QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) The normal revenues double over the first two years after the average IPO since 1996. That changes those numbers a lot. Even with that, these new IPO's will be vastly overvalued. These are INSANE multiples.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) P/E's can be higher for short periods of time, but they usually and quickly normalize, as shown in that chart, but even so...in comparison to those companies listed, it would take LinkedIn and Facebook, combined, about 5 years to make what Apple makes in a single quarter (and I'm talking profit, not revenue). Even with that said, the P/E ratios in that chart, even at their HIGH's were half of Facebooks current, and about 1/6th what LinkedIn is currently at. As I said, these new .com's are vastly overvalued.

All of these recent IPO's are a sure sign of .COM 2.0's arrival. LinkedIn: Current Price: 97.70 (Giving them a P/E Ratio of a massive 603.76) Groupon: Current Price: 12.05 (No P/E ratio, as they make no money, and are currently losing .33 cents per share) Facebook: Current Price: 32.20 (Giving them a P/E Ratio of 103.06) Q: What is P/E ratio? A: A valuation ratio of a company's current share price compared to its per-share earnings. In short: The P/E is sometimes referred to as the "multiple", because it shows how much investors are willing to pay per dollar of earnings. If a company were currently trading at a multiple (P/E) of 20, the interpretation is that an investor is willing to pay $20 for $1 of current earnings. A "fair" P/E ratio is usually in the 10-20 range (give or take). Even companies like Apple, Microsoft, IBM, Exxon and Google trade in that range. If Apple was trading at the P/E ratio of Facebook, it would be trading at $4,227 per share. If Apple was trading at the P/E ratio of LinkedIn, it would be trading at $24,766 per share. That is how insanely overvalued those companies are.

I have to say I like Hawk, I like that he's biased, I like that he's a homer...and I like that he has his catch phrases, no matter how old they get. I like the fact that he announces for US, not the other team, and I like the fact that he's almost universally hated by other teams fans because of that. He may even be bad at times...or go into "quiet Hawk" mode when the Sox are getting thrashed. But he's OUR homer...and I like it that way. It's like having a die hard fan announcing your games, versus a professional that doesn't care about anything but setting up their future careers, announcing for other teams, etc.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) i dunno, those guys in the video don't look much more jacked than Tony. But yes, I'll grant you it's plausible. haha Yes they do. They look 2 times his size. These guys are in hulk shape...I bet they couldn't even reach over and touch their own shoulderblades.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) i'm not sure anyone suggested they did it accidentally. how did they do it if not using dumbbells and barbells, oh wise sage of the weight room? PEDs.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) Yup, don't let the wireless companies tell you what you have to get. I have 200 MB and it's more than enough. I personally use more than 200mb, and that's while spending 99% of my time on WiFi. I easily use a few hundred megs a day on WiFi alone, and on cellular I use another 600-800 per month.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 15, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) This means I wouldn't have to get a data plan? That's the only reason I'm not allowed to get a smart phone, the requirement of a data plan. You are only required to get a data plan if you get a subsidized phone...otherwise you don't have to tell them what kind of phone it is...just stick your already activated sim in it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 15, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) Downward dog Good idea...this is a P90X thing, right? I'll have to just use that.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 01:09 PM) You look great man! The lean, shredded thing is primarily diet more than anything - but you know that. as for pics, yeah I'm a huge believer in taking before and after pics because you can REALLY chart your progress. when you look in the mirror every day, you don't notice the small changes as they happen so you end up thinking "i don't look any different" even though you actually DO look DRAMATICALLY different. Yea, I wish I had your dedication about diet right now, but like I said, I want to do this without having to give up things like ice cream -- and I know that's impossible. I will fight the odds!

Speaking of workout advice, does anyone know of any good and easy to perform calf stretching stretches? My left calf is a lot tighter than my right, and it's kind of always been that way, wondering if anyone knew a safe way to stretch that out aside from the usual lean forward against a wall stretch... :/

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) So how long do you work out on those 3-4 days then? 4 days a week with a P90X type workout is going to be very beneficial to people even with some more resistance built in. Flexibility and stamina is always good to inject into your routine. Ok, here is my overall "goal". Keep in mind that I was "laid off" from working out for well over a year while healing from a medical condition. So during that time, I put on about 10 lbs of fat. Ideally, I weight about 154lbs or so...right now I'm at about 162. I'm 5'7". My goal is to regain the muscle mass I lost and slowly shed that excess fat, which will happen in time. So in all, I've been back to working out for the last 1.5 months or so. I did miss a week during a trip to Vegas during that time, too. What I try to do, so long as nothing prevents me from doing it, such as family or my kid, is go to the gym on the 3 days I actually go into the office. Since my work has a gym on campus, I use that, it's 5$ a week. So on those 3 days, I weight train. The other two days I work from home, and I have a treadmill in my house, so I run 1.5 to 2 miles on those 2 days, or on one of the weekend days if possible. If I feel extra ambitious, I'll do Plyo or Cardio X, instead of running. Ideally I'd like to do this 2 times, I often find myself only doing it once for one reason or another. Ideally, I'd be working out 5 days a week, but something usually comes up which prevents that, and I end up missing a day at the gym because work is extra busy, or a day at home for various family reasons...so in all, I'd say I average out at 3 or 4 days a week, but lately it's only been 3. I do plan on restarting the cardio portion of my workouts this week...so that will bring me back up to 4 or 5. My current progress: (sorry the image is somewhat fuzzy, but trying to take a pic of yourself in the gym is a douche move, even though I'm trying to document my progress), if I could drop some of that extra body fat, I'd be in great shape again...I wish I had taken a photo similar to this when I first started again, but until Reddy posted his, I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess it's a good idea so you can compare progress. So as you can see, while a workout style like mine won't get you as lean as something like P90X, it can still tone you somewhat...but obviously you wouldn't get results like Reddy posted with bodyfat percentages in the single digits.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 15, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) And I'm not sure the lawmakers will ever be able to stay ahead of the technology to effectively prohibit people from pirating. Honestly, it comes down to making an ethical and moral choice, and I'm not going to judge people for those choices. I just hope it doesn't keep good products from hitting the market. It doesn't. As you see, these products keep hitting the market despite the rampant piracy. It's simple. The people that pirate your wares weren't going to pay you for them anyway. Corporations and businesses don't want to believe that...they really want to believe that if the person(s) hadn't stolen [it] they would have paid full price, instead...but that's not reality. The offset is that while there are people that would have bought it but got a pirated copy from a friend...there are just as many people that pirate things, like say, The Avengers, but then go see it 5 times anyway...and then buy the Bluray, too. Those in the middle...the big pirates...you weren't getting a dime from them either way...so you need not pretend they were potential customers...because they weren't. Good products sell regardless of pirates. Always have.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) suggesting that P90X is like drinking beer out of a straw riled me up. but I agree with both you and shack to each his own, and i've said that multiple times. So you admit you drink beer out of a straw?

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) EDIT: PS, Tony is a 54 year old man beating the panties off mid-20s guys. Don't gimme that "I'm 40 so it doesn't matter anymore" It's also his livelihood...so seriously, get some perspective. If I was able to dedicate that much time to working out, because it was...you know...my JOB to work out...I'd be in just as good shape as him. That's not hard. It's hard when you have a regular 8+ hour a day job, a commute from time to time, a child that wants to play with you every waking moment, things to do around the house because you own the house and have to upkeep it...to everyday life... Horton has a pretty big advantage in that his 9-5 is working out. Big f***ing deal. Of course he's in shape. He's paid handsomely to be.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) i am absolutely the furthest thing from embarrassed about doing P90X, and I'm not sure why anyone would be to tell you the truth. i watched a video last night where Tony Horton did 7 pullups with an 85lb dumbbell between his feet. He did 15 pushups while on two stability balls. Asked one of the younger guys to try it, couldn't even do ONE. Try asking any gym-rat to do that, and I bet they couldn't either. I don't give a s*** if something looks silly - if it's gonna make me stronger, healthier and more athletic, I'll do it. as for your analogy - P90X is like chugging that beer while in Half-Moon (yoga pose) and doing dumbbell curls with your empty hand. Horton doesn't just do P90X to look like he does, either...he's also a weight trainer...but he's interested in selling P90X right now, so he's not going to say that. He actually shills a few other workout devices, too...just not as openly as P90X at the moment. Also, what he does is typical salesmanship maneuvers...there are moves certain people can perform really well that others cannot, especially if they haven't trained to do that move. For example, I was able to do the same, only with tricep dips holding large weight...and I was able to launch myself off the bar and catch myself...so imagine me doing that and saying give it a try. Fact is, a lot of people can't even do a tricep dip and launch themselves in the air without a weight, let alone adding weight to it. Does that make me Mr. Fantastic? No. It merely means I've trained to do something...all Horton does is "sell" that.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 15, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) Yeah, plus some other stuff I use from P90. Did it again this morning. I picked up the bowflex a few years ago off of Craigslist for about $300. Wow, that's a great price. Overall how do you feel about that product? Does it take up a ton of room? I also still use moves from P90X which I weave into my routines from time to time. When I find something I feel works and works well, I use it...I don't care where I got the idea from...and there is no doubt P90X has some great ideas mixed in there. And you are right, if you want to learn, and actually pay attention to how P90X is designed, it does build structure that you could follow...a lot of people don't really care about that and just want to be told what to do...but in any workout, there are ideas and reasons for doing what you're doing that you could take and learn from.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) I used your arm routine last week (with the bowflex) and liked it. I wish I had a bowflex in my house...that'd be great. Those are expensive. And what exact arm routine did you use? The one I posted a few weeks ago?

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 14, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) haha again i know y'all already know how i feel about p90x, but both you and jake gave gross misrepresentations - you about time, him about it being 'cardio-centric'. I spend an hour. one hour. every day. that's not a lot to ask. again, we've had this convo and you can do your thing and i'll do mine and they're both GREAT - but lets call a spade a spade when we discuss different programs and how they work. That's where you are wrong. 1 hour every day IS a lot to ask. I work out 3-4 days a week, that's it...I don't have the time or energy to do more. When I was in my 20's, I'd work out 6 days a week for up to 2 hours a day. I'm closer to 40 now than I am to 20. My goal is maintain decent shape while remembering to live without boundaries...boundaries such as, OMG I can't eat that ice cream...it's full of fat and calories! f*** that. I'm having my cake and eating it, too. For the record, while in my 20's...I'd hardly ever "cheat" and eat things that were bad for me...almost never. I'm not willing to do that anymore. We NEVER disagreed about P90X, or weight lifting, or any other work our regime working versus not working. We agree they all work, and they all have their specific benefits/downsides, etc... We disagree on one simple thing. I find home workouts like P90X embarrassing. They're cheesy and often silly to listen too...and the moves they sometimes have you do are...how shall I say...stupid looking? This is an opinion of how things look/feel...NOT how they work. Does P90X work? Absolutely yes. I liken P90X to drinking beer out of a straw. While lifting weights is more like grabbing the glass and chugging it. Both work. But let's be honest, drinking beer out of a straw always looks silly...and is embarrassing. And also for the record: I have no doubt RR and Reddy are in better physical condition than me. NO doubt. I wish I had that low of a body fat percentage...I could, but at this juncture of my life I'm unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to do it. But I have to admit, I've always favored the weight lifting/muscle size/look over the more cardio centric exercises, or exercises like P90X. Those tend to get you lean looking...and I'd love to look lean...but I want the mass to go with it...and no, without being a hulk. Just having that look! It's my goal.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 14, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) if you wanna BULK up, maybe not. If you want to be more athletic, and perform better in all areas of fitness, P90X is better than a typical weight-centric routine. I'd rather be doing yoga when I'm 80 than lookin' like the hulk right now. Some people, such as myself, just want to maintain a 'decent shape', and have a great physical look to go with it -- without having to be in 'the best, fastest, most athletic shape possible'. I don't have the time anymore. When I was single and in my 20's, I had the time...now that I'm married, a father, and the only source of income for my family, I don't have hours to dedicate to staying that lean...not to mention I'm almost 37 now. I eat ice cream almost every day. And I like beer. Oh, and I just had a banana Slurpee from 7/11...and it was good.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) Overrated... They're basically the same as any other smartphone, how is one overrated and one underrated? iPhones just cater to the non-hack crowd more than Android does. Not to mention, there is a hack crowd for iOS, too...only they call it jailbreaking, instead. Besides, at least when updates come out, you can use them without having to wait months to use an OS that's already outdated by then.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 9, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) I would have but I want the specific ROM and I don't want to be worried about buggy software. Then get an iPhone. People unwilling to root and Android may as well get an iPhone.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 8, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) Do you guys live your lives wildly then? Why not just go crazy if this all means nothing? If you are going to just be done when you die and not cognizant of anything in heaven, then why not be reckless pursuers of debauchery? To answer your question, no, I do not live wildly. Even when I was younger I always knew where to draw the line when partying, etc. I never said it means nothing. It absolutely means something. But there doesn't have to be a "heaven" at the end of journey to make the journey itself meaningful. The act of living, in and of itself, is already meaningful. After this life is over, I know my energy doesn't just "disappear", and if it makes you feel better to call the next place it goes "heaven", by all means, do so. Personally, I believe we are returned to the universe around us, not as some sort of ghost or specter, but as general energy which will again be recycled by the universe to create new life, or non-life alike. Whatever happens, I will not spend my life worrying about what "might" happen when this journey ends...there is too much to miss right here, right now, to worry about that.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 9, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) Science has been an extremely effective tool to further human knowledge. One cannot say the same for 'revelation'. Science can be a revelation.
