QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 05:51 AM) Oh I agree completely. I think Williams does too. I think Thome ends up on the team before Spring Training starts. My guess is the Twins

Hello and welcome The team chemistry could change for sure.I think that issue is an important one, but you have to believe all are professionals and will gell by opening day

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) .290 AAA hitter, isnt horribly bad. No but he wasn't good at the major league level and when he played for the Sox

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Look at his numbers. Javy V is a great pitcher. He was great for the Sox too. Just becasue he pisses himself in big moments, doesn't make him less great, it makes him a s***ty big-game pitcher. He's going to be incredible as a 3-4 option for the Yankees. I wouldn't call him "great" but he is avery good pitcher and a great pick up for the yankees -
How many lefty hitters are we going to sign?

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) I can't believe the Yankees would go down that road again. They will get a very good pitcher, if it goes through -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) And I said then...if that was true, then KW ought to have lost his job, because everyone here knew that it was highly likely the Jays would just let him walk, and a message board shouldn't know more about MLB than a GM. I agree with this statement. I really don't think the trade is a mystery by any means. KW has long wanted Rios for some reason and we go through this same scenario on occassion. The mystery is why KW gets so stuck on someone and can't shake it until he finally acquires the player years later. Rios' contract is exorbitant, but w can always hope he gets it turned around here in Chitown and performs like they say he is capable

I think Joe Crede would be a great pick up, but then that's just me

Reports are that Bradley is headed for Seattle for Carlos Silva

Freddy Garcia vs. Daniel Hudson vs. other options
elrockinMT replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) 12 would be a stretch. 15 would mean the Sox ran away with the division. Your point being -
Word is that the Yankees might sign Nick J

Freddy Garcia vs. Daniel Hudson vs. other options
elrockinMT replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Personally, I really don't feel comfortable with Garcia at all. He did far better than I expected him to last year, but should we really depend on him for much of anything? Typically teams don't have a 5th starter they're comfortable with, so if he comes out with a high fours ERA maybe it wouldn't be so bad considering he's our 5th. But do you think that Huddy would do better as a starter if he's still on the team in 2010? Personally I'd rather see Hudson than Garcia, if he's on the team I don't really want him to be a reliever. What do you guys think? We really don't have any other minor league options that are realistic as a MLB starter. Mark I really thjink you are worrying to much. It's expereince versus youth. Hudson can learn this year and unless he gets traded as so many of our prospects do than he will most likely be starting in 2011. I really believe Garcia is good for 12-15 wins as the #5 starter -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) I personally have: Pierre Beckham Quentin Konerko Teahen Ramirez AJP Rios Kotsay/Jones/Vizquel And no, I certainly hope that isn't our opening day lineup, but based upon what the club currently has on the roster, that is what mine would be. Only debate in my eyes would be flipping Rios and Ramirez. Do you think Beckham might hit lower? Ozzie wants him to have RBI opportunities. I don't know who I would have hit second maybe Ramirez or Teahan?

So Who's the Next Long Rumored White Sox to come aboard?
elrockinMT replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) This has been the offseason of long rumored "to be traded/signed with the White Sox." First it was Omar Vizquel. Then Andruw Jones. Now it's Juan Pierre. Who's next of the yearly list? Exactly. We get them in their declining years and hope they have some gas left in the tank, but we have liked them for many years -
QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) It's an interesting notion, but isn't that Filling a Hole by Creating a Hole? I don't like TCQ's injury history, but that would still leave no real DH. I think we are committed to Quentin in the Sox OF. He has too much upside. I also forgot that besides the DH we still need a back up catcher. So is KW looking trade or free agent?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) I think you guys will end up waiting. The Sox aren't in any hurry at this point. They can afford to be very patient. In Kenny/Ozzie's eyes the club has one hole, the middle of the order, and he has a few months to plug that hole, so he can wait and get his guy at the right price. That doesn't mean Kenny is just sitting around and kicking the tires on DH's though, he'll always listen and always ask about guys and if he hears that a good player is available, you can bet your butt, Kenny will come knocking. Do you think patience just means waiting some of these free agents out and hope the price comes down? I ws surprised that we might pick up maybe a half of Pierre's bloated salary. Plus after the deal some site I read was specualting that Andruw Jones was the full-time DH now. I doubt that is going to happen.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) My guess is Vlad/Thome/Agon/Dunn... Thome or nothing sounds most likely for $$$ reasons. That's quite a guess

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) You should care about his ISO, just completely writing off extra base hits from the top is just ridiculous. A double from your leadoff man can go a long way. What happened in June? He put up a 1.000+ OPS in the first two months then fell off greatly in June, lost his starting job when Manny came back and put up his usual bad numbers as a part time player the rest of the way. I'm sure he will put up a decent average and because of that and his "intangibles" (like his league worst arm) he'll garner quite a bit of love from the fan base, driving me insane. I am not really a fan of this trade either. Apparently Pods desire to sign for two years or more sent the Sox in the this direction. I would have thought we would have saved money signing Pods, but all things being equal I reckon we have a lead off man now.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) Love to have him back. Can't afford him. Olivo has some upside to him I think. He can throw our runners and bats right, which will complement our #1 cathcer AJ

That must be our big splash at the Winter Meetings? Our ace had an eye exam

I just had to make this announcement in case we lose sight of things watching other teams pull deals off. We all need to stay focused I know and remember we have until April 2010 to make big moves and keep up with the contenders. We get antsy when we see other teams puling off major trades and we wait. Maybe the Rule V draft on Thursday will change things for us? Yeah right!

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 11:06 PM) Since 2006: Crisp: 83/102 in SB = 81% Pods: 94/135 in SB = 70% Since 2005 Crisp has been picked off 12 times, 22 in his career. 12 of the 22 were picked off caught stealing. (much more forgivable, usually going on first move.) In 2009 alone Pods was picked off 11 times, 53 in his career. 17 of the 53 were picked off caught stealing. There's a significant difference in base running, defense and price. There's no reason to believe that Crisp will only be "slightly" cheaper when all reports have Podsednik asking for a multi-year deal worth at least $6M annually. Crisp is going to get a very low base salary for 2010 since he's coming for 2 shoulder injuries. I would still prefer that money being spent by another team taking a chance on his health. We have criticized signing players in the past when they have injury issues, but now we forgive Crisp and ignore the healthy Pods? I don't agree with that at all.
-
QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) So, we'd have Rios, Crisp, Matsui, and Quentin battling for 3 spots? Matsui would be your main DH and play the OF for a couple days a week and Pods could play DH as needed also.

QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Ideally you get one of these two guys as a stop gap and Mitchell/Danks will be ready to fill that role in a year or two. That is a good point so if Pods is signed to a two-year contract, which is what he is looking for minimum, that still could work in our favor as we transition in some of our farm hands
