QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 05:37 AM) He dealt with bone spurs in his elbow all year and therefore sucked. I'm still somewhat surprised, given his performance, that he never had surgery. He may well have dealt with it this offseason for all I know. He's no longer on the "Could help right now" list, but it's health that is keeping him from beign on that list, maybe not talent. Do you think he still might be a possibility or is he done?

Garfien reports Sox might "revisit" a Thome return

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I'm ready to move on as well. I don't like the idea of having a player on the roster whose primary position is DH. Where have you been for the past 35 to 40 years? -
QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) Offer Dotel arbitration and sign Thome dirt cheap. I would take both back. What is Joe Crede doing?

Wait for bargains. Read Bill Veecks book and learn how to build a team with no money

QUOTE (tommy @ Nov 13, 2009 -> 08:40 PM) What a mistake he was, I hate that Swisher trade. Even though some would argue I agree with you. Maybe Swisher needed to be traded but THE trade we made with NY was a bust at least so far.

I broke the news in the Diamond Club yesterday, but I forgive you

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) Wow... Say hello to your new yankees center fielder. I'd love to have him though. Yankees for sure

With all of the Flowers trade talk, ..... just wondering

QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Just look in all of the Gonzales / Votto / Halladay / etc. threads purely baseless and idle speculation is what you are saying then -
The Sox and Royals smooch fest continues. Now KC is going to sign Wilson Betemit. I think we may get the better end of that deal

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) The post that sparked that response was talking about JD, not Pods. I like J Dye too

Danks and Floyd "highly unlikely" to be dealt
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) That's funny right there. But, really why trade away our strength. The way the offense is shaping up it will be pitching in 2010 or nothing -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:45 AM) Should be a glut of relievers on the free agent market and $7-7.5 mil for Jenks through arbitration is steep so non-tendering him is a possibility. So everybody what's coming ? My guess is he stays a Sox

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) YES. YES. YES. This is the kind of player that would totally excite me and would make me totally excited about our chances. Grandy in center; Rios in right. I'd even be willing to part with a good player like Bobby to get Grandy. Prove we can trade with other teams besides the Royals, Kenny. Give them a good player or two and get Grandy. We can't diss the KC system like that and actually get an impact player from another club

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) The new york post thinks everyone is available. Only to the yankees it seems. I hear money is an issue with clubs nowadays

Joe Crede is the man IMO and hopefully his back problems don't signal the end of his career
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) If AJ doesn't want to teach Flowers then bring in a veteran backup and ship Flowers' roidy ass out of here. AJ is da bomb. I might not go that far but I do like AJ

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 01:53 AM) Was he not healthy in the 2nd half? And how exactly did he save us in 2009? .793 OPS on the season, 103 OPS+. He was, overall, an average OF with the bat and pretty darn rotten with the glove. Sox management also said he saved us. If you don't like Pods fine, but I think he is a good ballplayer and we coud do worse then bringing him back.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 12:46 AM) I heard the Cardinals may have some interest in Dye if they can't sign Holliday. Dye is a player who certainly can be and will be in demand
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 12:40 AM) If he doesn't want a nearly full time DH slot, then he just doesn't fit on this team. I think he would fit in well with the DH role and rotate as needed in the OF. People disparage him, but he saved us in 2009 IMO. When healthy he is avery good ball player

Talks may be heating up again with Scott Podsednik according to the Sun-Times. Earlier it was reported they had tanked, but not now

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 12:19 AM) And probably the best decision economically. I seem to reember beinfg told by management that they would spend what had to be spent to win. I do believe that folks like Dye and Thome might be brought back at less and maybe that's a good thing. If we are trying to mold this club into something different I am not sure it's the best yet. We have let go a lot of positive clubhouse presence and talent and I am yet to see what appears to be a good result. If we continue to dump veterans who perform, but now are arbitration eligible or their contracts are up for negotiation you want to see someone capable of filling their shoes be brought in. Early yet maybe, but maybe this is what has occurred because of the economy and failing to win in 2009

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) Please no. As much as I believe in getting some guys that hit doubles and can go 1st to 3rd...that offense would be rancid, even in the NL. The Sox will need to get at least one guy that can hit homeruns to either play DH, RF or 3B, preferably 2 guys. Despite his need for speed...KW has to know they need some pop in the lineup to win. We have allowed our home run hitters to walk. We have a ballpark designed for a power hitting club and we seem to be going to other way. They one in 2005 with some power and in 2008 but now he are sacrificing power and defense from what I can tell.
-
If some of the more questionable moves fail to materialize into something positive for the Sox then what will be the excuse next year? The one thing that bothers me is how we continue to pursue a player for several years or so we hear from KW so hopefuly we arent so fixated on someone we get a bad fit or a player on the decline. Plus we seem way to enamored by players from another team and not from our own system.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) What do you think the chances are the PK gets moved this off season? Omar Minaya has come out and said he wants a run producing 1B. Well, PK is a run producing 1B, money is no issue for the Mets, and he and KW seem to have a pretty good relationship. Williams has said he'd like a LH bat. How about PK and Jenks packaged around a deal for Daniel Murphy and Fernando Martinez? That would free up alot of money from the Sox side of things and the Mets would get their 1B and a guy to replace Putz in the bullpen. I don't know what the Mets think of Martinez these days because of injuries and he hit under .200 this year but he was an elite propsect. The Sox could then use the freed up money to acquire a guy like Dunn or another power hitter that the lineup would need. Unlikely.

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) Pudge is out, he is a Boras guy. Kendall would be alright. Possibly. But, I wouldn't be so sure that Flowers will be here as a back up as some suggest and also Pudge likes Ozzie so that could play into it. However, AJ plays alot and deserves it so maybe Kendall is more likely as the second catcher
