  1. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:52 AM) Let's just play Melky and Eaton out there instead. Let's try some weird 2 man OF defense. Eaton might need a cutoff man to throw to second
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:49 AM) Everything's fine. Why upgrade one of the worst defensive OFs in baseball? Maybe Avi will try a more upright stance on defense
  3. With Eaton's shoulder not being close to 100 percent in terms of throwing, Austin Jackson becomes a more important target.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) $35 million + the pick is a hefty price to me, especially for a team like the Sox that always seem to be strapped for cash. That's the exact type of deal they need to be able to afford if they have no desire to outspend the big name teams for a player.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:40 AM) Very true. I am extremely disappointed the Sox couldn't or wouldn't go to this level. I still think they have another move they will make, but if they don't, and Avi fails, they deserve all the grief they are going to get. I've said this in a few threads, but if they keep Avi and LaRoche as starters and the team tanks again, I see no reason for Hahn and Ventura to keep their jobs.
  6. Hopefully this makes Jackson pick a team soon
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 12:38 AM) I don't know if I should be happy or sad about him not coming to the Sox. Obviously he would've made the team better in the short term, but that's a pretty hefty price for a guy like him. Just get Jackson and I'll be happy. That's a great deal for Baltimore.
  8. That's a steal for Baltimore. Hahn better have a plan in place.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) Corey Ray's weekend: Friday 2-4, 2B, 2 BB, 3 R Saturday 2-2, HR, 3 RBI, 3 SB Edit: Ray 2-2 today and just crushed his 2nd HR. Want this kid bad. No way he lasts until ten unfortunately
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 05:32 AM) If he hits .280 in spring training give him the job. Thing is, his presence is going to steal so many at bats from our young shortstops. HOpe we have a lot of split squad days. As long as Rollins doesn't look like Bonifacio last ST, he has a great shot to be starting opening day. I have my doubts the Sox ever wanted Saladino to be a full time starter.
  11. Reigns has been entertaining for a few months now. It's too bad the fans hate him.
  12. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 04:25 AM) Except the reports are that he's going to be competing for the starting job at SS. IMO, Rollins is in the drivers seat.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 04:23 AM) Uninformed speculation - art or science? Just basing it on the end result. Not one confirmed contract to any outfielder. You have the best source on Sox baseball saying they can't spend. In the end, their lack of finances have really hurt their roster construction it would seem.
  14. Also likely means Nightengale was absolutely correct and they have no money left. Really seems like a trade with offsetting costs is only scenario to get an impact player
  15. The first segment did take 30 minutes
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) Doug Padilla ‏@DougPadilla 1m1 minute ago Phoenix, AZ Puig, Chapman, Reyes domestic abuse cases on commissioner's docket. Manfred said here in PHX discipline on 2 of 3 coming soon. probably not happening, but I wonder if Dodgers are waiting on a Puig ruling before moving an outfielder
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) There's not that many LHP in the MLB, so the season sample size for any given hitter against LHP is pretty small. Both Eaton and Melky were fine against LHP in 2014. Abreu is another one who was awful against LHP in 2015, but I wouldn't expect that to continue this year. Lawrie, Frazier and Navarro were good against LHP I believe last year. Just need one more bat you can play vs LHP so you don't have to count on LaRoche...or Shuck
  18. I'm pretty sure Hawk loved Sands when the Sox faced the Dodgers in his rookie season. He's no Randy Ruiz, but who is?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) NO idea if relevant or not... Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 6m6 minutes ago Source: Shane Victorino still looking for major-league deal, could close in on one in next few days. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 7m7 minutes ago On Victorino: Cleveland was in before signing Rajai Davis, Cubs are a speculative fit, Rangers not yet interested in giving big-league deal.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) How would it suck vs LHP? Melky is a switch hitter and is decent from the right side, Shuck has reverse splits, and Sands can rake lefties. Shuck and his amazing reverse splits of a .683 OPS. Melky couldn't have been much worse against LHP last year. Be nice to get another righty bat out there, especially with how bad Eaton was against LHP last year as well.
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Yeah those were the two that have been linked to him for a while. Hopefully they are in discussions with him and he realizes he has a much better shot to start here. I was hoping the Rangers would sign Stubbs or Venable. Stubbs was linked to them over the weekend. It just seems with Jackson that if the Sox were interested, they would have locked him up by now.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) Hopefully they come to some agreement with Jackson. He's the best fit. Defensively it would be a huge plus. We would save basically 11 runs by replacing Garcia with him. That could be a couple games worth of runs. From the same article about Crawford, there was a blurb linking the Cubs and Rangers to Jackson.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) That's what Shuck and Sands are for. A Melky/Eaton/Crawford outfield with Shuck as the 4th outfielder and Sands as the 5th outfielder/platoon DH with LaRoche would be nice. That outfield isn't a contending outfield. Crawford is unreliable, and holy cow would the team suck vs LHP.
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) Defensive runs saved he actually was a minus in each position in the outfield. Awful in RF. Serviceable in LF. God Awful in CF. The best part is he had almost no assists in the outfield. Good stuff, thanks. Don't get me wrong, I want someone way better than Venable. Just seems based off of the description given by Hahn that it won't be a full-time starter that they go after.
  25. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) I guess I'm just confused to why Fowler is valued as "worth it". Going rate for 1 WAR is what $7M? Fowler averages 2 WAR+ each year, so to me that seems like a very nice value. Just confusing, I guess. Cause he sucks on defense and would cost them a draft pick
