QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) I think by the end of the season people are going to be talking about Julius Jones as if he's a Franchise back IF he can stay healthy. He was on pace for about 1700 yards last season if he didn't get injured. Kevin Jones was having a great season last year 2 in the 2nd half especially.... One think Kevin Jones has that Julius though is a good offense around him. In Dallas they are going to be more worried about the run than the pass... and in Detroit it will be the other way around which makes it easier for Kevin Jones to run.

Idonno if you watched Faulk he doesnt look like the same back at all....last year and the year b4 he has really slowed down it seems and age has really affected his game.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) That's exactly right. I would say that he's not even in the Top 25. How I see it, in no particular order: Elite Shaun Alexander Deuce McAllister Ahman Green Ladanian Tomlinson Priest Holmes Willis McGahee Jamal Lewis Edgerrin James Solid Marshall Faulk DeShaun Foster Kevin Jones Clinton Portis Tiki Barber Julius Jones Corey Dillon Curtis Martin Rudi Johnson Somewhere in between Adequate and Solid Steven Jackson Marcel Shipp Thomas Jones Mike Pittman Warrick Dunn Michael Bennett Mewelde Moore Brian Westbrook Lamont Jordan Larry Johnson Tatum Bell Travis Henry Lee Suggs Duce Staley Jerome Bettis Domanick Davis Chris Brown Dominic Rhodes The adequate-to-solid crowd are guys that won't hurt you, but they're not exactly franchise backs. Faulk and Martin are kind of old already, and therefore, I can't call them elite at this point (although you can still make a good argument for Martin). You could make good arguments for Corey Dillon and Tiki Barber as well, but I hesitate to call them elite, although the numbers they put up last year would indicate otherwise. This year's class is obviously very promising with Brown, Benson, Williams, etc. Well I like it mostly except for some changes.. Chris Brown, Domanick Davis, Westbrook, and Steven Jackson up a level. Deshaun Foster and Marshall Faul down a level... Jackson is starting over faulk this year. Also Willis McGahee shouldnt be an the elite if julius and kevin jones arent. And some could argue putting Jordan up a level with the kind of offense Oakland is having but I dont mind where you put him. On a sidenote I agree I wouldnt really be surprised if the Redskins beat us. But a lot of people outside of Bears fans think we are a bad team and I dont really agree with that.... Im expecting at least 7 wins and if Kyle Orton isnt 2 bad i wouldnt be surprised with 10-11. Although what im really expecting is a 8-8 or 9-7 season.

Bears trade for Pro Bowl Reserve line Backer
GoodAsGould replied to Tadahito Iguchi's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I like this move we didnt lose anyone of importance and added someone to help on special teams which is very important. -
QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) I hope you're right. It might be a little bad the first couple of weeks but as these guys play together more then line should improve each week. The good thing is the first week we play a not so good Redskins team who lost an important CB and DT to their defense and lost both their starting WR's.

Thats the one good thing that will happen if the Bears have a bad season.... The end of Jerry Angelo hopefully.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) Bears or not, they found a 1st round talent in the 4th round of the draft. Can you say steal of the draft? I agree with your assessment, and if you're setting the over/under at 4, I'd take under any day of the week. Even "QB carousel" Spurrier only used 3 in his 1st year in Washington. I have to disagree with that. He's got just about everything you want in a QB. He's calm in the pocket and can throw just about any ball exactly where it needs to be and when it needs to be there. He may be a rookie, but to discount him because he was drafted in the later rounds is absurd. He was an absolute steal in the 4th round and I think he'll do well this season. Does that mean a 4000 yard 30 TD season? Probably not, but don't be suprised if he's efficient, and helps the Bears offense score a lot more points this season. You seem to be expecting a lot from Orton and just setting yourself up to be dissapointed. Has he looked good in pre-season... yes but thats against almost all the time vs the 2nd team defense and with miami it was the 3rd team defense.... Like I said as long as he keeps defenses honest and not stacking the line against the run we should be good. I have kind of high hopes but im not trying to set my expectations 2 high just to see him be a bust.
-
Im still on the A-Train bandwagon but oh well thats a lost cause . Anyways I dont think he will get many carries the first couple of weeks but my week 4-5 he should be splitting about 50/50 with Thomas Jones and I think that will improve our running game greatly since both will be fresh.

Thats awesome. Orton is named the starter and Benson finally signs what a good day to be a Bears fan. Now if Benson gets in shape we have 2 good really RB's and kind of be like a copy of Pitts offense possibly. Muhsin being the Hines Ward and than well they dont have Plaxico anymore so were even
-
I just hope people are expecting 2 much from Orton, He is not only a rookie but a late round rookie so to expect 2 much from him is just asking to be dissapointed. I just want him to keep defenses honest and not be pathetic like Hutchinson and the rest of the crew of QB's from last year.
-
Well my real point is someone was saying in another thread that Buffalo's defense was better than the Bears and as points allowed by defenses that game in the first half it was 3-0 us. Yes their defense basicly got them 9 more points but thats more of Hutchinson giving them it with that stupid pat he does on the football.
-
If we are going to dump adkins than maybe Diaz or Munoz should get a call up 2.
-
Elo is having a nice bounce back year after the disaster of last year but still ive grown to like Contreras but one thing ill say that season Loaiza had in 2003 was pure amazing and than he followed it with a great 1st month in 2004 before it went all down hill.

Idonno but they showed the 102 mph on baseball tonight b4 they showed the throw out of Ichiro at home I was switching channels between that and the game.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) Losman's in what his 1st season, he's still learning the job. Reed's about to get cut. Buffalo ain't that great on O besides "Whatcha talkin bout Willis". Reed isnt that great and wasnt what he was supposed to be but he is still a good 3rd WR and Evans and Moulds are both pretty good especially if Moulds can stay healthy. And yes Losman is having his 1st season as a starter he still is better than what we have.
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) NO WAY. We'll be good, but not that good. Idonno a lot of it depends on the offense. If they can not turn the ball over and put the opposing team in scoring distance our defense has the ability to dominate. While being on the field twice as long as our Offense in the 1st half the Bills could not make a scoring drive until the 3rd quarter and that was only a fg. And thats saying something because the Bills have a pretty decent O... good WR group of Moulds, Evans, and Reed... good RB in McGahee, decent QB in Losman.
-
idonno last season Willie walked at a pretty decent rate. He had a pretty good OBP I think even with the low avg.
-
Idonno if they should actually release Hutchinson or just demote him to 3rd string... he is still better than Krenzel or Quinn were last year.
-
QUOTE(Nokona @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) He was probably in shock. Maybe he was lol didnt he catch 2 passes from Orton on our TD drive. And as far as who I would of rather drafted since Edwards was taken b4 us id go after DJ. I knew he fell all the way to 15 but he is a great LB and with him we have one of the best LB crew in the NFL. Finally as long as Hutch isnt the starter im ok. Jeff Blake didnt look that great out there yesterday but he was rusty and he has talent. He is definitely better than Hutch but im still liking Orton. One of the biggest reasons Roethlesburger or howevr you spell it was successful was because Pitts was a big running team and if Benson gets into camp we can also be a big running team with Benson/Jones.
-
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) He only has 17 AB's. I think he is making his statement because of how Anderson has played in the minors more so than the majors so far. Because really he has nothing to prove at AAA next year.
-
Idonno he is a good fielder he just get lazies at time that was one of the pirates complaints vs him. I guess playing on the yankees and in a playoff race he might not be so lazy.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) Um...they are better on offense, defense, and special teams than last year where they won what, 5 games? Im not 2 sure on special teams... They dont really want Azumah to return kicks this year in risk of injury and RW was one hell of a punt returner.... Not 2 mention it seemed everytime their is an illegal block in the back and we get a 10 yard penalty. Now the one big upgrade is hopefully the kicker position. I still wonder whatever happened to Edinger. He was having a good season than it went down the crap hole and than last season was bad the whole time.
-
well this thread has absolutely nothing to do with the minor league games lol.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 01:34 AM) Watching the Bears game right now vs the Bills and in leiu of th Personal Attacks rule, I will just say this: I am HIGHLY displeased with the play of QB Chad Hutchinson and his frequent low-level of play. On the other hand, I am highly impressed with the Bears 1st-team defense's high-level of play. Well Hutchinson comes in and I think does actually worse than last week, he made 1 good throw the whole time and Gage dropped it. Than Orton comes in against the Bills 1st team defense and scores.... Now man im starting to think we might see him as our season opener QB.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) On the Hutch vs. Orton thing, it's a big game for Chad tonight, he really needs to perform well otherwise the "Start Orton" cries from the Bears fans are probably only going to get more vocal; Whatever happens in pre-season im pretty sure they are making Hutchinson the starter for the season. But than again if he does nothing today and throws 2 interceptions again and Kyle Orton does well. Than for our last pre-season game Orton starts and does well again. Than maybe coaches might think a little bit especially if the 1st game of the season comes along and Hutch struggles.
