QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) The Tribune is reporting that he'll be heatlhy by spring training. Still, shoulder injuries can really impact your career. They effect your swing and can easily be re-injured. Hopefully he's done all of the necessary strength and conditioning training. Ptac, what type of concerns would there be for re-injury and is this a type of injury that someone can fully recover from (baseball wise) or will it always hinder him to an extent? Coco said that and I wouldn't expect him to say otherwise even if he wasn't

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) ill take crisp, atleast he can catch the ball and wont get picked off 20 times He needs to get on base first. Podsednik hit at a better average and is healthy. Crisp had both shoulders worked on and we don't know if he will be or can stay healthy for the year. His skills have diminished the last couple seasons. If he wants to come to Chicago let him go to the Cubs

Gammons to MLB.Com. I called it right I guess. I love that network during the season

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 01:21 AM) Just imagine all the pun potential if we acquired him. Leave it to you!

Sox interest seems to be directed at Matsui. I like Jim Thome, but Matsui would give is more flexibility. Hopefully he is able to rebound from knee troubles. If we were to sign Matsui would it solve two problems? DH and the OF? I am guessing not and that Pods is still a possibility for an OF spot.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) I am actually shocked that Ozzie said Quentin for RF. If he''s anything like he was in Zona a couple years back and in the minors/college, our OF will be greatly improved defensively with Rios in CF and Q in RF. That had been mentioned before, but I don't remember if it was if we got Figgins or someone else in a trade and put them in LF

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Tim Dierkes also posts at the mlbtraderumors forums. I heard the same about Peter from my brother(huge Red Sox fan) who has a decent Red Sox source. Did he think Gammons might jump to MLB-TV?

Peter Gammons To Leave ESPN By Tim Dierkes [December 8, 2009 at 2:08pm CST] Surprising press release today: legendary journalist Peter Gammons will leave ESPN to pursue other endeavors after the Winter Meetings. Hopefully Gammons will continue writing for another outlet.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) If they threw in Cindy Crawford circa 1992 then I'd be all for it. Now I know who Cindy Crawford is (let Kalapse know)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Not bad really. If he settles into a position and hits for some Joe Crede-ish numbers, that is solid and cost certain. Apparently he is set with the Sox for awhile then. I will be looking forward to seeing him nxt year at 3B and comparing him to my hero Joe Crede

My feeling is that there were "discussions" as is rumored, but we all know what that might mean. They discussed it and said no or let's move on to something else. There is always the posibility of someone gettiong moved in a trade, but I am leaning towards the Sox bring back Pods. The DH is anyone's guess as well as bullpen help, but that might come later with free agent bargains, if any still exist.

I wouldn't like the trade, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility either

Ozzie to speak on Baseball Tonight ESPN2 during the 5 ET show
elrockinMT replied to MiddleCoastBias's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can you understand him? -
Tito said: "Definitely. Someone put this one up for that vote crap we do here." and I reply of behalf of all of us wannabe managers and Sox GM 's: Everything we post here including votes must have some positive influence on the Sox run at a MLB championship. "Crap" you say? maybe some massive BS, but not "crap" I tell you. You are talking to folks that are very well qualified to make decisions on the baseball future of this club and except for some fluke decision by Jerry Reinsdorf we were passed over for GM.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) I wouldnt want the guy on my team if he didn't want to be a starter. You do want to see some fire, but I am not sure Jones has much left beyond a back up role do you?
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) Throwing out the idea of Jones starting strikes me as more "Pods, we're ready to move on without ya, Buddy, one way or the other" public posturing in order to get Pods to bring down his current contract demands. Somewhat similar to the leaking of the interest in Coco Crisp a couple of weeks ago. This will probably play out for a little while longer, but I think at the end of the day, we'll have Pods back at lead-off and strictly in left field, with Jones serving as the 4th outfielder and part time DH against certain lefthanders. That is based on a not-too-far-out assumption that someone in the Thome/Matsui mode will eventually be brought in to be the DH. I am leaning that way. Pods is still an option for the Sox I think, but they want him to be realistic about his price tag

Andruw Jones says he wants to compete for a starting job on the Sox. KW got him for bench help. Now the suggestion is he might be a starter in 2010 if he reports to camp in shape. What does that say about our OF? Did Andruw fail to report the last 2 or so seasons in shape and that's why he couldn't hit above .220? Is his stating even a realsitic option? Or is he a role player as has been suggested? Some might think the Sox are really desperate if Jones ends up being a starting OF'er. Is Danks a beter option? Pods being resigned better?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 6, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Why is that so hard to believe? Thome is from the Peoria area What do Illinois people consider a ranch is my point/question-I know JT lives or is from the Peoria area
-
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Canton isn't that far from Bartonville, which I believe is where Thome's parents live. When I lived in Peoria, I ran into Thome once or twice at local pubs, so the story has some face validity. OK
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) I believe Thome owns a hunting ranch in the area and both are avid hunters. They could have shot a couple of deer then go to the meetings. They have ranches in Illinois? Now out here I would believe it, but Illinois?
-
QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) I get a text last night from a friend visiting another friend in Canton, Il. " I walk into this dive bar and Jim Thome and Jermaine Dye are here chillin. There's only like 20 people here. A bunch of hillbilly chicks were hitting on em. They got two of the girls to make out because of who they were. Maybe they'll get even more lucky and get inked during the meetings? It must have been hilarious to see JD and Thome in a run of the mill bar in Canton, IL randomly. Only my own guess here, but if JD and JT are planning on going to Indy for the Winter Meetings they had better hurry as they are on the wrong side of Illinois. Maybe it's that cheap liquor in Canton?

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) make out with who? each other? Do you believe that story?

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Dec 5, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Even though they don't officially start until Monday (7th), I would assume most organizations are starting to show up this weekend. Hopefully to get a headstart on some negotiations. Who are the first teams to make a deal (ie, trade)? KW flies under the radar and probably won't show up till Thursday morning

Seattle ahead of the pack for Figgins?
elrockinMT replied to Princess Dye's topic in The Diamond Club
Possible Seattle offer to Figgins is 4 years at $36M -
My guess is Padilla won't be signing with the Sox simply because they seemed to like Freddie Garcia. Padilla won't be looking at a long relief role or anything IMO
