2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) It seems like the last couple years the Cubs have always found a way to miss the other team's ace. Of course they play the Marlins and miss Josh Johnson, last year they never saw Jair Jurrjens against Atlanta. Do they get Lincecum this week? Supposed to get Lincecum...watch it rain on Tuesday. They've missed Volquez the last 4 times they faced the Reds. Meanwhile, the Sox are destined to face the other team's ace 90 pct of the time it seems.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:21 AM) But Josh Fields is just too awesome in the two hole to sit. 9 games in a row without an extra base hit.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:19 AM) Greink will be tough, but Galarraga BABIP is due to blow up in his face sometime soon. Maybe we'll actually play as many lefties as possible against him this game. Betemit better get some playing time this coming week with all the righties we'll face.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:15 AM) The tell tale sign in this series is scoring 1 run off of the starters for Texas. This team really needs to become more consistent on offense. The guy last night shut them out for 5 innings and they were shut out essentailly for 5 again tonight. Just see the awesome stats Kalapse posted about how much we've struggled against starting pitching this season. Should be fun to face Greinke and Galarraga next week.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:14 AM) Miles sucks and Gathright cant hit. But yeah Hoffpauir is pretty solid except his defense is brutal. Miles hit over .300 in a lot of at bats last season. To say he sucks would be false, in my opinion.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) Yes, but Lou doesn't use them well. Correct me if i'm wrong, but while Hill's been hitting well, Lou sat him for about two weeks straight last week. Gathright has become a bondafide pinch runner, and while Hoffpauir hits, he can't do much else. They've had so many injuries this year, they haven't been able to utilize their bench in their appropriate roles.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:12 AM) Do you have a low 90's straight fastball? Are you looking for a few easy outs and a nice, cooling breeze? Well the very bottom and top of the White Sox lineup is just what you're looking for! If you want to catch a foul ball, a seat down the LF line will be a prime spot with all of Pods pathetic flares hit in that direction.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:11 AM) Ugh. What a bulls*** night all the way around for the Sox. Another year where we're at a disadvantage every game that is started by our 5th starter.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:07 AM) Ick, Pods really can't catch up to the heat. His bat speed is all but gone. Yep, it's pretty pathetic. Hawk's blowing of his infield single is Jerry Johnson-esque from "Little Big League". One little dribbler for a hit, and everyone goes nuts. It's not going to be fun watching him get 400 ABs this year. The potential really is there for this season to be like 2007 if Floyd can't get it going and the offense stays subpar.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 04:05 AM) Send his ass to Winston Salem and tell him to hit everything on the ground, every time he hits one in the air he does twenty pushups. There's no reason for Brent LillyBridge to ever hit another flyball for the remainder of his career, he weighs 124 pounds, groundballs, bunts and line drives or he can find a new team. The problem is he strikes out at the rate a power hitting prospect would. It's really amazing how terrible he is. Watching him hit this year, you would have thought he would have hit .220 in the minors last year.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:58 AM) I doubt JD plays tomorrow so either we'll see Alexei in the outfield or we're looking at a Quentin-LillyBridge-Podsednik outfield for the rubber match. No way we'll see Alexei in CF. I'm ok with that outfield as long as it's only for a few days. We just need to survive May with all these injuries and struggling players.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:55 AM) Ok, he has one good point in two days. It was sarcasm, I hope you know, as Contreras has never thrown a curveball.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:53 AM) Enough with the Lillibridge and Contreras already. Not sure what you do but this division is up for grabs and they need to do something. We're a bad decision by Owens away from having a possible lineup with Owens, Lillibridge, and Podsednik in the same lineup. We're not very good right now, but credit to the 4 guys at the end of the bullpen for maximizing our win totals so far.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:53 AM) Mike Huff is a dips***. That is all. Disagree...his observation of Jose's curveball was awesome.

So they hit 3 of our hitters, and possibly broke Dye's hand...and not one retaliation pitch thrown.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:43 AM) If you are right about Dye being out til June, we're done. We can't overcome the loss of Dye, not with our bench. With the glaring hole in the 5th pitcher spot, and now possibly two holes in the outfield....if this team is going to be under .500 this year, it's better they lose before the trade deadline than after. There's a ton of players that could be moved at the deadline this year and be beneficial for the growth of the organization.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:33 AM) If Dye is out for any amount of time, if we want to try and win, Alexei has to move to the OF. I couldn't agree more. I just saw a highlight of Dye's HBP, and I'll be shocked if we see him get another at bat before June.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) The Cubs offense has the potential to be really potent. However, they have no bench and they have no pen. Jim Hendry has done very little of value since stealing A-Ram from the Pirates. The Cubs bench is pretty damn good. Hoffpauir's a very good back-up 1B, and Miles is a good 2b/SS guy. Gathright gives them speed/defense in CF, and Hill seems like a suitable back-up catcher.

QUOTE (scenario @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:30 AM) Josh actually runs pretty well. What I can't understand is Cox's decision making process. He'll send a guy like AJ or Thome when it's obviously not a good idea... And he holds up Getz and Fields when sending them seems like a no-brainer. WTH? Jeff Cox is a terrible 3rd base coach. He's worse than Joey Cora was. Also, our bunting and base running has gotten worse since Cox took over.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 3, 2009 -> 03:30 AM) Exactly. Yet another POS scrub on our roster. We have too damn many guys like this (thank God we have one less in Owens). It's going to get even worse if Dye goes to the DL. I bet KW is really, really regretting the Swisher trade now.
