QUOTE (striker @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 02:56 AM) Stand pat. Baseball is a game of two halves, the first half you see what sticks to the wall, the second half you fill in gaps. If we have $6M to spend now then I imagine we could get a good bat at the trade deadline. I bet Jones could bat .250 hit 30hr and drive in 80. Well, that's a pretty awful strategy for the White Sox, considering our offense always seems to struggle during the 2nd half of the season.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) Very frustrating loss. Mccamey has just been awesome to watch of late, he is turning into a hell of a player. Must win game coming up on Tuesday. McCamey's easily the best pg in college basketball right now. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 02:23 AM) Dude, seriously, you used to RIP cabrera in game threads. You were merciless. Now you're defending him? I'm selling, not buying. Not defending him, I just thought Dye was petty with his issues with Cabrera. When you combine that with the way he reacted when Rios came to town, you have to wonder how his presence in the clubhouse was last season.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) according to ozzie he most definitely was. And don't forget he was the guy who called out OCab on his s***. Yep, and some of that stuff Cabrera was doing didn't deserve to be called out (ie: stealing 3rd with less than 2 outs). Dye's attitude after acquiring Rios last season was terrible, and you could see it on the field.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) the only reason I would've liked to see Damon signed was for his presence in the clubhouse. You lose a lot w/quality guys like Thome and JD. I don't think Dye was a good clubhouse guy the past few seasons.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) It's not that I think we should drop 8M on Damon, I just get ill thinking of all the Kotsay ABs we're going to have to witness this year Just think, one line drive out against Nathan started this whole Kotsay phenomenon. Blame it on Brian Anderson, I guess!

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:26 AM) How is Hewitt's job security? The fact that they are so mediocre with 3 1st round draft choices is truly incredible. He has a rollover contract that makes it very hard to fire him. However, they have a great AD, so I think he's gone after this year. And Gani Lawal isn't a 1st round draft pick. He's TERRIBLE...not even ACC starting caliber now. -

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) Ha, watching Roy "coach" this team is just unbearable this year, you can clearly tell he has absolutely no idea how to fix it. At least you know UNC will be back. GT continues to find new and exciting ways to lose. -
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:00 AM) The DH is for offensive only players. That's the whole point. A dh has no defensive value. Yep, versatility on the bench really isn't that important (especially when you have someone like Vizquel who can play 3 positions). As it stands now, we have an NL roster. Hopefully Jones has a strong season and Quentin stays healthy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) It will be officially dead once camp opens up. I don't blame Kenny one bit, Boras was dragging s*** along in typical Boras fashion. As much as maybe Damon wanted to play in Chicago, it seems all along that Boras/Damon knew that the Tigers were the team that they could get the most out of. The Tigers were always going to be the team that got the last shot of boosting their offer, and that seems to be what turned KW off. Boras has worked this way with the Tigers so many times in the past.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) Why? In like 1 year they'd be dealing him for prospects anyway. I just feel like they'd want some established players also. If they're going after all prospects, then that's why I feel we'd have no chance of landing AGon over the Red Sox.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:47 PM) There's no way you trade for AGon right now and not surrender Daniel Hudson in the process. I'm thinking they'd also possibly want John Danks also.
-
QUOTE (quickman @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) seriously? The guy is a force from the left side and solves your replacement for konerko for the next 5-10 years. Konerko comes off the books next year as well as others. No one thinks higher of him than I do. I just think it would be hard to give up ALL of your remaining prospects for him while agreeing to an 8 year or so extension without it having a huge impact on the shape of the organization. I still believe that we wouldn't beat out Boston for his services, but that's a different argument.
-
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) With how bad this offense is looking to be, it's unlikely that the Sox will be in a position to make a marquee trade. I'd rather not wait until midseason to fix a hole that's been apparent since the get go. One thing that worries me about going into the season with a huge hole at DH is the likelihood that Alexei gets out of the gate looking awful again.
-
QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) It's also a reflection of Damon, though. He has to know Boras is pissing on the legs of the only 2 organizations left wanting him. He's got to man up and say "Let's get this soap opera over and strike a deal". Boras is now acting like it's the Tigers and sox fault Damon didn't get his $10+ mill. deal and Damon is a party to it. I'll say this if we sign him or if we don't, but Damon is a piece of crap. I've heard a lot of stories about him outside of baseball, and he deserves to have Boras representing him and his image.
-
QUOTE (striker @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Who catches if Flowers is part of the trade? We'd probably bring back AJP, to be honest.
-
Also, as the latest Damon stuff is showing, having valuable prospects is so important for our organization because KW, etc. just don't get into negotiation wars for players. Never have, seemingly never will. The only way we bring in marquee players, besides via the draft, is via trades (or our Cuban connection).
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) You really don't see one of the best 1b's in all of baseball fitting into this organization? Not for what it would cost to get him, and then the impact that his possible 17-20 million dollar a year extension would have on bringing keeping the core here during their peak years (Floyd, Danks, Quentin, Beckham, Ramirez, Rios)
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) If I'm Kenny, I go to the Padres and get a deal done for AGon now. Going into the season with this big a hole is idiocy. Going into the season with literally no valuable prospects and no payroll flexibility is even dumber. I love AGon, but I just don't see him as a fit for this organization over the next 5 years due to his impending huge contract.
-
QUOTE (supernuke @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) Enjoy Detroit Mrs. Damon. He'll be in Detroit for 3 months, and after the Tigers struggle this season, he'll be traded to an AL East team for a mid-level prospect.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) The Cell is a better home-run hitting ballpark then Yankee Stadium. In fact, the Yankee Stadium home run park factor isn't even that remarkable. For a dead pull hitter like Damon, new Yankee Stadium was a haven for him.
-
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) I'd rather have Dye That bridge has been burned. I also think Ozzie would rather play Kotsay than him. I don't think Ozzie realizes that even though Jones and Kotsay look like they should be fast, they're not much quicker than Dye is on the bases.
-
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Welp, with this news, and Branyan signing with the Indians, I guess Jones/Kotsay is now set. Terrible. Blalock's still out there, but with being a Boras client, I can't see that happening.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) If Damon wants to play for the Sox at $6M he will. If he calls up Kenny and says he'll accept the deal KW won't tell him sorry no we already pulled it. If he takes Detroit's deal at $7M he would have taken theres anyways. This is all assuming these reported offers are correct. KW probably just got sick of Borass' antics said enough with it. If Damon really wants to play here and is willing to accept that offer he knows how to get a hold of KW. After actually reading Levine's article (I have to go wash my hands), this was nothing more than a negotiating ploy by KW.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) I dunno man I doubt the sox want to add someone or negotiate stuff once spring training starts. They already said they don't care if they make moves during Spring Training. That came out during the Thome situation.
