QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) We didn't dump Thome. Williams did the classy thing and found him a place where he could get his world series ring. We dumped Uribe because he was wildly inconsistent, and we had others coming through the system who were ready for a shot. Would you rather have Uribe playing 3B over Beckham? SS over Ramirez? I would rather have Uribe still here as our super sub. A bad yeare with the bat doesn't mean someone is necessarily declining. People are to quick to condemn or dump a player for off years

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) I’m fine with the Javy trade, that’s a dead issue for me. I’m also not sure how this would have any effect on the Peavy trade given that we’ve been pursuing him for years and none of the players we got for Swish, or traded for Peavy had anything to do with each other. I don't think it would have had any effect on the Peavy deal.

QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 06:22 AM) There's no guarantee either player would've done as well as they have with their new teams. Even if they did, there's absolutely no way that would push us from 6 below .500 to 11+ above. We also wouldn't have Peavy, Rios, Flowers, and possibly Viciedo. Trades are a bit more complicated in this era aren't they? I always am amazed at how several moves made or not made then magically allows us to trade for somebody else. Money becomes available, etc. But, when we hear about how the Sox (KW) has been trying to get someone for years and then gets that coveted player-of course the skills have diminished mind you-we are just so happy about it all. I like the idea of building from within, but how many of our so called prospects have surfaced as star players in other organizations? KW wanted Swisher real bad and then after they get him he gets dumped and is called a bad influence in the clubhouse. Thome is a great clubhouse presence and a super slugger and basically gets released (I don't care if we got some AAA player). We dump Uribe becasue of the money, etc, etc. Look at what happened to the Big Hurt, who arguably is the greatest hitter this organization ever has had and maybe ever will have. The point I am making is the game has changed so much that the old way of trading like Bil Veeck did by sitting in the lobby of the hotel with an open for business sign is long gone and will never be back. It is strictly a business decision for a GM in many cases.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Tommy John, Goose Gossage, who was the cat that was traded for Roy Sievers, it never ends with this s***ty organization. I thought at first you were saying Goose was traded for Roy Sievers who played for the Sox in 1960 and 61.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) You and me both, brother. You'd think that I'dremember to post my pick since I'm running the thing. I noticed that sometimes you forgot to make your own pick.

WE WON IT!!

Another run on a deflected ball
-
Sure don't like to see the Tigers get anymore runs period. Soft hit ball to CF. How many of those did we see this year?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) You're gonna love his nuts. Knight ole buddy. DSo me a favor and go back over all the PTC's. I think I should have won about adozen more than what I have.

Last home game of the season so it's nice to go out of Chicago on a winning note. Hopefully that carries over in 2010. I have agood feeling about next year.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) No... Party Pooper
-
I know some guys who didn't give up yet as evidenced by todays game. Are we still in this thing?
-
Carlos Quentin with the long ball!!! 8-2 Sox. CQ has 4 RBI's today and he is my PTC so I think I might have picked up a win myself today
-
Good job by Kotsay to give un that 5th run. Alexei gets a hit so let's get some more CQ!
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) I'd put the chances of Jenks being back at 25%. Not real sure of any odds I would give right now, but the talk by Ozzie and KW make me think he will be back.
-
AJ is fading. 0-4 today. He must be one of the quitters
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Another good test for Thornton today as our future closer. I am afraid Jenks will be back next year as the closer and Matt as the set up guy in the 8th

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) This is the part of the game where our lack of offense becomes annoying and my mood worsens. Why can't we score runs at home ever?? Are they all trying to hit the homer?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) I like the way Hudson works quickly. Hurrah. He's a nice prospect obviously! Yes. It seemed like he was going after Granderson and his picthes were mixed well and in the zone

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Are we watching the same Jermaine Dye? I thought it was pretty much agreed upon by everybody that he has no range anymore. He has been pretty bad in the field. I would ask the Dye detractors that question
-
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) It's at the point where his bat and glove hurt the team. I don't want him back at all. Dye is healthy. Healthy knees and legs and I have seen some very good defense from JD and his throwing arm is strong. The talk about him being a poor defender doesn't ring true in my book
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Rios got owned there. Dye is not finished yet. Maybe in Chicago, but he's not done. I will say this here and now and continue to say it. I think the Sox would be making a mistake to drop Jermaine Dye. He should get a two year deqal in Chicxago. We have no one ready in the minors to take his place as far as I cn see at least not for another year or two. Trades and fre agency aren't there in my opinion.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Swisher is not above average at CF. He played 0 games at CF this year and prior to joining the Sox had only started 57 games at CF for the A's. If he is even average, why dont the Yankees use him there? Putting hi in CF was the Sox bad not his. He can play CF and in fact all htree OF posiiton and he is better at iB defensively. There really was no open position for Swisher, but CF.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Wow, great turn-around by Hudson. He realized he needed to compete and did
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Jermaine seemed extremely shaken up in the clubhouse prior to the game. He knows he's not coming back. Are you speculating or has that officially been announced?
