  1. Very disappointed to miss out on Smith.
  2. Gray goes 3. Here is where things begin to get interesting.
  3. I hope they continue giving each team's pick this much attention. I'd love to hear this much about our guy, even if he isn't there to do backflips
  4. Bryant is best player in the draft IMO. Sucks that the Cubs got him.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) It makes sense. Kaplan being wrong about the Cubs would be nice as well, although he doesn't bother me as much as he bothers some. He seems like a good guy. I think he's a good guy, he's just the worst homer.
  6. All I've been hearing is that Cubs want a pitcher because they are concerned about pitching depth in organization, which I think is a dumb reason to pick a pitcher. Gray is good though.
  7. I still think you're crazy to pass on Bryant.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) I understand what you are saying. I took your point the wrong way. Do you think Houston could "double dip" again though with talent and just roll the dice and take Gray/Appel and Manaea? It sounds like they will double dip by taking Gray or a guy like Moran for low $ and try to spend more on someone else, maybe Manaea. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) Man it is very very unlikely but Dominic Smith at #17 would be the best case scenario tonight. I didn't think the Sox had a chance at Hawkins last year and they got him though. I will keep my fingers crossed. I love Smith at that pick. A young, but advanced bat.
  9. I'm on the Dominic Smith bandwagon if we are to take a position player. I might like him more than any pitcher around at 17, too. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Two things would have to happen. They would have to get a number ahead of time that they could manage, while at the same time, finding some underslot guys for the next rounds to make up the difference. Right. Definitely takes homework, you cannot pick this guy without a lot of chatting in advance.
  10. The A's again? Sheesh, I've had enough of those guys.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Jake, it can be done though. Look at Houston last year. They took a lesser player at #1 in Carlos Correa. However, Correa is still a nice talent. Then they double dipped and took HS pitcher Lance McCullers who many thought would not sign. They could have taken Appel at #1. I would have taken Byron Buxton. But I understand what they did. It's a little different at the top of the draft, though. He signed for 4.8 million, which is a ton of money. That left them with 3 extra million! The slot value drops down to 3.5 million by the time you get to the 5th selection, already. Correa still got top 3 money, which is all he could have hoped for and the Astros got a ton of extra cash. For a team like the Sox in the mid-round or later, the bonus is only shrinking around 50-100K per selection, around 2 million dollars and shrinking. Hard to make space when you're that strapped for cash and a significant discount basically puts the draftee a round lower, rather than just a couple picks like Correa.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) The sox can't afford to pick a Borass guy who currently is waiting to under go surgery. They would be butchered for it. Obviously, Boras affects whether or not you want to pick him. To me, a fixable hip injury does not really affect my decision-making to any significant extent. Isn't Hahn our Boras-whisperer? FWIW, I'm not really thrilled with any of the guys likely to be around when we select.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) It depends on his demands. The new rules make it a lot tougher to take guys and pay them way over slot. Right. You'd basically have to take a second round type guy in the first to afford a first round type in the second. Hard to game this system.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) He'd still have been on the roster if the game had ended in 13 last night. This. He'd been looking better, pitching well two outings in a row. He isn't anything special at this point, but he didn't deserve a demotion. Just a casualty to the dead bullpen. Savvy move. I wanted us to bring up Johnson for today, give him all the relief innings, and then send him back down tomorrow and bring Troncoso.
  15. Omogrosso a victim of having pitched too much. He'll be back up eventually, but they wanted two fresh arms for today's game. Tough break for him. No surprises on the callups.
  16. A torn labrum in the hip sure wouldn't stop me from picking Manaea. That isn't that big of a deal.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) Hey look. Jake Peavy, yet again, gets hurt trying to be a tough guy. Heaven forbid he ever once fess up that he doesn't feel right. He did. He had already seen a doctor, they told him he could pitch if he felt okay.

    Dunn?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) In my opinion, an Adam Dunn type player needs to have an OPS close to .900. If they do that, I really don't care what the batting average is. Will Dunn ever do that again? Who knows. At this point I would just be happy to see him back around the .800 mark he was at last year. When a player starts a season like that, throw out the full season stats. We just have to think about how he is going to be, not how his April was.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) Finally on his way to the HoF. Took him awhile.
  20. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 07:19 PM) Who are we going to get to replace Peavey? We have to bring someone up. Is there anything left at Charlotte? We'll put Hector back in the rotation and call up a reliever from Charlotte and none of those seem like an obvious choice. For tomorrow, I would personally bring up Erik Johnson so you have someone to cover our ass if Quintana goes out early. I'd piggy back the start, with Johnson planning to get all the relief innings.
  21. The weird thing is I'm not sure if I've ever seen a more dominant inning from Addison
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) IMO the most amazing part of this game is 3 intentional walks to this version of Adam Dunn They're trying to dick up his hit streak
  23. Quintana should be the guy, but it seems like they're going to try to squeeze out another inning from Reed. If Q goes, Erik Johnson will start tomorrow with Peavy going to DL. Then we would send Johnson down and bring up a reliever by the next day.
  24. I know we love hating on Dunn, but Konerko has been worse this year and is far worse to watch. He doesn't even look like he's trying.
