White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron

QUOTE(easyw @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) The whole Cub-Sox hater thing is all hype. It is? I hate the f***ing Cubs, and wouldn't mind if their whole team got injured. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Hold on for just a second here, guys. Alex Cintron had a .298 obp last year, and has a career .320 obp. he isn't perticularly fast and isnt a stolen base threat, he has no power, he's not a very good defensive player from what im looking at, and he's going to make nearly two million dollars this season. Personally, I think the Diamondbacks suck for trading away my cousin Jason last week and then today going out and acquiring Bajenaru, but at the same time this deal is hardly the fleecing you guys are making it out to be. The Marlins would have traded some AAAA fodder like the White Sox did had Cintron been reasonably priced, but he's far from it. Rotoworld brings up a good point in there disection. And this is one of the reasons some of us can't stand you on this site. Myself, and many others, are far from Sox homers. However, I'm sick of you constantly stating how every single move the Red Sox make is the greatest transaction ever. Also, if your cousin can't beat out Baj, then he doesn't deserve to make it to the big leagues (it's harsh, but it's true). I find it hillarious that you bring up a player's contract. Coming from a Red Sox fan, that's comical. No one is saying Cintron's a superstar. However, he's a very good bench player, and is versatile enough to fill in anywhere on the infield. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) No, i get the feeling they dont like him at all. I do though, I think he is a good player. The cub fans sure hate him as well. Yeah, Hairston definitely doesn't seem like he's well-liked in the organization. However, if the Cubs want another middle infielder, I think they'd go after a bigger name than any of the guys we have. Again, I think this was a move used to help our depth, and to allow Mackowiak to be used more in the outfield. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) Why? I don't see the point in giving Ozuna a roster spot. Lets see....he's the fastest player on the team, is a good situational hitter, can bunt, and is well-liked in the clubhouse. Yep.....seems like there's no spot for him. -

I don't think we're going to make another trade for a big league player before the beginning of the season. -

- I don't think he was hurt too much. Izturis was the guy with the injury problems. - Ozuna isn't going anywhere. - I love how we're adding lefties to our team. It will help if we face righties with tough sliders, etc. -

Cintron had great stats as a PH last season, and he also had at least 15 starts at 2b, SS, and 3b. This also is more proof that once you're on KW's radar, it's very likely you'll end up on the Sox down the road. We've heard rumors of Cintron for about 3 years now. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) So who is going to be the first to make the Jeff Bajunaru appreciation thread?? The fans in right field afraid of getting hit by a Travis Hafner home run ball? Good luck Baj in Arizona. -

It's real simple...the Sox don't have any true backups that can play a solid SS. Ozuna can play there, but he's not exactly a wizard in the field. Also, I think Mackowiak's going to get a lot of playing time in the outfield this season. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Wow, Good trade for us, sad to see Baj go however. Do we really need Cintron when we already have Mack and Ozuna? It doesn't hurt to have another versatile infielder. Cintron can play SS a lot better than any of our backups can. In my mind, Baj wasn't going to ever be a factor for the White Sox, so to get a MLB caliber reserve for him is a great deal. This might mean the end for Gload though. -

If this is true, this is a fantastic trade! -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) Rather than pitchers beating him, I saw Iguchi look just plain tired. His bat slowed down, which seemed to suggest fatigue more than pitchers owning him The fatigue seemed to be more mental. He just didn't seem to have a lot of focus at the plate, and was chasing pitches above his head and in the dirt. Oh well, at least he waited back on that curve by David Wells!

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:38 AM) From GTech, goofy mother f***er, looks like Napoleon Dynamite, softest center in basketball history. Thats all you need to know. He looks soft, but he's actually a very smart player on the court. He's a great help defender (even though refs won't give him benefit of doubt right now). At least he gives the Bulls another tall guy instead of their 20th power forward at 6'8".

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:44 AM) Iguchi struck out 114 times last season. I hope he doesn't strike out more than that this season. Oftentimes, he was in a hole because he was taking pitches so Podsednik could steal. He won't have to do that this season if he's batting sixth. What happened a lot was that pitchers would throw fastballs early in the count to avoid Pods stealing. Then, Iguchi would get in down in the count, and they'd put him away with a slider. I'd like to see him be aggressive at the plate this season.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:39 AM) Fathom, we have to get our PM convos back up pretty soon here. With Iguchi, is disagree 100%. I think Iguchi is going to have a big season in the 6 hole. I think his K's are going to go up, but I think thats to be expected with anyone going from the 2 hole to the 6 hole. I expect 23-25 HR's from Gooch, with about 85-90 RBI's. I have high expectations for him, and I really believe he is going to live up to them. We shall see... Yeah, that would be great if he could do that. To be honest, I think that his real poor stretch at the end of the season is fresh in my mind, so it lowers my expectations for him.
-
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:14 AM) The league adjusted to our other Japanese import, Gooch will be just fine Do you really want to compare Iguchi's upcoming second year to Shingo's second year? Hell, we'll be begging to have Willie back if that's the case.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:08 AM) Care to elaborate? I felt like the league adjusted to him last season as the year went on, and Iguchi struggled to make his own adjustments. This is a very big year for Iguchi, and it's important for our lineup that he avoids the Sophomore Slump.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:06 AM) Does anyone else get the feeling Ross Gload has a s*** attitude? This is something that's been bugging me since last year. Ha, yes, I'm shocked he's still with this organization.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:04 AM) Our weakest hitter? That's rather bold. It's only been 13 at bats. Trust me, it's not the ABs so far this season which made me think this.
-
I'm still concerned that Iguchi's going to be our weakest hitter this season. Doesn't seem like he's real comfortable at the plate so far.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) If Konerko had left...he would have been basically our best option. I'm pretty sure KW had some moves in mind if Konerko went elsewhere.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Just curious but why don't people think that Jerry Owens can't or won't be a starter in the MLB. What does Podsednik do that Owens can't do? Or is it just that you guys don't think that Podsednik is worthy of a starting LF job? For every guy like Podsednik who does enough to warrant a starting spot, there's someone like Tike Redman who just isn't worth the at-bats he receives.

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) Anderson is gonna be second on the team in strikeouts barring injury or if he gets benched for an extended period of time. Who's going to be first? Thome?
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Anderson needs to lay off the breaking crap low and in the dirt. Otherwise, he will have the same annoying weakness as Rowand. Wow, that's scary how similar our posts were.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) his swing does appear kinda long. But he is pretty decent at making contact. I just have a feeling he's going to struggle at the low and away slider like Rowand did last season. However, the upgrade from Everett to Thome will offset any downgrade from Rowand to Anderson (even though everyone knows I wasn't a fan of Rowand). Iguchi is the guy I think will be key. He was swinging with no confidence at the end of last season.
