  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=nfl Steps to be a tortured fan: Please. We had tortures in '59, '83, '93, and '00 - along with collapsing in the 50s and 70s. The Cubs had about the same amount. Well - the difference is ... every time the Sox lost in the playoffs, collapsed, etc. - we always said the same thing. We didn't pitch or hit as well as the other team did against us. We NEVER made up any stupid, lame excuses every time and that's where the Cubs fans are different. Every time, it's something new. Billy goats, black cats walking by Santo, Steve Garvey in '84, some dork sitting there with a Walkman in '03 or whatever the hell it was. Whatever - sucks to be them.
  2. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Buehrle and then Peavy in the playoff opener. That's kinda what I was thinking too. Buehrle's been the guy on opening day for so long now - I say we keep it that way and also, Peavy just starts in his turn, with no emphasis on who started when. pressure on Peavy to dominate in his first start of the season, etc. Peavy seems tough as nails and likely isn't phased by anything. But, Buehrle has been the guy to kick off the season for so many years in a row - it's old hat to him by now. All I can say about our rotation is ... thank you Kenny Williams. Most sports fans (other than the Patriots, I suppose) hate their GM's. I love what Kenny Williams does to make this team compete every year. He doesn't fu*k around and doesn't care about what's popular or not. He's got the biggest balls in the game and we're lucky to have him as the GM of the Sox.
  3. Sorry if this is old news already - it's been a while since I've been here, but ... are we keeping Buerhle's opening day start streak intact, or has Peavy been designated the true # 1 ace and is he going to start instead? Doesn't matter to me, I'm just curious. Technically - we now have two aces, so that's kickass.
  4. Hate to use a cliche expression, but it's not how you start, it's how you finish. Anyone recall in 2005 in August and early September, practically the whole team, including Konerko, were playing like crap. We almost yielded the division to the Indians and everyone got hot in the last week and then we put on a pitching clinic for the playoff ages. Konerko isn't off to a great start, but I sure as hell wouldn't trade him away. We all know what he can do once he gets going.
  5. I'm not very well-versed on baseball's trade rules. Why didn't they trade him to get something for him? Are there certain times or deadlines during the season when trades can't be made? I know there's a trade deadline in the summer, but it isn't common to make trades this early. Anyone have any insight on this?
  6. Santo=Dorf - True, this isn't Sox news at all, but since Frank was a big part of us being Sox fans for a very long time, I figured I'd just post the topic. Yeah, that Gibbons dude seems to be a real piece of work. I'm not sure what his entire history of altercations is, but I do recall when he went to go pull Ted Lilly from a game a few years back, Lilly didn't like it, and punches were thrown between the two of them behind the dugout. That's the only one I know of.
  7. Yikes! I have no link for this - it was just flashed across the screen on ESPN. I guess his b1tching about getting benched did not go over well. My goodness.
  8. It normally always is the Indians, but I could have sworn we opened against the Royals in 2004.
  9. Testing sig - don't reply.
  10. Holy crap, man - that graphic is intense as all hell. I'm glad my Grateful Dead and tripping days are over. Good Lord!!!
  11. Okay - so it was the identical spelling except the first frickin' letter that threw me off. Alright, thanks for clearing up that not-so-important tidbit of information!
  12. Just curious - weren't they supposed to swap positions and Raines be bench coach and Baines be at 1st base? I could swear I've seen Raines at 1st base all year so far? Are my eyes deceiving me here? After all, only one letter is the difference in their last names. But Harold is way taller than Tim. It seems to me that Tim is the one who's been at 1st base all year.
  13. Please. This is not 1955 and Leave It To Beaver. This only tells me that Reinsdorf is out of touch and it makes him sound like an old man. This isn't your era, pal. These guys got you a World Series ring and you're gonna gripe about long hair? Ridiculous.
  14. Yes, it is WAY early in the year (duh) and I'm the last one who's gonna panic about anything, but I also am very confused with what the hell Guillen is doing with these lineups - especially the last two games. While it's early, it's still important that we get off to a solid fast start. He's putting Boone Logan in there against the Indians. if it was the Devil Rays or the Royals, fine. But no - I'm not big on his lineup cards so far at all. Game Two of the season and you sit Iguchi and Anderson? I don't care what he said about matchup concerns. Anderson has huge shoes to fill this year, has a fantastic Opening Day, and then gets benched because Guillen has "matchup concerns with Westbrook". Um, last time I checked, Westbrook was never an All-Star. No - I don't like this at all.
  15. Being that I'm not only a huge Sox fan but also a life-long die-hard Packer fan. So, I completely dig the GREEN seats and I dig that Southpaw the mascot dude is GREEN and GOLD. Word up.
