QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:57 AM) Whats even more disturbing is that its going to be his second MRI. Which means they have no damn clue what it is. If its a tear, we are in trouble. Stop being a pessimist

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) Iguchi will be at second unless he is hitting under .200 in mid May. I'm definitely not saying it will happen, but I bet we would have said something last year like "Shingo will be the closer unless his ERA is above 6 in May". I think it's important for Iguchi's confidence to get off to a hot start. He's going to try and change the way he approach his ABs this season, and if you struggle doing that at the beginning, then you get all out of whack.

I didn't even consider that the Pods injury could be more serious when I read his accounts of the injury until today. Serves me right, I guess, for hoping for the worst for Prior.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) Fathom, isn't Jerry Owens best suited to take Pod's lead off role? My God, two rookie OF on a defending WS team. One other thing to bounce off you, Alex Cintron looked fantastic on TV last night. If Iguchi struggles could you see Cintron at short and Uribi at 2nd? I think Ozzie would be more comfortable going with Mackowiak in LF, and maybe throwing Ozuna out there on occasion. Cintron's going to get a lot of playing time this season. It wouldn't shock me if he gets nearly 300 ABs filling in at 2b and SS.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:46 AM) I meant the reporters would get it from them. They wouldn't volunteer the info. They would certainly have no reason to hide it. This isn't football. Didn't Pods just have a minor hamstring problem last year....and it resulted in him being on the DL for about 20 days? Also, the fact that they're having their "shoulder doctors" come read the MRI is interesting. If the MRI was clean, they could just read that via satellite.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:46 AM) I won last year when we won the world series. According to fathom we ahd the biggest choke in MLB history. Wow No one is happier that we won last year than me. And yes, we were on the verge of the biggest choke in MLB history. Thankfully, we didn't choke. That will be my stance with you if you ever bring this up again this season.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:41 AM) But he's confident it's just the muscle -- it must not be a big deal. Lots of shoulder controversy in the city of Chicago today. BTW, I'm not saying Pods is going to be out a long time. I just think he might be 3-5 days behind schedule. Since we're likely facing C.C. on opening night, it's not a big deal.

QUOTE(SouthsideBlitz @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:39 AM) Not saying I'm thrilled eithier but it ain't like were getting help from anyone else. I have a feeling that another couple of games of nearly every reliever having a WHIP of 3 might make KW accelerate any trade possibilities.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:35 AM) That wouldn't hurt a ton though if it does indeed happen. Mackowiak would just start in LF and probably lead off. It might have an impact on Borchard making the team though. We're going to face quite a few lefties to start the season. Who will be playing LF vs lefty? Ozuna again?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) Oh snap. They sent the MRI directly to you? ANd you are an MD? Nice. I had no clue. I better put the MD in there. Fathom, MD Looks nice. They'll just give him a coritsone if necessary. Considering he went from saying everything is fine to saying he can't get the bat through the zone, it doesn't sound like things are improving at all. I know you're the most optimistic person on the face of this Earth, but this isn't what I would describe as great news.

QUOTE(SouthsideBlitz @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) Forgot we signed him ... With hermie possibly going down and our LOOGY pitchers not helping our situation, Nomo actually might make this team ... Yay, another outstanding arm in the bullpen. :banghead Nomo doesn't throw strikes, and he has nothing left on his pitches. Considering he can't hold runners, throws a lot of balls in the dirt, and can barely reach 85 mph on his fastball, he shouldn't even be considered for a MLB bullpen spot.

Pods won't be ready for opening day.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) If our second lefty faces Hafner on opening night that means that Buerhle likely got hurt or sucked and it wouldn't matter anyway. Considering that Cotts is going to have to be used in the 8th inning likely this season, our second lefty is going to have to pitch in the 6th or 7th inning on occasion. I'd also like to see Ozzie ease up on the innings pitched by our starters at the beginning of the year.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) I love this topic. Nothing scarier to people than a 21-yr old getting a roster spot when he hasn't pitched above A ball. Something scarier is the idea of Logan coming in to face Travis Hafner on opening night in the 6th inning.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) never seen a guy get so much hype for striking out a couple of his own teamates. And those are the two hardest guys to strikeout since Tony Gwynn. :banghead

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 04:36 AM) Vizcaino had those numbers, he didn't close, and he got clobbered on this board. Giving up 6 runs in the 3rd game of the season won't set the tone for a good reputation with a fanbase.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) First 2 games of the AA Supers tonight.....a nice little doubleheader at UIC with Thornwood vs. Homewood-Floosmoor followed by Proviso East vs. Simeon, with the 2 winners heading downstate. It could definitely be debated that the winner of game 2 is the favorite to win the whole damned thing. Um....I think GBN is the big time favorite as of right now. -
Danny Graves is AWFUL!

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Borchard and/or Gload plus some low level prospect for a relief pitcher before opening day. Lunch at the chinese place says I'm right. Here's a legit question I have for you: Does Gload have any trade value? He seems more to me like minor league guys who are a dime a dozen, and often switch teams in the offseason. If KW could get value for Gload, I'd be thoroughly impressed.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) His knuckler is nasty, but he is too inconsistent with it. Either its unhittable, or straight as an arrow. The only thing that will help him is some more time throwing it. I think it's just as important for knucklers to be able to have excellent control on their fastball so they can grab a strike when they need it.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) happens with 80% of knuckleballers. they have no idea where the ball is going. When I saw him pitch over the wknd, he seemed to have good command. He was throwing the knuckler right down the plate on a platter for the hitter.

Do we typically have this many crappy pitchers on our roster going in the spring training games?

QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) LOL. I've never seen a guy go on such a long tangent about a prospect, and what he could net you, without even knowing the kid's damn name. That kills your credibility with everything else in this post. If you don't know the name of one our better IF prospects, and a high selection in last year's draft, what makes you think that anybody cares about your evaluation of a guy in the Angel's system that you've surely never heard of?(longest sentence ever) BTW... 5 or 6th best IF prospect, IN BASEBALL? Keep on making things up. It's amusing. FWIW, Flash is one of the most level-headed posters we have here. As he mentioned in his response, it doesn't matter how he spelled the prospect's name. We all knew who he was talking about, and the point he made was clear.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) IM surprised nobody mentioned Fields as a possibility. I think he has the skill set to make it, just needs more polish. Also, Broadway at this point looks like an iffy pick, and Carrillo should have been the choice IMO. As soon as I posted this, I thought of Fields. This is a huge year for him. He still needs to make his swing more compact. I'm hoping he can hit 25+ homers this season.

QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) Here are the White Sox position player prospects I think will make it: Sweeney - he will be a starter and a very good player. They won't trade him. Owens - He will be a 4th OF but is not an irreplaceable long term cog. He may start for us or some other team for a few years though. Valido - He will start at SS for us or some lower level team but will never be a great hitter. He is a good instinctive ballplayer though, even now at age 20-21. Chris Stewart - He will hang around the big leagues for 5-6 yrs. as a fringe backup catcher. As for pitchers, what they have now is a total crapshoot, they'll know more what they have after 2006. I'd say right now that Sweeney is the one guy in our minors who I'm sure will make it as a starter in the big leagues. Owens, in my opinion, is nothing special as a MLB prospect. Sure, he has the tools that Ozzie wants in the player.....but so do guys like Endy Chavez, etc. I still can't understand why we took Broadway over Carrillo. The one thing I love about KW now is that he's going to do his best to put a winner on the field THIS YEAR. Too many GMs try to build for the future, and three or four years later, they're fired. KW overlooked our bullpen this offseason. However, I'm confident he'll do his best to get another big league arm.
