    2013 Films Thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 2, 2013 -> 08:29 PM) Searching for Sugar Man has to be not only the best documentary of 2012, it's probably the best overall movie/entertainment of the year. Amazing story. Too strange to be true. I had watched War Witch and 5 Broken Cameras (another excellent documentary), but I've never seen one quite like Sugar Man....and, with all the controversy over Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln and Argo playing around with the truth and events being compressed, made up or overly dramatized, well, nobody could make up the Rodriguez story if they tried for 100 years. I'd argue that The Invisible War was more deserving for doing what the best documentaries do: affect change. The Invisible War leads to policy changes, even before opening
  2. Just don't see Morel having a spot on the team right now. He has much to prove and I'd like to see that happen in Charlotte.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 10:46 PM) hates them probably except Chief Blackhawk, I hope
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) Is Dewayne Wise better than Jordan Danks? Does he deserve the spot over Danks? I don't think so, but most posters on here would say Wise > Danks
  5. Can someone tell me what it means to be a knee pad?
  6. When I drive to Memphis on 55/57 (both interstates are equidistant for me, so I take 57 if the weather is decent and/or it is light out because I have to take 20 miles of two-lane roads to get to it)...I keep it at 70 until I get to Missouri, then I let it eat.
  7. Derrick can shut the f*** up. You're 24 years old and soon as we gave you a coach and a team, you choked in the Eastern Conference Finals with a lead against Miami. He has no idea what another year, a role player that fit better, or perhaps just better play on his end could have made all of the b****ing from his "people" moot. Just get healthy and shut up until your contract is up and see where you are then. We have Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, and Taj Gibson on market value or better contracts -- it would sure be nice to get guys below market value for the sake of our cap, but for now you have a damn solid supporting cast. Why can't you be MVP Derrick? MVP's win with a supporting cast this good. His memory seems so short since the last season he played healthy we had a legit shot to beat Miami and we lost it in a single playoff series...that series loss has defined our franchise to the fans and apparently to Derrick as well if we believe his people speak for him. Now I'm not hating, he only had one shot at it in the first year with a new coach and a big new face in the lineup and he himself has plenty of room for growth. I'm one that believes that this squad with Derrick could be able to win the Finals. With that said, he needs to look in the god damn mirror before he wants to start throwing his weight around to pressure the FO. You aren't LeBron, buddy.
  8. Considering they were unlikely to turn either of those into a decent QB, you can't be too upset about it. That team needs a serviceable QB
  9. I don't think money had much, if anything, to do with whether they brought AJ back. Eventually, you need good players under you control for the foreseeable future. AJ is old -- you'd be happy if he was still serviceable in 3 years. Flowers, due to age alone, could last you up to 10 years from today (the age we'd be super happy to see AJ still playing). You need that to develop a franchise...young guys, regardless of cost, that will be on your team for a long time. You can only buy back so many mid-30's year old players before the rug comes out from under you.
  10. Illinois only lost a single game in this conference one year, and it's because some bench player arsehole took PEDs or amphetamine salts or something
  11. I want a BHawks sweater, despite the fact I can't afford it and it is difficult for me to fathom a situation where I would wear it minus going to a hockey game.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) You have three options to choose from in the, hands down, best jersey set of any professional sports team. There is no need to select something other than what you see below. Choose wisely. Quick aside. I am STILL annoyed that the NHL switched to colors at home. I still think of the white jersey as the home sweater. Buy 'em before sensitive people make us the Chicago Fightin' Chicagoans!
  13. I think the shortened season should make this kind of streak more unlikely. The lack of preparation for the season should have made for more inconsistent play.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 07:43 PM) Any reason as to why he is sitting as to this point? IMO (which is based on second hand medical info), he is still in the window of "I'm taking my time because I don't want to come back out of playing shape and develop new injuries because I pushed it." However, I don't think that window extends another month into the season.
  15. The only thing I would trust is the BodyMedia line of products, and that's a fairly big investment when estimating will probably serve you just as well.

    The Oscars

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) She is so nasty. She just reeks of arrogance, I refuse to listen to her. I played Chris Rock's Oscar Monologue on my TV while she sang last night.
  17. It's completely deliberate on Derrick's part. I correspond with his college trainer and he said if he was at Memphis, he'd have been playing for at least a month. I don't mind him taking time, but he has no business taking the whole season off.
  18. I can never decide if I should be pleased that Gordon is working on things or be afraid that he will fall into a never-ending cycle of tweak-induced slumps.
  19. Also, I actually think much of the recent slide can be attributed to the loss of Hinrich. I love me some Nate Robinson, but there is a serious limit to how much that dude can play. He has to be employed selectively and without Kirk, he is applied indiscriminately and there is no hope that he can play an entire game and not f*** everything up. Kirk is a very flawed player, but he brings a steady hand to the offense and helps us at least rely on our most talented players to win and play a relatively smart game like the one we gameplan for. Nate can score some points and has won some games for us with his offense, but he just can't consistently get an offense to run and causes us to play a 4 man defense sans the occasional fast break blocked shot.
  20. Only two guys in double figures and they both chucked 14 shots apiece to get there. Glad I didn't bother watching that one. An offensive game like that would make the Fighting Illini blush.
  21. It will take time to see if Hahn loves this type of hitter or if he's just adding this kind of hitter because the team lacks them.
  22. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Feb 24, 2013 -> 12:01 AM) Jared Allen got blanked by Webb in 2 games this past year. Matthews has beat him but once again he received no help. Of course, but most Bear fans don't notice that. You never notice that linemen are doing their job.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) I've been saying for a couple years now that the Saints know how to make their guys look better. They give help on the corners, they are strong inside, their QB gets rid of the ball quickly, they run plays to keep the D-Line honest. They did everything they could to make a guy like Bushrod look good. The Bears didn't do any of that last year...Webb had some bad games, like when the Bears said he was matched up 1 on 1 against Clay Matthews, but he also had games where guys like Jared Allen shut down. He's sorta done what you'd expect so far, he's a 7th round pick thrust into a starting role. Started off terrible, has gradually moved up close to average. But...since he was terrible for 1+ years, most Bears fans still dislike him and he gets a ton of focus for the troubles of the rest of the O-line. On top of that, the Bears did everything they could to make him look bad...the LG next to him was cut in camp and replaced with a castaway (Rachal), and then the amount of help they gave him was ridiculously low. He's not going to wind up in the HOF, but he's exceptionally cheap next year, and the Bears might have bigger needs elsewhere on the O-line. I wouldn't be stunned or angry if Management dropped him into a swing tackle role, but I also won't be surprised if he's the starting LT next year. Yep. His reputation is mainly based on Aldon Smith and Jared Allen, guys he received no help against (Carimi too)
  24. Does anyone actually like Windows 8? It's an interesting concept and I think they're basically going in the direction that computing is heading, but the mobile-ish interface has got to get frustrating for certain tasks.
