QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) "The whole season rides on the pen, assuming the other high risk (Peavy, Rios, Pierre) moves all pan out, and betting on a pig and a Putz is as high risk as it gets." Beaver I like that quote. Seriously, Jenks needs to get in better shape if that's actually what is causing his back problems AND loss of velocity. If there's another reason (besides weight) causing the back and hip problems (congenital defect, etc.) I would be happy to hear about it. They aren't trading Jenks and Putz is the set up man and knows it. But he can be used to close if needed. I think previous ad naseum articles suggest Jenks is working hard to get into the best physical shape. The author of this article is revisiting a closed issue IMO

Why do we think Flowesr will be traded? I haven't picked up that vibe at all. I think they want Tyler Flowers playing daily at AAA to hone those catching skills.

Mark said he had health issues- he must have had one heck of a cold

Mark Buehrle's perfect game on MLB Network
elrockinMT replied to MexSoxFan#1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I watched it. It was the first time I got to see it and it was fun. I was on my way in July to a fishing week in the Montana mountains near Yellowstone Park and we had stopped at a pub in Bozeman, MT, for lunch and the game was on in the bar. Guys were hooting and hollring when Wise made that catch and I had to go see what game they were watching. I had my Sox hat on and they all had to tell me about it. Nobody there knew much about DWise. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) I think Getz is going to be a legitimately solid player. Good OBP, probably hit closer to .300 than he did this year, steal a good number of bases. I agree with you on the Getz evaluation. Remember all the Sox management hype aout him being just the kind of player the Sox needed and wanted? He performed well and with more major league experience I thik he will be a very solid part of any team.

Pods did a good job for the Sox. Why we didn't want him may never really be known except to the management. We went after Piere and gave up some minor league talent for a guy that I guess was expendable in LA because of Manny. There is ahuge cost in dollars to the Sox that we wouldn't have had to absorb with Pods. Offesively it seems Pierre and Pods are about the same. I don't see any obvious difference between them defensively although we have some here that believe Pierre is better. I just don't buy into that. I do know that Pierre is another one of those players that KW has had his eye on for years and now he has him albeit older than his heyday period. I am sometimes confused by what I see from Kenny Williams. At this point what is done is done and all we can do is hope for the best

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Really? You'd have a problem with him turning into a 1b? I was going to ask this question also. Why is this a problem? If he can contribute offensively and can field the ball I am happy to have him fill that spot. I guess 1B is not as sexy as 3B?

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) yeah I agree, I should have added more to my post by saying there is little to no chance that the MLB players union would agree to a hard cap and something like this would be more likely, although I agree unlikely. Most likley this is true and it's really for the benefit of a few super players. But once the teams refuse to pay they get slammed as colluding

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) I doubt Pujols will become a free agent next year. Yankmee money is a strong lure and there seems to be a lot of it. That money should really be the main issue when discussing competitve balance

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 01:56 AM) and nowhere did I say you were not entitled to your opinion, I was actually responding to you criticizing those who you feel undervalue the worth of the players on the team, hence my "street goes both ways" statement. So we are headed for a head on collision?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Im sorry elrockinMT, what we see with you is that you far overvalue our own players to the point of ignoring diminishing results and injuries. This street goes both ways man I respect your opinion but disagree with it What I said about stats the same can be applied to people looking at players and saying their are oft injured and thus no longer productive, age is catching up with them and so on and so forth. I don't think PK's stats are bad at all and the leadership he brings to the team most likely can't be measured in a stats book. I think the individual in question, or individuals, can get alot out of the talent they have when you play as a team. You can't find that team spirit or focus in a stat book. Once again you win and lose as a team and not as an individual. Replacing the leadership that we have had shown to us by not only PK, but others past and present is going to be difficult. If you don't like PK, or think he or someone else is going to be an effective offensive force you tell me who you would think would do better and then how are you going to acquire them? We have a solid player here in Konerko and to say he is mediocre is just not what I see in the guy. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it just as you are to yours.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) I should re-phrase it, it seems a lot of people here are satisfied the Sox DH is Jones/Kotsay and wouldn't mind if that's how it turned out. Don't count me in that group. However, I won't say at this point that the rotation of players in and out of the DH role as Ozzie mentioned is all bad, but I would like to see one productive and proven player there. I am a believer that all players have roles on the team and messing too much with that might put that player or players in a position of being set up for failure
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) Why would you do that? If Konerko (and most other 1st basemen for that matter) could play anywhere else on the field, they most likely would. A 1st baseman is held to a higher offensive standard than other positions because of the high amount of players who can play it adequately. It takes a team to win and not one person.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) All the guy wrote was that one of his New Year's wishes was that Peavy and Rios justify the White Sox big investment in them. I think we all have that wish. My point too
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) I'm not sure what you don't understand. Look at Konerko's production in the last three years. In comparison to other first basemen in baseball, those numbers seem rather mediocre or maybe worse. You can bend stas anyway you want. What I see far to often is simply an attitude of bashing our own players, undervaluing them and some vague sense that the grass must be greener at someone else's ball field. Stats don't tell the whole story

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,809746.column insinuates that Peavy in this article has to go a ways to justify what he's paid. As if the whole Cy Young thing never happened. And honestly it's not out of this world $ compared to what staff aces get now. Meanwhile he contrasts this with Buehrle and Konerko having paid their dues to earn what they make. And Peavy hasnt. What? Konerko especially is overpaid at this point in his career. A very generic level of production from the 1B spot. Why are folks so anti--Sox veterans? Generic production from Konerko? I have to disagree. And Peavy does have to show us what he has and do it for a full year. I think he can, but we need to see it

I think he is still waiting out the market

QUOTE (striker @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) If Hudson and/or Torres do well in spring, would you deal Floyd to open a spot for them, if it mean bringing back a stud hitter like Gonzalez or Fielder? No. You never have enough pitching. Plus we usually end up trading our prospcts away for some guy that KW has "had his eye on for years." I would like to see that stop and us promote from within

Freddie always has had good movement. That and location and mixing them up makes Freddie a good pitcher. He is a very slow and deliberate worker on the mound and couldn't be anymore opposite of MB in that regards, but I think it's good to have the variation in your staff

Maybe Billy Koch and Jose Paniagua would m ake mine. I will have to think about this one for awhile adn get more posting credits as I add them one by one

People metion Quentin's injuries, but didn't complain when he was hitting 36 homers with 100 RBI's. He will be back to full strength in 2010 and folks will be happy again

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) With the Angles I believe in 2005 Oh now I see. They have him winning one with the Sox. Or maybe they think it was the Cubs? Who is their fact checker?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Colon won the Cy Young in 2005...? With the Angles I believe in 2005
