    The Oscars

Django was the best, followed by Silver Linings. It seems Argo has the momentum and Lincoln's hype has died down. I was not fond of Zero Dark Thirty, at least as Best Picture material.
  2. It seems that this knocks Morel out of the picture, but Hahn wants us to believe that he'd be willing to DFA Gillaspie if Morel looks enough better in ST. I don't see how you could have both on the roster though, we have to have somebody that can play SS. Maybe Morel can survive at 2B, but not having a real utility guy hamstrings your ability to give guys a day off or make late game substitutions.
  3. I'd like Android to create an OS that isn't Chrome OS
  4. I am all about responsibility, but let's keep in mind one party is continually held responsible for the mistakes of two. One of the benefits of civilized society should be that you should be able to have sex as you please, provided the person(s) you do it with are consenting to it. No one likes to have abortions, even if it's "just a pill," so it isn't like people will intentionally shirk responsibility. s*** happens. And no...the right to guns is nothing like the right to have sex and control what comes in and out of your vagina.
  5. QUOTE (TomSeaverFan @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 07:34 PM) I have $1,117 dollars in my wallet right now. Does that make me certifiably insane? Being poor as a kid I've always wanted to carry a lot of cash around as an adult. I'm far from rich but I think I have some sort of mental illness that requires me carrying around a lot of cash. I wonder if there is a name for people like me. I call you "target 1"
  6. I would not amnesty Boozer. You don't get enough room under the cap to do anything big. You amnesty Boozer as Deng's contract expires after next season.
  7. All the thought towards the composition of the Bulls right now is based on one playoff series. Let's let it play out a bit. With our salary situation, it really doesn't make sense to try much of anything drastic until after next season anyway. Come onnnn D Rose
  8. LOL Hansen. What a dumbass. I hope they throw the book at him, Torres-style
  9. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 20, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Give me a list of tweaks you are running...the 4 and the 4S have ram limitations that 5 doesn't suffer from. There are probably a few tweaks you are running that are slowing you down. Activator biteSMS Bolt Browser Changer (don't know how this one works...) 10. Ever since jailbreaking my iPhone 4, it has been hopelessly slow. Suggestions as to what sorts of things to remove to speed it back up?

  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) Link. Either a desperate hail mary or something they found was actually effective when they tried it out. My parents saved about $250 on an AV receiver using the price match. No idea if Best Buy made any money on that purchase. We've bought from them whenever they have a decent price for a while now. On major electronics like TVs, nobody can have sales anymore so we choose them to keep them afloat.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) If you had to condense an 8k, 8 week training program into 7 weeks, which week can you skip? Or is there a different way to modify something like this? http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51095/8K-Training-Guide You can modify it. I would probably remove one of the weeks that is most redundant, particularly in terms of the long run day. I don't want to say which, because it depends on you. If you think that it will be a cinch to finish, etc. and are really training for time, you might want to cut one of the earlier weeks. If you are starting from a lower baseline, then you might cut out one of the later weeks with 4 miles. The key when you are going to cut is that you don't want to have to jump up the training intensity too much at any one time. If those weeks later in the schedule are basically harder than you've ever trained then I would say cut out the hardest week. If this is a deal where you actually want to have a competitive time, you'll cut out one of the easier weeks that wouldn't have done much for you in the first place.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) If they really wanted him, they would have made him an offer before free agency, like they did with Jake Peavy. Yeah, I think our FA with AJ is more similar to the one we had with Buehrle than anyone else. "If you want an offer, it's going to be too small"
  15. I'm having fun doing my runs every morning and not lifting for my upper body... but seriously. Getting up and doing 3+ mile runs 5 days out of the week is like crack. I have never been so outgoing and upbeat in my everyday life. I don't know that it is simply exercising that does it, maybe it's being outside, maybe it's jamming to music for 30 minutes while I run....but it is great. My rest days suck. Now I need to start getting more compression shorts so I don't have to wash mine every day. And socks that don't make me blister. And some anti-chafing lubricant. And probably need to start thinking about new shoes, but at least I got my last pair from a running store so they are suited for my stride style. The part that I'm not too close to, but seems completely crazy, is when these training manuals are telling me I'm supposed to wear a fanny pack on my 60+ minute runs to hold water and snacks. I just can't fathom wearing a fanny pack around.
  16. Have to hand it to Braun, it's a brilliant alibi
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 07:42 AM) If you want Headley, you better be ready to move Sale. Screw that, he could very easily become a league average hitter given his current track record. I would seriously restrict the amount of talent given up for him.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) How about the notion that the if the NBA recognizes that drafting high school players is too big of a risk, the teams figure that out themselves and stop doing it? Allow market forces to determine what the League or its teams are willing to bear financially and what they aren't. As for the barriers to entry, I completely agree with Badger. There is not one justification currently being made that can be at all supported by data to suggest this rule actually accomplishes anything. If the drafting of these kids hurts the overall quality of the League, like Badger said, allow the League and its teams to devise protections for that. Making an arbitrary rule which hurts individuals from gaining entry is placing the burden on those that are the least well-suited to bear it. Usually, the law requires that burden to be placed on the individual or entity in the best position to bear that burden, generally. The mere fact that an individual can simply sit at home and age a year and then be magically qualified to enter the League, whereas he was not before for some reason or another, is evidence enough of it's inequity. Great, maybe they should require that you play the entire time. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Its clear the rule benefits the NBA. The question is whether its in societies best interest to allow entities to create rules like this. Some people think yes, some people think no. For the majority of history discrimination was allowed in hiring. The question is whether age discrimination is something that also should be protected. Just curious, are you not fond of the age requirements to serve in some political offices? Perhaps we should strip minors of their protective rights and also give them the rights that we take from them because they are minors. Those are also very arbitrarily based but are based on a reasonable assumption of when someone can be ready. Another issue I have with these anti-age requirement arguments is the central assumption seems to be that not making as much money is the only factor. The income of the player is the only measure of whether the player has benefited or not. Leading them to education, even if they would not have chose it otherwise, even giving it to them for free, has no value. Whether the financial gain of going to the NBA at 18 will offset the potential lifestyle issues that arise from it is immaterial. Also curious. Do you not like jobs that require college degrees? Sometimes it isn't technical training so much as wanting proof that you can make it in the world. Show up to stuff on time, get your heart broken and not drop out, have someone offer you drugs and not have it ruin your life, etc.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) Successful college teams and interest in the NCAA allows scholarships to be given across all sports - women's/men's etc. Great point. BUT OH NO NERLENS NOEL WILL ONLY GO 5TH IN THE DRAFT INSTEAD OF 1ST OH NOOOO WHAT WILL HE DO WITH HIS LIFE?! Yeah, football and basketball pay for basically every other program and I am perfectly okay with that. Many schools have baseball on the chopping block now despite all that, and that's a sport that you CAN profit from if you become a perennial top 25 kind of program.
  20. First of all, the NBA and NFL can do whatever the hell they want. Likewise, the NBA has clearly benefited from this. Almost every player that comes in plays in the same league before they do. Playing college isn't as fun for the player as playing in the NBA, but it certainly benefits the best players when they get to keep proving that they are the best and you don't get stuck behind guys that seemed great in HIGH SCHOOL but turned out to be just that, great high school players. If these people are obsessed with getting the most dollars and getting it right away, someone has already mentioned Europe. If you're so f***ing great that the NBA has wronged you by not letting you be drafted before you prove yourself against better competition, go get paid in Europe and everything should work out. You said you could live with your parents till you're 19 if you want -- indeed, I'm curious how much that would help your draft stock. The NBA and NFL are requiring every applicant to demonstrate that they can compete at a higher level than high school ball (by actually doing it, not by being a great athlete), be durable, and prove that you can spend 1-3 years away from your parents without getting your ass arrested or otherwise in trouble.
  21. I have zero problem with it. It makes the hiring process more accurate and forces these guys to have something that resembles a real world experience before they're left on their own in the NBA. The NBA wants grown men and this makes you prove you can live without your parents for at least a year. As a human being, it benefits you immensely even if you do not graduate. If you get hurt, you're being paid to go to school so you'll still be better off than your average joe.
  22. It's irritating when every time the majority party wants to propose a change, it is unable to get voted on or even deliberated. Our president has to hoot and holler to get Americans to demand a vote from their Congress.

    2013 TV Thread

I'm taking an American TV course for school....and as I was forced to watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians, I realized the appeal of that show. It's plot structure is exactly like a soap opera. Also, one of those Kardashians literally pulled a baby out of her vagina. EDIT: Watch out, I'm posting a GIF from the birth
