QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 01:12 PM) He should've kept it on in protest. But they might've banned him from the game. It's a Spring Training game and Biggio is nearly 40 he has no use for such games so I wouldn't have blamed him one bit if he decided to go that route, of course Craig Biggio is far too classy to ever do such a thing since he would see it as disrespecting his employer and letting down his teammates.

In a continued effort to become the most loathsome human being on the face of the earth, Bud Selig and the Major League Baseball Head Offices have decided to spit in the face of some cancer ridden Children. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) Just because Boone Logan gagged it last year, as a 21 year old rookie by the way, doesn't mean he will again. This kid has a future. Another year of maturity and having gone through the experience last year may have given him the mindset he needs to be successful. I hate when people write off a young player because he s*** the bed on his first exposure to the majors. If everyone had that attitude, Willie Mays would have been labeled a bust. Actually Willie Mays won Rookie of the Year as a 20 year old with the New York Giants, he was pretty amazing in his first go round as a major leaguer. Vida Blue on the other hand was pretty terrible as a 19 year old rookie in 1969.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) If that was Jeter or AROD it would be considered one of the greatest catches in baseball history. If it were AROD they would have called him a bastard for impeding the fan's view of the game and attacking small children with his forehead.

The last time I said a AA pitcher was not ready for the bigs and questioned the move of promoting him was with that big closer guy. It's not the same situation at all really but I'm going to go the opposite direction with Danks, he just strikes me as the type of pitcher and just guy in general who won't be shaken by such a promotion. I'm all for him making the team as the 5th starter, largely because I think he's the best option available.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 12:38 AM) No offense, but having a lot of veteran position players ... wouldn't we be better off with a fifth starter who the Sox know can pitch? Do we really believe a 21 year old is gonna last six, seven innings in the big leagues per game ... in our tough division? I really hate to be a pessimist, but I wonder. Those of you who have seen the guy pitch, are you convinced he, at 21, is gonna do the job? I mean many on the boards freak at veterans like Vazzy imploding after six innings. Aren't the odds much greater of Danks doing what Logan did at the start of last year than Danks winning games for a team that supposedly is a contender?? Well last year there were three 23 year old rookies and one 21 year old that had a good amount of success in their first go rounds as starters at the major league level, 3 of them pitched in the vaunted AL Central. I'm not saying Danks is of the same caliber player as the Liriano's, Sowers', Verlander's and Weaver's of the world but it wouldn't be unheard of if Danks had some success at the big league level as a 22 year old rookie in 2007. The precedent is there. Also there were three 22 year old rookie starters all in the same damn rotation last season who saw a fair amount of success at such a young age just last season. Not that Danks is as good as Olson, Johnson or Sanchez or course. Not the mention the 21 year olds Matt Cain and Cole Hamels.

QUOTE(max power @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) Tall people = god's gift to the pitching mound. I mean just think of all the steller 6' 10" pitchers of the past. There's currently 3 league average or better 6'10"+ pitchers in the bigs and considering how often you see 6'10" baseball players drafted, I'd say the ratio of successes to failures is probably pretty high, at least over the past decade or so. Height can be an outstanding tool for a pitcher, the arm angle alone is a huge plus.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) Watched the replay of Floyd pitching. Everything about him looks bad. His delivery/arm slot is awful, as you can pick up the ball right away. His fastball is in the 89 range, and he can't throw his offspeed pitch over the plate. He is nowhere near having good control, and that's what his downfall is right now. I'll make the prediction that he won't have an ERA under 4.50 in AAA. As a reference I also watched the Colorado broadcast of the game on MLB.tv and Floyd was sitting in the 92-93 MPH range with his fastball and they had Danks at 89-90. Just saying.

QUOTE(Shadows @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) Man I love me some Willy Taveras.. sucks the Astros traded him because now I wont get to see him play anymore but he was an excellent defender who had incredible speed.. It would be great if we had him leading off for this team You know what? It was you who recruited me for the Willy Taveras Bandwagon and I have bought in. I went back and watched some Astros games from last season on MLB.tv and I've gotta say I was impressed with Willy. The guy has an above average arm which is very uncommon for a speed player like him, he gets some pretty good reads on the ball off the bat and his blazing speed comes in handy for tracking balls down in the gaps. He's still only 25 and should improve upon his game this year, I could see him becoming one hell of a leadoff man, with that speed of his he's going to pick up a ton of infield and bunt base hits. It's really a shame the Sox couldn't work anything out with the Astros this offseason that could have included Taveras.

Keeping to the topic of Michael Vick . . . Outstanding. KSK really has become the definitive Football (and all things demented) blog on the interwebs. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) I'm continuing the Kenny Mayne love. He went on for about 5 minutes talking about how Shelley Smith disappears for great lengths of time following college teams even as they have lost in the tournament into stores in case they need coupons. would have died laughing if my roomie were not sleeping It seems that he's the new Sunday Night SportsCenter anchor along side Scott. This is a very good move by ESPN*. *It just seems wrong saying that.

Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Personally, I'll enjoy watching redick fail more. And, once he got back from his injuries, Roy was gonna be ROY (yes, I know, already has the name too) even before Bargnani's season ended unless Bargnani made a monster ending push. I enjoy watching the both of them fail, I don't necessarily prefer one over the other and being a big Roy fan myself makes it just that much sweeter. Reddick does have a DUI to his name, a 0 dimensional game, a pissload of ACC backed hype and that prickish Dukey grin but Morrison has the ridiculous mustache, the Larry Bird hype and the crying like a pussy on his head. It's impossibly to choose. -
Tony is also a staunch vegetarian, getting tanked + eating a bunch of lettuce isn't going to help you much when it comes time to take the Breathalyzer. Perhaps if he chewed on a cow every once in a while he wouldn't have this trouble.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) maybe or maybe not I don't dislike Kruk as much as most people do so that doesn't really work with me. The guy actually come off as somewhat likable and intelligent when he does radio. I think he's considered a moron by most because when on TV you actually have to look at him which distracts you from what he's saying. I know you probably weren't really using Kruk specifically as someone who didn't like the Garcia trade from the Sox' perspective but I kind of wanted to say that about Kruk. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) I hate you, collapse. Join the club, it's already quite sizable.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Hated it. Yeah well, you don't count. I forgot to add "unanimous amongst knowledgeable fans" to that sentence.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) I think they may have been playing the media. if they were really that shocked, they don't know what they're doing and KW should have totally screwed them. but i don't think that is the case, i think it is more of a public relations thing to say "check it out, Phillly fans, i just made a great deal". The fact that most baseball pundits echoed Gillick's sentiments on the Garcia deal does seem to lend some credence to Flash's assessment however.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) I never said those quotes are what I actually beleive, but what people would say. I would love Taveras in LF right now. Hell, I would feel alot better about the whole CF mess if Ozzie just came out and said Taveras is our CF. I would still like to see Brian, but I also know Taveras has some upside. You and I both know people would still b**** about it, and thats really the point I was trying to make. Yeah, I know what your point was. I was just going off on a little tangent. I really don't give a s*** about the Garcia trade so this subject doesn't interest me much. The comparing Tavares to Podsednik thing bothers me because I know a lot of people have and would have made such a comparison which is pretty ridiculous. And yes people would have b****ed about it but that's mainly because there's always someone around to b**** about everything (except for the Hall signing, that was pretty much unanimous.)
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) If we traded Garcia for Hirsh-Willy T-Buchholz, people would probably complain just as much. "Willy T is just the Latin Podsednik" "Hirsh belongs in AAA(6.17 ERA this spring,6.04 MLB ERA) "Buchholz is trash" Man Willy Taveras would look really good in LF right now. To compare Taveras to Podsednik is pretty silly too, he's 25, plays excellent defense with a major league arm and has legit speed. Just those 3 things alone make him a much more valuable commodity than Pods.

Would you make this trade with the Phillies ?
Kalapse replied to WHITESOXRANDY's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) Well, I definitely disagree with some on Lieber. The guy is a winner. He won 17 games in 2005 and 14 the year before. He won 9 being injure last year. He's throwing well right now and as for being 37 - so what ? That's nothing -there are lots of pitchers in starting rotations from 37-43. No one's talking about a long term contract with the guy but he's better than whoever the Sox will have in the 5th spot. Oh, and Gavin Floyd, a buster. Apparently, Danks will be the starter and I hope he's ready. He looks good but I'd rather not rush him. So who else are you taking off the Sox' roster to counter the addition of Lieber's contract? The Sox are not going to have a $112M+ payroll this season. To use injuries as an excuse for the poor play of a 37 year old pitcher doesn't exactly work in your favor. -
Sox lose 5-3 in a rain shortened 6 1/2 inning game. Floyd was s*** and Danks was the balls considering he didn't have his best stuff today.
-
That should be the game.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) What's so tremendous about that play? OMG, he moved his glove over two feet while charging in!!1!!1 Gavin not helping himself out offensively either. Well he initially ran the wrong way then fell down and grabbed the ball. It wasn't a great play by any means and considering how badly he f***ed up the charge initially he's lucky to have made that play.
-
s*** throw from the SS, Anderson scores from 2nd on the over throw to 1B.
-
That was a pretty nice play by Jamey Carrol right there.
-
I must say, Brian is showing some confidence at the plate right now. He's taking some of these pitches nicely. He needs to cut down on his swing though it seems way too often that he's taking some big hack at a pitch he should just be trying to make contact with. And Anderson walks. He's seen a lot of pitches today, he's had two 3-1 counts, a groundout, a single and a walk.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) Who hit it, and were there any walks involved? Garret Atkins hit it over the batter's eye in center field. Floyd walked Matsui to load the bases, this followed a throwing error of his on a bunt back to the mound by Willy Tavares.
