  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) Breaking news: Snookie is pregnant. The dream is over for me. Once you give birth, I know longer deem you fit. In other news, the pro-life movement has packed their bags and gone home.
  4. Man, it's pretty disgusting all the calls IU gets at home. Hopefully it changes in the second half.
  5. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) I still don't understand why being a "homer" is a negative for local broadcasters. Only Chicago listens to him, he is not broadcasting for ESPN or FOX. I like having an announcer that roots for the team along with me. There are times when his one-sidedness bothers me, but its still better than having a lot of other guys out there. This times a million. I grew up on Hawk. I always thought that all local announcers rooted for their teams very openly.
  6. I didn't get a birthday thread the other day.

What happened to all the good ones? They aren't showing up for me. I particularly miss the confused black guy and the super fast lizard with the tongue.

Just read Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Great, but dragged on to too long on points and was also a little too preachy. Started Hunger Games. Already fifty percent through. Feared it would be like Twilight, and at points you think its going into that territory, only to take a complete opposite direction. Hope it stays that way.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 04:24 AM) even Crazy, Stupid Love Oh, forgot to add this. f*** this movie. Every character is completely hateable. But agreed on Gosling. He really surprised me in Ides and carried Drive too.
  11. Been watching a lot of movies lately: Shawshank Redemption (rewatch)- Still one of the greatest movies of all-time. Fight Club (rewatch)- I think I finally got bored of this movie. The Social Network (rewatch)- The more I see this, the more I realize how amazing this movie is. The Wrestler (rewatched) -Still one of my favorites Ides of March- One of the best movies of 2011. Not that says much at all. Safe House- Pretty much by the books, and a bit of a sloppy plot. Could have been a lot better. Drive- Meh, expected a lot better of this movie. Still probably better than anything I've seen nominated for Best Picture (other than Moneyball). Mystic River- Loved this movie. Definitely deserves its acclaim.
  12. I heard bmac has a huge cult following. Was kind of surprised.
  13. Rihanna collaboraing with Chris Brown again. Ugh.
  14. Is it humanly possible to be as dumb as Brandon Paul
  15. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 03:09 AM) First time in a while that I'm not actually angry with the team or Weber after a loss. Not quite sure how you guard a team like IU when the calls are like this. They have the shooters to beat a zone. What kind of defense are you supposed to play? Yeah, Illinois played almost perfect for those first 30 minutes and were still down. Not a lot they could do.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 03:03 AM) Gottta make a run here They can't. Illini are afraid to play D
  17. Refs have lost control of this one.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Top basketball schools don't lose their coaches to other places. I think Kansas is a top basketball school.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) Illinois is a top basketball school. The problem is that it's been a revolving door since Henson. Why, i'm not sure. Kruger left for the NBA. I bet he would take that move back. Self left for a dream job in the Big 12. Can't really fault him there. I'm just not sure who is out there that Illinois could get. Shaka not having any ties to the Big Ten and Chicago kind of scares me. And that's taking a flyer on a guy that had success at the mid-major level, but not at the major level. Wasn't that the big knock on Weber all this time? Shaka at least has Midwest ties. That's going to be the knock on anyone until they have success, I would assume. What BCS-level coaches should we go after? Marc Cronin, maybe, but MT doesn't get along with him apparently.
  20. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) IIRC, Shaka Smart said "no thanks" to both Mizzou and NC State last year before signing his long term deal, so I have a hard time believing that he'd see Illinois as that much better of a job. I'd be all for it if he could be convinced. Last year was a little awkward though. You recruit a coach at the Final 4. Kind of hard to recruit the man coaching his team in it. And I think it's a little less awkward for Shaka to leave VCU when he did not just bring them their best season ever by far.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I'm not asking this to be an ass, but what kind of pressure is their at Illinois that there isn't at another school? It's not like Illinois is some national powerhouse. They are a middle of the road/stepping stone type program that occassionally succeeds and makes the tournament but doesn't do it consistently. I understand that Illini fans want and expect more, but I don't really think there is pressure of the Illinois job. Illinois is pretty good historically. They don't have the elusive NC, but they have to be by far the best program without one. But I think that's mainly besides the point. I think most Illinois fans think of the basketball program as a sleeping giant. They may be right. Illinois has historically massively underachieved and still done pretty well for itself. It's basically for one reason only, and that's the talent bed it sits on. They can get scraps and still be a top 15 team with relative ease. Chicago is about tied with NYC with being the best basketball hotbed on the planet (EDIT: I looked up some numbers and it appears Chicago is actually the better one). Illinois is the only major in-state program (with apologies to DePaul and Northwestern) and talent should be coming here on a consistent basis. Problem is, it hasn't for about 20 years now, save for the last three years kind of. With the kind of resources Illinois has, yes, there is definite pressure from the fans to compete. They see the in-state talent and figure it should be done with relative ease.
