  1. I think they've tried to cool off on praising Dayan. They realize he's here to stay and they don't want to build up too much pressure for him to be an amazing player. That said, I think they still have extremely high expectations for him. This will be the first year that he repeats at the same position since he's been in the organization and of course will be his second full time crack at the big leagues...and the first time wasn't so bad if you are looking at his ability to produce runs.
  2. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) It honestly doesn't feel that weird using the note 2 for calls. Maybe if you're a tiny person. As an average sized dude I'd say it's really not that big. It's the size of it vs the size of my face. I looked at it next to my face...and it didn't look right. I'm a 200 pound dude, but apparently my dome can't support a Note 2
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 13, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) here's an excellent example of why Politico (and 'fact-check' articles in general) are terrible http://wonkette.com/501294/politicos-super...me-a-fact-check Using a fact check article to bash fact check articles reminds me of Plato writing prose to dismiss written communication.
  4. The more I've thought about it, the more I want the S3/S4 over the Note 2/3. I think the Note is super cool, but that might be crossing a size threshold for me. Like others have mentioned, it'd be nice as a work phone. I could expect to take calls with it and just use a bluetooth device for calling and never have to put that big ass thing up to my ear. For personal use though, I only get calls every couple days or so. The rest is a little texting and then internet and app use. I don't want to have to put that freaking brick up by my face in public when I happen to receive a call. I want to go bigger than my iPhone (not that I really hate the iPhone, it's been very good to me), but for now I'm sticking with the pretty damn big S3/S4 for my next purchase. Others are just too big.
  5. Per a Santiago interview on 670 a few weeks ago...he had said "I'm not throwing a 70 pitch bullpen today to be a reliever" and he also talked about how it often takes him an inning to get a handle on his screwball, which is why he almost never tried to use it in the pen last year. Said he leaned on his changeup, which also got him in trouble. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) Or could it just be that he wanted more of a guarantee than 1 year? Maybe he wants a real vote of confidence. Had he turned down a 3 year extension, then I'd be more worried. As is, I could care less about that. Exactly. We make a little playoff run this year or next, he gets a 3 year extension. If not, they probably still give him a chance to extend it by a year.
  6. Who does Derrick/camp want us to trade? Trade for?
  7. From the information at hand, I will have lost some respect for Rose if he doesn't come back this season. I suppose more info could come forth, but it appears that would be a solely self-serving measure at this point. I work with the person that was the trainer at Memphis when he was there, and he insists that Derrick had a reputation as a "p****" when it came to injuries. I didn't buy it...but maybe? We'll see. Could be the media overplaying a statement.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) That is ridiculous and you know it. i am suggesting that this is Marks chosen profession, one that has paid him millions of dollars to play. Many of us miss school functions and kids moments due to work, it sucks but it is the way it goes. I dont feel bad for mark because he had an ideal situation with the Sox where he did have control of where he was traded with a limited NTC, as well as upper management that treated him very well, and he chose more money for lack of a NTC and to trust a untrustworthy businessman at his word. Unfortunately Mark got swindled by a businessman, but i dont feel bad for Mark because he is well compensated for it. My impression is that we never extended a contract offer to Mark, since we were not willing to come anywhere near market value at that juncture.
  9. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Pardon my ignorance on this but what do you mean by that? Reinjuring the knee he wrecked last year is what has me worried. It's rare to reinjure a surgically repaired knee? Looking at some research, the re-injury rate for ANYONE who gets ACL repair in the span of 5 or more years post-surgery is about 5%. Odds are already good, then consider that Derrick is a world class athlete with all kinds of resources and a far more vigorous rehabilitation than your average guy. Basketball isn't as unkind to ACL's as some other sports as well. From the looks of it, it seems that his chances of re-injury are about the same that he injured it the first time -- always possible, but not likely.
  10. I'm not worried about Derrick. Reinjury is almost unheard of at this point. It wouldn't blow my mind if he gets nicked up in other ways here and there from being out of playing shape, though.
  11. There has been a fair amount of research on violent video games and the findings are ALMOST nada. The one exception is people is with people who have signs of violent mental illness are more likely to display aggressive behavior...which feels like a "duh."
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) Mark could have held out for a no trade clause. He had a lawyer, Im sure that his lawyer advised him what a merger/integration clause means. I know what I tell my clients: "I dont care what he said, I dont care what he promised you, you see this clause right here, it says it doesnt matter." Baseball players are far more likely to believe in gentleman's agreements. Perhaps the time of that being okay has passed.
  13. Just another day in the 'Buster
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) Probably not, but supposedly he was told to his face he would not be traded. Yeah, this is the thing that bothers me. Mark seems like the type of guy that would give his word and mean it and I don't like see him getting burned by a lie. He was reportedly sold on "if we give you a NTC, then we won't be able to have leverage with future good players that might get you a ring" but then promised that he had a de facto NTC because they said so. When it comes down to it, his kids won't care how much money he makes when he doesn't see them for all that time. That's why I feel bad.
  15. I know that he's rich and everything, but Mark is a good guy and he gets kind of screwed here. I assume that the reports that he was "promised" not to be traded are true, and now he has to be apart from his family because the Marlins negotiated in bad faith. I wouldn't be shocked if Buehrle asks out of Toronto before long. Doesn't make much sense at this juncture, but I'd be happy to see him be a White Sox someday again.
  16. I feel better than ever about not getting Dwight. I am just not eager to take on a personality like that. At this point, I'm much happier to have Joakim Noah, especially with the price but perhaps regardless.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) I'm loving the story about Ron Paul calling on the United Nations to confiscate the domain names owned by his supporters. So many layers of hypocrisy in that one
  18. I guess this is important, according to all the Catholic folks I know. It certainly is strange that no other pope thought to leave the office as his capacity to perform it well declined. I suppose I'd like to see some more geographic diversity in that post, but I can't say I really care that much. It was cool that Benedict was multilingual, though.
  19. I'm happy for Morel to be healthy, but he hasn't earned a chance at the MLB level given the roster's current composition.
  20. Wtf Illinois? Are you good or not? My heart can't take much more of this.
  21. I wonder what Marco's role would be in that case. Marco is probably better at some things, but not enough to make up for that big thing JJ is good at. Neither are good on D. Jimmy looking to get minutes at that spot soon as well as Kirk. At least one of our 2's would have to go if we acquired JJ
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Rushing the court elitists continue to be the most annoying people in CBB. Good for Dakich for calling that idiocy out. Amen. I never want to hear about that again. Storm in every conference game for all I care.
  23. I also got the iPhone 4 the day it came out. I got two free replacements from Apple (don't ask me how I got that, connections brah) when I broke it -- both times in a case :| The funny thing is, I still don't feel like I've missed out on anything cool from the past two iPhone updates. I'm going to keep this baby until it gives out on me or one of the new Android releases coming soon really blows my mind like I'm hearing about.
  24. Pros/Cons of jailbreaking? I don't know much about it other than people telling me it jeopardized my warranty.
