  1. Two pitchers with 6+ ERA, two guys who can't hit ?
  2. I think the main reasons they signed DeJong are: 1. Hoped to flip him at deadline 2. Someone they wouldn't mind benching/moving/trading if Montgomery played well enough to get to MLB 3. Try to make sure they field a roster that wouldn't be historically bad Of course, it's hard to be too upset about the DeJong parts of the equation all things considered.
  3. Sox may be done now.
  4. The difference between his actual and expected production in '24 is not enough for me to strongly discount it in such a small sample size. Especially given his high pull rate this season, which tends to be a ticket for outperforming your expected stats.
  5. I'm not too mad about how this worked out, but part of the reason I wasn't enthused about DeJong is I never thought the signing had much more upside than this. He has never been a great player, he has flaws and continued to have those limitations in spite of rebuilding his value with the Sox. I'm not sure who else was out there and how they turned out, but my preferred reclamation projects are guys with something a little more substantial to reclaim
  6. Colas didn't have near the level of consensus that Vargas had from evaluators and also has little track record of good play. Colas has only tanked his value since his high watermark in the rankings. Vargas had a tough run in MLB, then killed AAA pitching, and has held his own in a second cup of coffee in MLB. And is younger with more positional versatility and by all accounts, doesn't have s%*# for brains like Colas.
  7. I assume Rosado had an injury shortly after his signing and then flopped upon his return as a starter. Hard to complain about his debut as a reliever. Old for the level but has minimal experience so it's not like it's a guy who has needed 200 innings to solve low-A.
  8. Yeah it's hard for me to criticize honestly, I don't think DeJong had much value at all so just getting anyone who is not going to be imminently released for poor performance is fine with me.
  9. 22 year old righty reliever dominating low-A. Okay, whatever
  10. Feeling like we're about to get cash considerations at this point
  11. Maybe it will be a straight swap of the teams' starting shortstops??
  12. per Rosenthal https://x.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1818372833153565070 Jarold Rosado per DST
  13. Developmentally, losing the last month of the minor league season doesn't seem like the end of the world. But this does feel like a typically White Sox thing, though.
  14. Will be really surprised if DeJong is still on the team tonight, not that I could tell you which team would benefit from having him around.
  15. It's that White Sox Midas touch!
  16. James McCann (?)
  17. There's a certain age where it begins to interfere with me caring about control. So I'll say in general that I can't value the many years of control of a 27 year old very highly because of my concern that even if a player "turns out," he has high risk of collapsing by age 30 or so. Probably moreso for a hitter than pitcher although pitchers can imminently self-destruct regardless of age...
  18. What would you say to AJ Smith-Shawver, Nacho Alvarez Jr, Jose Perdomo?
  19. I think Getz would like Nacho Alvarez Jr.
  20. If you want to say Kopech was traded for the two 19 year olds, then holy crap what a deal, maybe Getz really knows what he's doing!
  21. I think the league clearly isn't seeing Fedde as a sure bet, Getz still could have probably at least gotten another player of the caliber of the two 19 year olds we received, and also that Vargas is the superior prospect out of Vargas/Norby/Stowers which likely relates to why Sox dealt with Dodgers rather than O's.
  22. I don't really like either of those guys over Vargas, but it's surprising that Rogers nets much value at all.
  23. You certainly have to hold out for a good return, but don't get cute either. Crochet is really a ticking time bomb and Sox won't have as much leverage in the offseason. Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good here.
  24. Jasson Dominguez would have been fun although the injuries are scary.
  25. For any who play MLB The Show, Vargas was once nearly the top ranked player in the world in its online multiplayer. I do remember hearing that he had engaged in a mild form of cheating to get there though, lol
