  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) A lot of people are going to take what JR said he wrong way. He's not saying we're not going to make any moves, he's just saying we already made our biggest commitment to Peavy. I think I understand that. I expect we made our moves in 2009 to set ourselves up for a run in 2010. If we look at bargains it might include bringing back Thome and going after some bullpen help, but we will see.
  2. I just hope this translates into more Sox games on WGN in 2010
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) Helping the Sox win matters more, and if he ends up doing some DHing during the season to do that, then by god that's what is going to happen. Not if you look at the big picture. Floewers is not needed at DH as we have other possible options who are better suited for that job. Flowers needs to learn to catch and step in when AJ is gone and you don't do that in the DH spot
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) If Flowers is traded it really puts the Sox in a spot. They bring in Blanco and then they risk severing the relationship with AJ. As things stand now, I bet AJ would back for a series of short term cheaper deals........it would just have to guarantee him playing time. It's the same deal if they keep Flowers though. AJ would be gone after this year, I'd bet I don't understand the concern about AJ. Blanco and any back up catcher signed would be just that a back up. We have always had a back up for AJ
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) That's the rub. Flowers needs to catch to get better. With AJP behind the plate, unless he gets hurt, and he's never been on the DL, he's going to catch 120-130 games. That would pretty much be a wasted year for Flowers if the Sox view him as a catcher down the road. Its a pretty rough decision, but if AJP were to go down, Flowers would leapfrog Blanco. I was hoping Blanco signed last year. He may have one more year left in him. Exactly and AJ will catch at least 125 plus games in 2010. Doesn't give Flowesr much seasoning. I also completely disagree with him being the DH as that doesn't do a thing for his catching ability
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) As a journalism major from a top 3 program, I can assure you there was nothing I learned that I couldn't have after one week on the job. And sports journalism, hoo man, they are just a joke. But, they get paid good money for doing something fun. I want to be a Sports Journalist too
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) This only makes sense if we don't expect Flowers with this organization in the near future. Tyler Flowers should get more seasoning at AAA next year so this, or any back up catcher, makes sense
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) AJ has been the best leader by example through his preparation and his continuous will to win. There is no player on the Sox that has given more effort to this team over the last several years than AJ. He is the least of our worries. I like this post. Additionally AJ wants to play. Who can blame him or any other good player? I just can't see Flowers being brought up to the bigs and then sit for the most part. He should probably start at AAA. I haven't seen him in many games at all at the big league level where he caught. AJ is the type of player who never gives up and wants to win all the time. You need that fire on the team. I really believe the Sox sign a second string cathcer.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) He's a better defender than Rios, Buehrle? Yeah, he's a solid 1b, but it's not like we're picking up omar vizquel in his prime here, come on. Paul Konerko is not finished nor is he a mediocre fielder IMO. I think Kalapse is just being too criitical agin of one our guys. Heck by the time some get done evaluating our players you wonder how we managed not to finish 7th in a 6 team division.
  10. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 12:14 AM) He had a bounce back year, but after that '08 slump - you're pretty much at best going to dump that contract for middling prospects, or do some kind of lateral move where maybe you get a slightly better guy on a more problematic contract. I can't agree
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) That's ignorant as hell. Adrian Gonzalez had a fantastic season last year and the rest of the s***ty players on the Padres major league team carried them to a last place finish. The point I was making is that we are frothing at the mouth to give up our talent including PK for one guy thinking he is our savior. That's ignorant in my opinion. There hasn't been one mention that I read about what LAA is supposed to throw in this deal, which makes me believe if you can believe this three-way trade rumor is why they would even be involved? Is there any mention of this rumor on a LAA post site? Or for that amtter a SD site?
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Konerko has almost no value at this point, he'll provide you decent production from the first base position (right around league average if you're lucky) while making nearly twice as much as he should. Konerko has no value? Whoa there now
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) And this is exactly what MLB gets for being so cloak and dagger about their drug testing. NO one has a clear name. True, but they brought it on themselves don't you think?
  14. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) My read on how we stand for 2010 season: We are standing with a mayyybe better staff than we had in 2005, and a way worse offense. You have to deal from a strength to get better. If you move Floyd, a little money is saved along the way which you can put back into the pile you can play with. Yes, but it doesn't do you any good to weaken one strength to strengthen a weak area
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Yep, unlikely i'll admit, but so is Adrian Gonzalez being a White Sox. Which one is most unlikely. I am thinking the Cuban fireballer
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Yeah, even the guys who don't like giving up young players (i.e. me) would do it with Hudson as a starting point. It's giving up all of our top 4-5 guys that would trouble me. Why are we to ones giivng up all the talent? Whay aren't we talking LAA prospects here? Konerko is no thrown in/out to any deal and LAA has to give up something.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:47 PM) Signing Chapman to be our second lefty and to step into the 5 starter role after Fat Freddy is gone would be the ultimate coup. Hell, sign Leslie Anderson too and we might as well close up shop for the offseason. Are you talking the Cuban Chapman here?
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) I'd like to keep Danksy and Flowers, but beggers can't be choosers. Especially, when we're begging for Adrian Gonzalez. That man can carry our franchise for the next decade. He carried SD too right to the bottom of the heap. One player isn't going to make our trip to the promise land especially if you trade away your prospects or top of the line pitchers
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) All of a sudden you're committing over $72M to 9 players in 2010 (this includes Viciedo), about $75.5M to 10 if you pick up Thornton's option, then you have to pay Danks, Quentin and Pena a substantial sum in their second year of Arbitration, if Jenks is still around he'll be making about $10M in his final year of ARB and Theahen maybe $6M in his final year and you have to go find a catcher since Flowers is now on the Padres and Pierzynski's contract is up and he's in his mid 30's. Maybe a Sox prospect going to SD or LAA is Viciedo?
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) The option is for 2011. He'd be under team control for 2 seasons. And then gone for sure
  21. I cringe everytime we talk about Sox prospects being dealt.
  22. He gets pretty excited after three games of playig time. But, we heard before that maybe Viciedo is better suited for 1B or DH. DV made a lot of errors, but of course experience may change that. The Sox can't see Teahan as the long-long term fix at 3B can they?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) More fascinating stats...while both had a single down year (Rios last year, Crawford in 2008)...if you take a look at their OPS+ numbers, Rios has 2 seasons, 2006 and 2007, that are better than any season Crawford has put up offensively. His kinda down year in 2008 where he put up a 112 OPS+...that would be a pretty good year for Crawford. And Rios is more than likely a better CF to boot. We get the player Toronto had...and that's more production than you'd get from Crawford for less money. That is interesting to say the least
  24. If Tampa Bay picked him up they ain't going to let him go just yet and all this is probbaly idle speculation on the part of some beat writer in TB.
