said that people are saying that this might not play well with the middle, because she may have come off a little too sarcastic. It really looked like he wanted to say b****y. I almost said it, but stopped myself.

Roland Martin on CNN is RIPPING into Palin for mocking community organizers. He said his parents were community organizers and CLEARLY Palin and the GOP have no clue to their importance. He went hard at her and he seemed pissed.

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) That reminds me... has he always been that... ummm... pricky? He is one bitter betty that's for sure. oh yea.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) No I am dead serious. People who are gifted writers often time aren't great at delivering speeches for some reason, or that's what I've seen in college. I know it's true for me personally. ah ok. just checkin. lol I feel the need to cover my rear the last few days. lol And to be fair, maybe if I were in her position i'd have pooped my pants. I just feel i'd have been ok.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Kinda funny watching certain members of the media self-select when getting indignant at the phrase 'left leaning media'. The guy from TIME was especially funny. he took it as if she called him out by name. Well, if the shoe fits.... Anderson Cooper just made some sarcastic comment about not being a part of the elitist media or something to that effect.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) I think people are overestimating what it takes to stand up in front of a large group of strangers and make a speech. Memorizing a speech is one thing, being able to stand up and deliver the content fluidly is another. I have spent a lot of my career speaking at conferences, and in front of large amounts of people. There is a difference when you have a small room of a hundred, and another when you are on a stage with a wireless headset speaking to a large auditorium being video broadcast. that's a far enough assessment. I just know personally, I feel very comfortable speaking when it's written and I dont have to ad lib.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) We need people like that. Us writers can't deliever a speech AT ALL. was that sarcastic or not? I hope my comments didnt come off as ripping into speech writers at all.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) Don't know if anyone has noted this yet, but supposedly the RNC had a Palin introduction video that wound up getting cut because 9/11 ran a little too long. yea. he just soaked up his last gasp of political importance.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:32 PM) Yeah that was a pretty cliche response. He mailed that one in. based on what I have seen in the past week, most of these press releases are pre-written then released. The harder push back comes the next day.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) That was very lame. not god. but there's a lot to rip apart in there that as flat out wrong or misleading. Both in regards to Obama and in regards to Palin's past.
-
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) The part where you give it up for your high school sweetie Todd would be a little awkward.

Not what i had hped, but give them a few hours: Says spokesman Bill Burton: The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years. If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change.
-
QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) I imagine anyone holed up in a hotel room for 3 days practicing would be able to read pretty darn good also. I've always thought I would be a great public speaker as long as someone else writes the speech for me. I'm a bad writer, but a good "down to earth" speaker. Yea, i could have given her speech.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Even if you don't agree with a word of what she said, it was a very well executed speech. yes. Like I said, solid, but not a game changer.
-
QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) And while Biden did his share of attacking he was extremely respectful of McCain the entire time. I agree. i think there is a difference between saying he wont keep you safe and "They're the ones whose names appear on laws and landmark reforms, not just on buttons and banners, or on self-designed presidential seals". that's just snarky.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) lol it's about time smarmy re-enters our vocab. crap, I need to get a dictionary. lol
-
I set the over / under at 10 minutes until a point by point rebuttal by the Obama campaign. Last week McCain was slow and lame in his response to Obama. Obama will hit her back hard on this.
-
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:11 PM) There were some great lines. I also liked the one about change for career or a career of change (good soundbite), but there were way too many bad jokes / dumb shots at Obama. Liek i said, she comes off as snarky in her national debut.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I didn't say it was over the top, but I'm taking the general tenseness of the thread into account and trying to keep the peace. That just invites a fight. and I agree.
-
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) That line about Obama having written two memoirs but no significant bits of legislation is one that ought to be used and re-used in every speech. What a great job Palin did. except it's blatantly false.
