QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) few things are more annoying to me than the wave.... crede starting this inning off like OC did in the 6th the wave is fine when we're winning because that gets me all giddy. if we're losing i'll pop a cap in your ass. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 21, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) see tonight. eating crow.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Note what I actually said. I said nothing of the offense "clicking" as a whole, or that AJ or CQ won't come back to earth. What I pointed out was that this offense is already far better than last year's. And further, look at the lineup, and see how many players are above, at, or below their career norms. There are far more below than above. Only 1 is really above - AJ - and he has hit almost that well at times in his career, when he's used this hitting approach. And yet, you've got Thome, Konerko, O-Cab, Uribe, and Swisher all below. Plus Ramirez as a rookie doing badly so far, will likely adjust. So to me, on balance, there is more postive room than negative room there. That's why I think the idea that this team is like 2007 waiting to happen doesn't really make any sense. see tonight.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) No, the offensive woes are not the same. The batting average is similar - that's true. That .247 average is good for 26th in baseball this year, but the OBP is .332, which is 12th in MLB. In 2007, the average was .246 (very similar), but the OBP was .318, LAST in baseball. Also, this year's team is scoring 4.6 runs per game (14th in MLB), whereas in 2007, they only scored 4.27 runs per game (again, LAST in baseball). And my fave... The 2007 team hit .243 w/RISP, dead last in baseball. This year's team is hitting .284, good for 6th in MLB. This offense is already significantly better than last year, and that's despite the fact that Swisher, Konerko, Thome and O-Cab are all playing far below their career averages. They won't all stay that low. Nothing like the same offense. why wont they stay that low? we constantly keep hearing "when this offense starts clicking" "when they come around" blah blah blah. It didnt happen at all last year and we're hearing the same things this year. AJ will level off, CQ will definitely level off. And when they do, if those 4 you mentioned haven't turned it on we're gonna be in trouble. and with Kong's hand and Thome's age... i dont see that happening with all 4. Swish may come around and Cab i think will, but... i dont know, i'm not that sure about our offense turning it on.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) This team may indeed tank, who knows. But its nothing like the 2007 squad. The starting offense is different in 5 of the 9 positions, the starting pitching is different in 1.5 of 5, the bullpen is vastly different. Its just not the same club. but yet the offensive woes are the same. what is the one constant? i'm not gonna beat a dead horse but we all know it.

i love piazza... i'm gonna miss that guy. and it's strange now that i'm getting to the point where pretty much all the guys i grew up with are either retired or just about to (Frank)

Would you throw out the First Pitch at Wrigley?

QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ May 18, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) What is the sense of having rivalries if the first time you get offered a "cool opportunity" by the other team, you decide to take it and then justify it by saying that you still are rooting for your team. I guess I am an all or nothing guy. If I am with my team, I can not be tempted by a cool life experience and then feel like I can come back to my team. It's like having an affair. Although, given the divorce rate in this country, probably not a good analogy. because we're NOT rooting for that team... and that's what it's all about. And it's not a 'cool opportunity' offered by the team - it's part of your JOB. here's an example: i'm an actor, imagine for a second i become famous. the cubs call my agent and sign me up to sing the national anthem or throw out a pitch - whatever. I'm supposed to go to my agent and tell him to refuse the offer just because I'm a sox fan? (granted with my outspoken sox-love i doubt they'd come knocking) but even better, say i'm not YET famous but working my way up. They ask me to sing the anthem. great chance for more exposure but just because i'm a sox fan i'm supposed to give up that great opportunity to be seen/heard by 40,000 people? Not on your life. not the same as a guy in a bear suit... but come on, you'd risk your job because of your fan-hood? i'm just saying that being a die hard sox fan doesn't mean that you should screw yourself over in a situation like this. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) It was in the 8th, so he would get a save if he finishes this. i realized that after i posted. oops.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 18, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) Masset's gonna close? not a save situation.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 18, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) i dont know why but i feel like our offense may wake up a bit today. no reasoning at all for that premonition, but it led me to sit cain on my fantasy team so... lets make sure it happens or i'm finna be pissed. heh heh. yeah.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 18, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) He seems to be missing over the plate, same as Danks. Unfortunately the Sox haven't seen him before so... i think that's the huge problem we have. we are the exact opposite of patient at the plate. we cant work a count for s***. i really feel greg walker needs to go and soon.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) I meandered into the chat world. I don't know how I feels about it. not a big fan - rarely do they talk about baseball.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) the one where danks already has 3 walks and a wild pitch, you? the one where the umps strike zone is so tiny that danks has no clue where to throw the ball. and the one where our hitters arent patient and taking advantage of the small zone.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) danks @ 58 pitches through 3, efficient. he was definitely getting squeeze on that outside corner but if you're watching the game on TV, a lot of those balls weren't even close to the plate. not.even.close. ... what game are you watching?
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) yeah let's keep walking the worst offense in baseball (besides us) not his fault...
-
QUOTE (G&T @ May 18, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Danks doesn't know where the zone is at this point. And neither do I. Hey, a strike! exactly... hard to blame him...
-
tries to go down and he misses... not cool ump, not cool.
