  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) Cabrera a big name? Not at this stage of his career. Big name or big salary?
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 01:15 AM) I would guess he is going to be just fine. I was just making the point that it won't be at $6 million for each year. It is going to be cheap up front, and expensive at the end. I understood that point. You would hope it would be good for both sides as danks and Floyd should continue to improve with experience
  3. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_cws That would be good
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:47 AM) Buddy Bell has said that he's ready defensively and very close to ready offensively. Now I'm not saying the Sox will go with him, but from what has been quoted, the brass believes he's knocking on the door. No disagreement on that. I guess only time will tell and we will see what happens in ST 2010. When is that by the way?
  5. The Sox aren't going to pay Manny money and are the LAs trying to get rid of Manny? I haven't seen anything on that.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) He's not ready yet, I'm 100% convinced. You can tell from his stat line last year; not just the struggles in the 2nd half, but he had a glaring weakness the whole year; his strikeout total was way too high. His single-A average and slugging were great because he put up a .400+ BABIP. Now, I know all the caveats that go with that; he was likely hitting a lot of balls hard, but reality is, when you move upwards, the pitchers get better at finding ways to push that down. Even the best big league hitters are no where near that. When he got to AA, yes he was probably dealing with a lot of injuries, but his BABIP also dropped to more human levels, and suddenly he was in a gigantic slump. He simply needs to put the ball in play more. He struck out 102 times in 402 ab's this year. In a full season, those are Ryan Howard/Adam Dunn type numbers, and D2 the mighty Danks isn't going to hit 40 home runs for us. At least a year away and maybe 2 wouldn't you say?
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) Where are these magical players that get younger? I hear other teams have them, but never actually seen one..... I think you are right. I just looked at myself in the mirror and I think I look older too. Doesn't go the other way does it? But, what is missing in this specualtion is that the Yankees won't make a bid to keep Damon.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) I'd rather have Pods. Me too
  9. Maybe Don Cooper can straighten him out!?
  10. Javier Vazquez is a very good pitcher. But, we won't rtrade for him IMO not becasue as some say he choked when he needed to step up, but because he will command a good price. Javier did great with Bobby Cox who knows how to handle pitchers. Ozzie says he learned alot from Cox and maybe he has some more learning to do frfom Bobby Cox in regards to handling sensitive souls like Javier.
  11. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) If you look at the Braves rotation, it makes the most sense to trade Javy. They aren't unhappy with him at all. In fact, they'd prefer to trade Lowe, but nobody is going to take on that contract. Javy is coming off a good year and has a reasonable contract (length and dollars). The Braves have a glut of pitching (including two very good young starters) but still really need a bat, preferably in the OF. Is he still working under the contract signed with the Sox? My comment also or question on why he can't stick is really in some amazement on my part on the fact the guy is a real decent hurler yet seems to get traded
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) so basically the cubs are saying "Take bradley and his contract, plus pay the difference in the contract split in half(43 million)"? I cant see the Blue Jays going for that, they dont have a lot of money to be just throwing around Agreed. Isn't that one of the reasons they let Ros go for nothing in return
  13. From Phil Rogers Article Today: The Braves are expected to shop Javier Vazquez after signing Tim Hudson to a three-year contract extension What can't this guy stick?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) What the hell do you consider Josh Fields? I don't
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) The first part for sure, the second part maybe. Dye is a great individual to have on a team. I also think JD knows that the present option at $12M is unrealistic and he said he would be willing to give a hometown discount. But, let's not insult the fella either.
  16. Mark's a pretty good fielder and has one of the best pick off moves in baseball so I think he deserved this
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 02:25 AM) I'm guessing Kal was being facetious, but as long as we're going there, Matt Thornton, anyone? We traded non-performance so that's different
  18. Why don't we just try and develop our own players from the system instead of trading for every non-performing prospect of any othr org?
  19. I may be wrong and things do change for sure, but it just seems to me that the Sox are sticking with G Beckham at 3B A Ramirez at SS Chris Getz at 2B P Konerko at 1B Another year of experience may help improve the defense and we don't spend money the team may very well not have
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Why would you assume that a player can only teach the way they did it? Interesting question and observation. We have heard the same thing said of the Big Hurt
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) I imagine quite of these quotes are taken out of order, and that the firing quote came right in the middle of it. Not that it matters a ton, just that I imagine that's probably how it happened. And it is also Cowley trying to start s*** up. He likes doing that, even if this is newsworthy. I do think Walker has worn out his welcome, but he is going to be apart of the equation next year, and I do imagine he will be on the hot seat. I feel strongly both ways about this issue and so it seems you do do Can't blame Cowley for writing a story about the issue we have been debating here on Soxtalk for quite awhile now
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...p;vkey=news_cws I hope he does come back. He had a rough half yer and we are ready to bury him? Makes no sense to me. I think Mark Buerhle had a rought half year to end the season too
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) I find it shocking that Orlando Hudson's name has yet to be mentioned or maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention. I hope we don't go through that again. He lost his starting job and we have a need for him?
  24. $60M is crazy talk. Muy Loco Hombre!
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Supposedly his wife is really hot. former wife maybe?
