  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/cubs...e-to-terms.html Me thinks Hendry Just made D-Lee a bit more expensive.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Don't know if it's a good fit, but it's rumored that Tim Salmon is available. I'd rather have Pete Incaviglia
  3. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) If the Cubs miss out on Chili Davis I heard they're going to go after Ellis Burks. Dante Bichette is waiting by the phone as well.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) His agent said that's not the case last I saw. He should be in the $2.5-3M range I'd think, unless someone else goes nuts. My bad, hadn't read that. If that's the case, sign him up Kenny. Maybe we can trade him for Marte mid-season
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) You have to assume PK will be more productive if for no reason other than familiarity with the park, division, and league overall. However, if the difference is $5M or so then that could be, say, Arthur Rhodes as a lefty specialist and Matt Guerrier as a middle reliever, which may not be the sexiest names but may be enough to keep the back end of the pen guys in their roles and keep the pen strong. Then you've got 2 draft picks and you also don't have to deal with such a lengthy commitment. OTOH, the Sox could go with Lee, then spend the money on someone who just ends up DFA'd in June, and the difference between Lee and PK costs us the division. And because it costs us the division we end up reloading/rebuilding in 2012-14 instead of contending. But then maybe we get Wood on a great bargain due to the savings and he kills it for us, and then we sign Lee and he's just a monster on a sweetheart deal because we picked up an affordable 2012 option in the process. Huge decision. According to mlbtr earlier, Guerrier is looking for something in the neighborhood of what Benoit got from Detroit ($16.5/3).
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Honestly, I couldn't be happier right now. If PK comes back, then great, he's my favorite Sox player ever. If it's Lee and 1-2 relievers, then that's perfect also. That's how I am too. Totally indifferent. I'm convinced something we like will be done one way or the other.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Maybe it's my old age but I cannot even recall our previous first baseman before Paulie took over. Was it Frank or was there someone in between? Cordero/Norton platoon
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I'd be amazed if anyone wanted Wood at that price s***, half that price.
  9. I like Plan G, for Grinder: -Let Konerko walk -Trade Quentin in some sort of salary-saving deal that nets us some bullpen help -Sign Carl Crawford -Dayan plays 1st -Championship.
  10. I'm trying to understand why anyone would go over like 4 years for Lee. He's 32 and someone correct me if I'm wrong, hasn't he had back issues?
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Any interest in Fukudome if the Cubs offered to pick up half his remaining salary? Like southsider said, if we could fill in the additional gaps with a Quentin deal, absolutely. But I think they'd have to cover more then half that. They'd have to cover something like 8 or 9 of the 13.5 owed.

  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) I don't think he goes to the O's unless the offer is far above the Sox and D-Backs. I'd guess its a question of playing near home and family versus the franchise he knows and can win now. And that is a tough call, if the money is very similar. I agree. He'd have to have a Jeter like deal (51/3, option for 4th) on the table from Baltimore to consider it. Doesn't mean he can't use a modest offer as leverage though.
  14. Man if they sign Werth and Lee, that'd turn this friggin' league upside down.
  15. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) Jon Heyman on twitter reporting that a 7 year offer for Lee was put on the table by a "mystery" team
  16. Remind me never to get hitched in Cali.
  17. Move on Kenny, Landis is trying to "Jeter" us!
  18. We should give Daryle Ward a nickname... "Plan Q" sounds about right.
  19. No I think he was arguing that for what it'll cost the Sox, he's a better fit.
  20. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) what about someone like crain? He'll be less costly but he'll still cost some money. He's coming off a nice year.
  21. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) Anyone else feeling like Konerko re-signing took a bit of a hit today? The longer it takes, the more it's questioned.
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) The good thing is that there seems to be a decent middle relief market out there. I wish Putz came back, but oh well, what can you do? I'd go after Balfour and Okajima. If we couldn't afford Putz I don't see how we'd be able to bring in Balfour either. Think it may be bargain bin bullpen shopping for KW.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) So what doesnt match up there? We know Konerko and his teammates were hearing he was a priority before any of this went down. KW was also negotiating with Dunn as soon as he possibly can because he was plan A. So where does A-gon fit in? My guess: Nowhere. Completely fabricated story. You are some kind of sorcerer.
  24. QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) I just read the White Sox were the runners up to get Gonzalez, having offered Gordon Beckham and Prospects per MLB Trade Rumors. Do you think they did this even after acquiring Dunn and were going for him instead of Konerko? And where the heck would they come up w/ that kind of money to sign him? You'd have to assume that if Gonzalez had come, Dunn and Konerko would be playing elsewhere. I guess we coulda signed one of them on a frontloaded deal since Gonzo is only making $6 mil this season but I think the plan woulda been Gonzalez at first, Dayan or Quentin at DH.
