I agree Jones should have been taken out, but "nobody else is fresh" is a weak excuse. You have someone ready so it doesn't get to that.
"Just the 7th inning" what the hell does that mean? We got blown out of the game in the 7th inning. Maybe if it was handled better it'd be 5-4 and we'd be within striking distance. You don't wait for the 8th and 9th innings to start making sound decisions.
That is how almost any manager would have played it. The issue is the player, not bullpen management. If you want a lefty to pitch to Hamilton and Jones is toast, you don't put in some other guy to also have the wrong matchup. Your LOOGY has to be able to pitch to a switch hitter and/or a righty between lefties. If he can't, he shouldn't be in the MLB
