  1. Rip isnt athletic enough to play defense against Philly and was part of the reason the Bulls were getting beat inside. It seems this game Thibs is just saying screw offense and putting out their best defense.
  2. Brewer is no good on offense, but he has been good on defense. At least some of these guys have energy
  3. Collins may have made a slight mistake with that foul, gave the Bulls a free chance to sub some offense.
  4. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/north-c...-011158194.html Denying people equal rights is one of those times where Im in favor of the big govt stepping in and putting people in their place. Its shameful that a so called civilized society does this.
  5. I hate how Thibs handles Taj,. Its a crime he didnt play in the 1st quarter.
  6. Jenks, http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/pro-lif...-232932573.html They explained the policy. Its in case the baby is born before the visit and they still want to go, otherwise theyd have to refuse access. The more hypocritical position is that if you kill an unborn fetus you can be charged with murder.
  7. Sometimes I hate my optimistic refusing to accept defeat side, as the game gets closer part of me keeps believing that some how the Bulls are going to win tonight.
  8. Life is easier when you believe that there is something more. One day in the future people will look back at some of my beliefs and wonder how could someone so intelligent be so wrong, its just like how did Aristotle think that the planets revolved around Earth. We are limited by the time and science we have available to us. I truly doubt that the Jews who wrote the Old Testament 5000-7000 years ago, would believe the same things if they lived in today's society. They wouldnt draw the conclusion that eating dairy and meat causes sickness, they probably would allow people to eat shellfish. And that is not even getting into the New Testament completely jumping the shark and changing everything to rectify the fact that the Jews were still under Roman control.
  9. Old Testament? Some of it may have happened, but likely most of it is not real. New Testament, none of it is real, none of it happened.
  10. Well no one is 100% sure how the data works. There are a ton of articles on it, but no article I ever have read has Wisconsin not on the "break even list". Here is Forbes in 2011: http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/20...ports-revenues/ Notice how every Big 10 team had at least 5mil in football profit alone, with PSU taking in 50mil. Furthermore: While SEC football may be generating a larger profit, the athletic departments as a whole in the Big Ten are averaging larger profits than SEC schools. The average athletic department in the Big Ten sees a $10,704,551 profit, while the average in the SEC is $8,157,298. That is basically saying both SEC/Big are profitable by conference. Here it is in a spreadsheet: http://www.kristidosh.com/wp-content/uploa...ancial-Data.pdf http://www.kristidosh.com/wp-content/uploa...ancial-Data.pdf As you can see only 2 schools in the Big 10 broke even, the rest made money. Id have to see what figures the first person used, but they seemingly cant be right as Big + SEC is more than 22 schools, and I guarantee almost every Pac-10 team makes money after their new tv deal.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Do you guys live your lives wildly then? Why not just go crazy if this all means nothing? If you are going to just be done when you die and not cognizant of anything in heaven, then why not be reckless pursuers of debauchery? Depends on who you judge me against, but I am a pretty reckless pursuer of debauchery in the vein of Voltaire (once a philosopher, twice a pervert.) The reason I dont go out and just take advantage of everyone and do whatever I want, is because of worldly consequences. If I was to do something terrible, I would have to face my parents and other people I care about. I also would have to deal with my name being associated with those crimes. I have talent, I try and use my talent to make the world a better place for other people. Not because of heaven or hell or any worry, but because I am happier helping people than hurting people. If there is a god, and that is not enough, if he is going to get pissed off about whether I followed the "right" religion, or whether I followed stupid rules that have no impact on other people, then what type of a nonsensical god is that? I mean for god to exist, it must be both omnipotent and omniscient, therefore if god is omniscient, nothing I can do is not in gods plan as god already knows what I am going to do. Therefore I never have choice and nothing really matters anyway, because god already knew it was going to happen. It just is a free pass for everyone to do whatever they want without consequence, I just cant believe that is true.
  12. That article is misleading and a year old. The reason why athletic departments arent self-sustaining is because they have to pay for non-revenue sports. Mens football and basketball basically pays for every single sport the University has. It doesnt cost the students a dime and a school being good at basketball/football increases the visibility of the school and generally causes the degrees to be more valuable. Here is a new article: http://businessofcollegesports.com/2012/03...tments-big-ten/ As you can see, not 1 Big 10 school loses money on its entire athletic department.
  13. Nader had an impact in 2000, only getting 2.74% of the vote and being only on 43 ballots + DC. If Nader had not been on Florida ballot or NH ballot, Gore may have won. If a 3rd party candidate can get 1-2% it can have drastic implications, thats not counting a race like Bush v. Clinton where Perot got 18.9% and not 1 electoral vote. I was just wondering if people thought Johnson could grab 1-2%.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) The rules and requirements are collectively bargained with the NBAPA. And hilariously there is a conflict of interest when it comes to the current players representing future players. So I can bar entry into my profession for a few years and protect my job, sign me up! Lawyers do this too, if there are to many lawyers, increase the rate applicants who fail the bar, that way we make sure we keep our jobs.
  15. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/gary-jo...-161242264.html If he is on the ballot, who do you think Johnson hurts more, Obama or Romney?
  16. Just cause a guy played 4 years in college doesnt mean he wont rot on the bench under the wrong coach. There are a lot of factors that come into play, a big part is coaching and where these players are learning. Jordan played for Dean Smith, I dont know if many ultra talented players would play for a coach like him anymore. There was an old saying, the only person who could keep Jordan from scoring 20 points was Dean Smith. Its one of the reasons Barkley said that more players should go to Wisconsin to learn under Bo Ryan, as he said, a deer can run and jump, but it cant play basketball.
  17. Balta, I dont think about sand as much as you (haha), but I do think about how many circumstances had to happen for me to exist. That a change in a single event at any point in the last billion years could have prevented my existence. Y2hh, The prime mover is an interesting concept, obviously the fact that from something came nothing does lend to the idea that there had to be something that "created" the Universe. That being said, our Universe could be nothing more than a grain of sand in a fish tank in a much larger Universe. I dont really have a good answer for how everything must have started, I just am not convinced that there is an actual god that cares about the comings and goings of the inhabitants of Earth.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) If there was no God, what is the point of all this? Even being here? Are we just going to die and bam, that's that, thanks for playing 60-100 years? Yep pretty much. In the grand scheme of things my existence will be as insignificant as a grain of sand on the beach.
  19. SS2K, I wondered who was going to catch on to me framing abortion like gun rights. Ive always said that if people actually support personal freedom, I will gladly support states rights with regards to gun ownership. But if they are going to fight me on every other personal freedom, then well Im going to try and take away their toy, because in the words of philosopher Snoop Doggy Dogg if I cant smoke none, she cant either. Mr. Genius, That is the rate of death due to abortions in the US. With modern technology and legalized abortion there is basically very little death risk due to an abortion. The reason being is that most of the time it is being conducted at a medical facility.
  20. There are a lot of facts, most of them support legalized abortion. http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_IAW.html Highly restrictive abortion laws are not associated with lower abortion rates. For example, the abortion rate is 29 per 1,000 women of childbearing age in Africa and 32 per 1,000 in Latin America—regions in which abortion is illegal under most circumstances in the majority of countries. The rate is 12 per 1,000 in Western Europe, where abortion is generally permitted on broad grounds. [1] • In the United States, legal induced abortion results in 0.6 deaths per 100,000 procedures. And that should be compared with the risk of dying from child birth in the US: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/1...mortality-rates The US ranks 41st in the WHO's league table of maternal mortality, with a risk of women dying in childbirth at one in 4,800. Having child: 1 in 4,800 Abortion- 1 in 200,000 From those stats you are approximately 50x more likely to die carrying a child than having an abortion in the US. (At least if these stats arent lie and I just took the first few I found.)
  21. I was going to put this in the Obama thread and say at least there is a market for dead babies, but I thought that joke wouldnt go over well. So Im bringing it here. And yah placenta eating is strange.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 7, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) I don't see why we need to "increase" the availability of the morning after pill. If it's available, as it is now, then that's all that is required. In order to get the pill you need to visit a doctor anyway right? So there doesn't need to be a requirement for a consultation. I think if we are going to put abortions on a fast track, morning after should be available over the counter. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 7, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) It's more of a philosophical question than a scientific one imo. Well its technically both. The term "alive" can have both philosophical and scientific definitions. When speaking about abortions it is both philosophical and scientific. My philosophy though is to take a scientific rationale approach to the issue. Thus, there could be a day when abortions are unnecessary as science could create a technology to remove the unborn fetus, put it in a test tube and protect the life. That is why I say some of it depends on science.
  23. Okay so you merely disagree at the time frame and as Ive said, Im willing to leave that up to science. If we are going to shrink the time frame, then we also need to increase availability of morning after, as well as remove any "24 hour waiting" or similar periods, because we have to ensure a mother has access to an abortion within 4-5 weeks. Would you consider a law that made every pregnant mother have to get a consultation on abortion, and be given an appointment for one if they desire, within the first week of pregnancy?
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 7, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) This makes no sense to me. How can cells that make up a person "imitate life?" We're not talking about cells in a petri dish here. We're talking about a developing human being, one that cannot survive without the mother but nonetheless operates in every way just like a human with human parts - blood, electric impulses, etc. Then what is your position, they are alive immediately at conception and therefore deserving of protection? Ive taken the time to try and outline my position, I get that you disagree with it, but instead of rehashing the same argument, why not present me with your position and why its better than mine.
