  1. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) That's what pisses me off when posters slurp other teams young players/farm system. Danks is INCREDIBLY underrated on this board. I was at work thinking about it last night. If Danks was on a division rival, could you imagine the posts about him?(some of which would probably come from you ) Why, I rarely post about young talent on other team? I think teams filled with young talent are incredibly overrated, and would much rather see a team trade some of their young talent for big time major league stars.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 08:53 PM) I'm sure I had plenty of other things I was wrong about, but since I couldn't possibly have been more wrong on Quentin if I tried, I feel better having got that one off my chest. People who can't admit when they are wrong are annoying, we all f*** up sometimes. With the unpredictable season we've had this year, the only people who weren't wrong about something are those that don't make predictions regarding players.
  3. I was worried about Danks' ability to compete after his struggles to end last season. He's shocked the hell out of me this season, and there's not many other pitchers younger than 25 out there that I'd trade him for. His first 6 innings last night were Johan-esque.
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) The "I was wrong about Floyd" is a whose who of Soxtalk. Cool list to be on. Fathom NorthsideSox72 ZoomSlowik Milkman delivers greg775 Tony82087 Dick Allen Shouldn't Gavin Floyd be on this list? Also, Aaron Rowand should be on this list, as he told AJP that Floyd would never get over the "deer in the headlights" look.
  5. Garcia's going to sign with the Tigers. I'm thrilled that we didn't sign him!!!!!
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Well, they got a good pick AND Jordan Danks. I guess that's not so bad. Exactly
  7. Oh, and I thought for sure the Sox were going to waste their high pick on Jordan Danks.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) Basically the rotation. I didn't think this team could survive with Floyd-Danks-Contreras. I also really wanted Alexei to start in AAA to get his feet wet. I will say however I was looking back at the "Sox trade for Carlos Quentin" thread last night, and forgot I got on my high horse and made 5 or 6 posts about how trading Konerko would be the smartest thing this franchise could do. Guess I was right there. Isn't it amazing how upset we were seeing Alexei in the lineup over the first 40 games or so?
  9. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) we'll see That was a bold prediction, I'll give that to you. The funny thing is that I had absolutely no recollection of making that until it was bumped. I've probably made others in the past like that, and they just got lost in the shuffle. Good thing I never promised to give my middle nut if something did or didn't happen.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) That's how I remember it It may take more than a post here to cleanse that. This was locker room bulletin board material. Epic actually. I'd be thinking of a much bigger mea culpa. Oh, it's coming, just no reason to jinx Gavin with time left in the season.
  11. I thought Dotel would be hurt prior to June.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) And what was that guarantee? No more game threads for me next year.
  13. No official sources, but there's a lot of buzz that it's completed.
  14. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) I thought the Sox would finish in either 4th or 5th place, and even bet a fellow Sox fan $50 that they would not win 80 games. I thought you were an eternal optimist.
  15. Gavin Floyd.....there, I've cleansed myself of the stupid "guarantee" I made.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) Probably the attitude considering how quickly he got benched. The Sox are really high on Buddy Bell, as is a lot of MLB. Fields is a very nice kid...perhaps too nice. Quite simply, he's not an instinctive baseball player. He has not swung the bat well all season, and it carried over from the minors to the majors. I'll be extremely surprised if he's with the Sox organization next season.
  17. Linebrink's out until at least September now.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 03:45 AM) The only game I saw on TV Griffey looked almost fat. I don't know if that's the case, but it sounds like this guy is a disaster in cf. He's very heavy now...he looks more like Daryle Ward now than Ken Griffey Jr.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) I haven't seen him play center on TV yet but I have read many comments. Is he way worse than Swish out there? If he is ... he can't be out there any more. KW and Oz can't be that dumb. I would say he's worse than Mackowiak. Mackowiak was brutal out there, but Griffey is a statue. Ramirez had to go out about 75 feet to catch a shallow fly ball to CF.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 03:31 AM) Somebody made a good point on here when we got Griffey saying the casual fans would be loving the move, but he knew better. Mighta been right. Is this guy's presence helping us at all? It's hurting us, no doubt
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:15 AM) Not a lot to like about this team right now. I'm really starting to worry. The Twins will simply not fade. Our pitching is in shambles right now (save a rare good start from a starter every now and then). We've got injuries all over the place. No legitimate replacements to step in for those injured guys. And with our crappy minor league system, there's not much KW can do in terms of bringing in reinforcements. The bigger issue is our bullpen is making it so comebacks are very difficult.
  22. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:57 AM) IMHO, Linebrink on the DL has probably cost this team 4-5 W's. It was insane how important he was to t his club. I'll try to put this as politically correct as I can.....Linebrink made Ozzie's decisions with the pen a lot easier. Now, he's trying hard to find a combination to get to Dotel in the 8th inning, and mixing/matching isn't his strong suit.
  23. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:57 AM) I hope this taught Ozzie one thing. Please pull Griffey from CF in a close game after the 6th inning. How about we just don't play him ever. This lineup has to change.
  24. Good series...we outplayed the Red Sox, no matter what the run differential says. I rarely say this, but we need to sweep the Royals. We're facing 3 mediocre righties.
  25. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:48 AM) Ha, playing to see who gets bounced by the Angels/Rays? It really feels like it. I can definitely see us making the playoffs, but I feel like we'd get dominated by either of those two. I'd rather play the Rays or Angels in the playoffs than the Red Sox. Rays are facing some huge injury issues.
