QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 02:45 AM) Dotel finished the year with a 0.78 WPA (Win Percentage Added) meaning in the end he helped more than he hurt. Just for reference Linebrink finished with a -1.92, Thornton a 3.21 and Jenks a 0.58 I would keep Dotel over Linebrink at this point. I don't know of many options out there and I am not convinced Hudson or Torres are ready ready. Both obvuiously have promise, but it's not a good idea to rush young pitchers.

Abreu to the Sox assumes that the Angels don't want him back. Why wouldn't they?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) I guess I dont understand why Thornton is perceived as the closer in waiting. I just dont see him translating well to the closers role, why mess with success of where he is today? I think he can be, but I also don't think the Sox want to really use him in that role. Your right to bring up messing with success becasue he has been a great set up guy in the 7th and 8th innings. That role is as important in my book as the closer. You have to get to that 9th inning guy first.

Rumor land is a fun thing isn't it? It is speculation only by folks who are arm chair GM's. Generally they are wrong, but it stirs up a lot of conversation.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) He wants to be a starter or closer.... He feels strongly both ways about that just as I do the move

What kind of question is this anyway? You have to question a Sox victory as being the best?

Miguel Cabrera got drunk with Sox players Friday night?

The more I hear about this the more I think it was actually a Twins conspiracy -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) That's the thing about Ramirez, as much as he probably pisses the Sox off with his sometimes questionable approach, they aren't going to get that production or potential for the price they pay him anywhere. He's staying where he's at. I thought at one point the Sox may look to move him, but that contract is too good to move, especially if the budget is going to be tight. And he is talented. In a perfect world of baseball we could have all-stars at every position and pay Yankee type money for them. I think the best approach is to build from within and keep what you have in place hoping that each year they improve. I think we will see improvement and reading some stories it seems Dayan Viciedo might be groomed as out 1Bman or DH. Question remains when he might be at the big league level?

QUOTE (rockren @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 05:42 AM) Complete speculation on my part here...but Colorado really intrigues me as potential trade partners for KW this off-season. I believe moving Beckham over to 2B has to be on the minds of WSox brass. Ian Stewart is unreal with his glove and Atkins trade value may make him an absolute steal at this point. This idea may give us something extra to watch for in the Colorado/Philly series at least. Beckham is our 3Bman. The infield will most likely be Beckham-Ramirez and Getz. I am banking on Konerko to be at 1B.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) I wonder, if guys from our team were somehow encouraging this...whether that might reflect badly around the league on our guys If true that would be sad -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) Jermaine was arguably the least valuable position player in the second half for a team that didn't hit or field worth a damn as they fell out of contention down the stretch, he's going to catch s*** for this as he should and you're just gonna have to learn how to deal with it. You are not necesarily right Kalapse. JD is not the reason this team lost in 2009

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) weird, but I think he'll be back I hope so. If you don't hit .400 and 50 plus homers a year it seem folks are quick to bury you here. Dye had a slump in the 2nd half of the year not unlike a number of others on this club either this year or in years past. He can rebound and hopefully it will be with the Sox and not someone else. I am not certain the free agent market is going to be an option for the Sox and I don't see anyone in our minor league system ready just yet to step in and be the force JD has been and can be. He was also willing to give this organization a hometown discount.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) Even after a bad season I hate the last day of the baseball season. It means the arctic winter starts... six months of no White Sox. Think Spring Training and it cuts it down to about 5 to 5 1/2 months

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) He did pitch in Comerica, which is a pretty big pitcher's park. The ball Guillen hit last night would have been a home run at the Cell. Still, Peavy was downright nasty, but he was still helped out by the ballpark. It also looks like he's a Tiger tamer. A good pitcher uses the ballpark to his advantage, but I saw nothing on Friday nite to sugest anything, but Jake Peavy outclassed the Tigers period!

Well the season winds down for the Sox and the off season should be interesting, but let's all get behind the tube and root for the Sox on Sunday. I was pleasently surprised to see ESPN broadcast the Friday game and I got to see Peavy slap those kitty-kats around. He is one great competitor.

Hey what's a few million here and there for a prospect? It is scary and sad at trhe same time how the Sox apparently evaluated talent
