I find it fairly unlikely that he could have gotten such a serious relationship with someone whose family he never met and whose online presence was apparently not her own. I can't fathom that anyone would have a girlfriend in college who only exists online and you've never met. A commenter wondered if this ends in him coming out of the closet. That seems plausible. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) Why don't you "vote with your feet" and move to one of those glorious, poverty-free, self-sufficient conservative-run states? Also plenty of people question poverty, the efficacy of existing programs and the possible need for new or different ones all the time. What a lot of people don't do is say "welp, we tried! oh well, let's cut taxes and give up." The only correct answer to introspection is cutting taxes.

Heil Obama! Heil Biden!

Who cares? When you're poor the government takes care of you...so they're probably better off than me anyway.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Te'o is a fraud & liar. He's another reason to hate ND. I'm lost. Where does this come from? I hate ND, but I had never heard anything bad about him in particular. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) The most important thing to look for in regards to Honey is that it's made in the USA, different countries have different rules as to what constitutes "honey", the US's is the most restrictive, not to mention the safest. Raw honey shouldn't be much more expensive than any other honey, the problem is going to a place that doesn't purposefully overprice it. There are a lot of local honey producers, so you can find it. Interesting that we have those rules, we're usually really lax. I think back to champagne, which only in 2006 did the USA finally protect that term to only apply to the French-made ones. Of course, they let all domestic "champagne" producers be grandfathered in.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) Yeah, again, these always tend to be conservative on an individual player level, but accurate league-wide. So the right way to look at these is the mean of a range of outcomes, many of them very extreme -- and when you have older guys, there's a better chance they bust than when they are younger, so I think guys like Dunn/PK are dragged down by the very real possibility that they just die completely. Of course, Dunn is haunted more by his 2011, PK by his age. Same thing with Peavy, really. He's good but there's still a very real chance he gets hurt and gives us well below average production. GOD BLESS IT!
-
Seems like ZiPs ends up making every player closer to league average than an average fan would expect.
-
I don't know. I find it unlikely that we don't have a 30 HR hitter. I'd say it's as likely that we have 5 (PK, Dunn, Viciedo, Rios, Flowers?) as us having 0. Both being not very likely. I'd also be surprised if Sale with a mid 3 ERA is our only starter under 4. Peavy would be the obvious choice to be under 4, but it could be anyone. If we only get 29/77 from Dunn, 26/80 from PK, 18/70 from Rios...we're not looking good. Our success really does largely hinge on those guys though. Other than Rios, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect better years from PK and Dunn, especially Dunn. Dayan should be better as well. 3B production will be up. They seem a bit optimistic about our bullpen, but they aren't weighted very heavily in an overall calculation anyway.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:54 AM) This is horses***. "Somelike the VT shooter", and who the hell is that? You want the government investigating all Americans just to make sure they are OK to own a gun? f*** you and your police state. http://articles.latimes.com/2013/jan/12/na...checks-20130113 This is what I'm talking about. Not investigating every random person who wants a gun, but actually making sure that people who are verified as mentally ill cannot get a gun, at least until a doctor releases them to do so. At the moment, only about half of states have submitted their mental health records to this registry. The NRA has lobbied hard to only get people that have already been involuntarily institutionalized to be in the system, though I have a feeling they really just want to undermine it entirely. President Obama isn't going to go to your local outdoor store, you'll just have to fill out a form. This isn't real complicated. You only have to pay fees if you don't like the government spending money on you. We should hit up the range, you can have your closet guns and I'll have my real ones. Okay, I actually like shooting sporting clays. Can we do that? They didn't ban firearms. Their existing assault weapons ban gets a revised definition, the magazine limit goes to 7, they give more teeth to their mental health registry, and perhaps most importantly they made the licensing process uniform across cities and counties so the laws aren't different every 10 miles.

If the Bobcats really don't have cap room....what the f*** have they done over there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 01:01 PM) Maybe now we know why the Rays system is so good? http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/content..._medium=twitter The substance he got burned for is nothing. It is a stimulant that for some users feels stronger than caffeine. It was in every popular pre-workout supplement for about 5 years before the FDA made it illegal for not being from a plant source. A few people with heart problems have reported issues with it, but it isn't really any more dangerous at high doses than caffeine at high doses. The performance advantage would be negligibly different than someone using a couple cups of coffee and could easily become a detriment if he used too much because it causes notable crashing. I have a big bottle of the encapsulated ingredient in my room if somebody wants to try. It is notably the good the first time you try it, then never works as well after that. Anyone that gets banned for that is careless, but not a cheater.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) The ignorance here is pretty astounding. What roadblocks? Be more specific. I mean its obvious you cannot help but have government throw away billions on a bulls*** "War on " to make you feel good, but at least give us something to go with. I could build an air rifle accurate to ~30 yards with stuff from a hardware store in a day. So could you. So could anyone. It'd be more than lethal. Also look up guns people have built in prison of like newspapers and s***, its not that difficult to do. I'd like people like the VT shooter, who should have been flagged, to actually have his info put into the system. I'd like us to be able to track those guns back to the dealer they came from, the distributor before that, etc. Each gun made should have an owner attached to it and that should be up to date. Anyone along the line that f***s that up should be held accountable. Regulating straw purchasing, along with actually giving some teeth to the background checking and registration measures that you think we'd have already. You should be able to have guns, but they need to be "on the map" so to speak. When my brother traded his car stereo for a Glock via Craigslist, we were shocked that there need not be a paper trail. Our dad is an FFL so we're used to people having to at least get their personal information written down in our records. This doesn't solve every problem, but it also isn't hurting anyone's rights. Likewise, I'd much rather deal with a driveby from a weapon made from things bought at a hardware store than an actual gun. With this set-up, if you can consent to the registration of your gun and better background keeping, you get to wield your actual gun against the prison quality ones. People don't want to go to jail to get a gun. There aren't physiological needs for it like drugs, which is why comparing them is useless. Not to mention that the weed I could grow in my yard would actually be like the real thing, not some unrefined imitation that could easily backfire if I don't know what I'm doing.
-
Instead of putting people in jail that try to illegally get drugs (something they are usually successful at, if they really want them) and harm primarily themselves...I would much rather we divert those resources to setting up roadblocks for people who try to acquire weapons illegally. Luckily, no one gets addicted to guns so it will be easier to deter. Likewise, nobody can grow a gun in their backyard or their closet so we could fathomably track the path of every gun made to see where along the way it made it into the wrong hands.

Steel cut oats = $$$$$$$$ But yeah, I of course like oats and have them often, I just like to have various healthy options around. I've found that the food I buy has a huge impact on what/how I eat. If I have bad food around, I end up trying to "work it in." If I don't have any food around, I end up going out and picking up snacks. I'm trying to make sure I can go to my pantry and see no reason to go pick something up out of boredom, but still be abstaining from tricky junk foods. I might have to try to work in chia somehow...just never seemed appetizing to me.

Totally agree. I'll go the grave saying that Coca-Cola, in and of itself, is completely benign. Like most things I can eat or do, I have to figure out what an appropriate amount is. 64 oz. with my Big Mac every day is probably not the appropriate amount. I like to have a Mexican Coke at a cafe nearby, though. Cane sugar...yum

This Kashi cereal (the one with 13g of protein, I'm such a bro for buying this) tastes like...nothing. I tend to think lots of cereals taste like nothing, but this one changes my outlook forever. Bring on the Splenda and fruits.

Anyone aware of any connections between Marinelli and Trestman? I find it doubtful that Trestman would have his defensive coordinator be somebody that he doesn't know.
-
The Bulls thoroughly tested how much you're allowed to f*** your fans over after winning 6 titles. You don't have to win 6 more titles, but you shouldn't try to match the amount of titles with the amount of times you finish with the league's worst record.

I don't think Emery goes into the interview looking for a guy who says we should become 2-1 pass or 2-1 run or whatever. As he said in his PC, he isn't there to prescribe a coaching philosophy to anyone. The "winner" of this interview process is the one who can convince him that HE can win with the Bears both now and onward, indefinitely. There is a particular kind of personality or kinds of personalities he wants and he talked about some of those things in that press conference. I'd say the quality of the argument is as important as to the substance of it -- you don't have to run a 4-3, but you must give me a satisfactory explanation (using the reasoning that appeals to my football sense) as to why you would do things differently.
-
I think Emery knows exactly what he wants and probably knows that none of the retreads apparently give him that. I'll be honest, from what I know of Trestman (there's only so much any of us can know about these guys), he seems like a pretty good hire. I'm getting the impression that he's in Montreal because he likes it, not because he couldn't be someone's OC -- he wants to be an HC. Now, we can say we hired an experienced OC with a reputation of turning around middling QBs who has also been the HC of professional football players.

If not Obama, then Clinton.

Took the Bulls on -4 and under 185 parlay, looking prettyyyyy good right now.
