QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) Continuing to borrow limitless amunts of money is actually doing the sticking. But it only sticks people who actually pay taxes. It's about not sticking it to future generations. It's about not borrowing money to give us s***. The economy is based on borrowed money, that doesn't last forever. But most of America starts crying like petulant children at the supermarket checkout. Actions that seem to fix the budget via simple addition and subtraction actually make it harder. Reductions in spending and even increases in taxes will harm growth so you must be careful how much you do them. If you want to close the gap, you increase employment. If we recover the economy, we will pay off that debt. If we get desperate about fixing the deficit now, we'll have a long term problem with our economy and thus a continuing problem with meeting our budget goals. The credit card analogies don't work on this scale.

Ann Coulter thinks we should publish names and addresses of women who have had abortions

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) But that same kid can manage to find his way into just about any illegal drug he desires pretty easily. And bomb plans can be had online. Yet we don't think he used drugs. And when was the last time someone went through the effort to bomb a school? We can't prevent everything, but we can prevent some things and make it more difficult and illegal to try to carry out these plans. For the purpose of stopping mass shootings, there are straightforward steps we can take to start preventing them.

The world also doesn't revolve around women. They didn't have to vote yes, but instead they didn't vote at all. The larger point is even if there is a legitimate problem with a bill like the Sandy, they are completely wasting their time trying to f*** with Obamacare yet again. I encourage you all to contact your representatives like I did today to let them know that we don't mind them pushing their ideology, but we do mind when they waste our time.

First bill of 113th Congress introduced by House GOP: Repeal Obamacare Sandy victims and women be damned!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) Who gets to define what's "substantive" or "on subject?" The Speaker We see how fun that is in the House. It is at times efficient, and others times anti-democratic

What does the fiscal cliff debacle say about our chances to avoid the far more worrisome climate cliff?

The guys I like right now (and we're obviously limited in how much we can actually know about anyone, especially other teams' coordinators) are: Bruce Arians Mike McCoy Jon Gruden

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) I just don't think that anything with more regulations will make much of a difference. Maybe a magazine size regulation. But honestly, anyone willing to plan and commit mass murder will find a way with illegal weapons or home made bombs. We keep saying that, but then people commit mass murders with weapons acquired legally or easily enough that those purchases/acquisitions could have/should have been restricted. Many (not all) mass murderers do so with some sense of impulse and may not be able to carry out plans that are too elaborate. These are also outsiders, generally, so a kid who plays video games in his basement and has Asperger's probably doesn't know how to get in touch with illegal gun/bomb dealers and makers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) I found this to be a really cool look at the average value of a first round draft pick for comparison with the value of signing a player that costs you that pick. Interesting look. The funny thing is, I'm still undecided. Certainly a player by player decision. I'd probably rather go with those odds rather than pay Nick Swisher over $10M/year...but maybe I wouldn't feel that way if I really needed outfielders.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) I agree. That's why I said some of them are radical. However, in many of the post he refers to the primary reason is to keep the federal government from taking too much control of everything. That's he calls many posters "government lovers" or says many poster equate government with God. But we are happy for the government to ban things like murder. The pro gun control argument is saying that we are minimizing murders in a more or less non invasive manner by restricting the sale and manufacture of guns.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 11:57 PM) Another guy in a situation where the head coach is the mastermind behind the offense, I don't want any part of the Saints/Packers OC. I'm generally with you on that point. He could be great, but his experience is far less convincing given their HC.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) In all honesty, Illinois looks very poorly coached. That's exactly how they played tonight, I agree. We're a few games like this from the target appearing on Groce. I think he's a good coach, but this team hasn't played like it for a few games now. The reason we don't get calls is we are being manhandled. We are weak and it is hard for a ref to tell the difference between a foul and us just being p*****s. Hard nosed guys like Byrd get the benefit of the doubt and we don't play like that. In general, we will struggle to win games in which there are few shooting fouls called.
-
Illinois just became irrelevant. We benefited from some calls early, and the officiating was simply bad (not biased), but the calls at the end hurt us for sure. Getting the ball back with 21 seconds down 2 would have been nice and very possibly changed the result.
-
We'll say that Byrd was "physical" to get position there.

Call a timeout while SLIDING ON YOUR KNEES? lol Laughable rebounding, nonetheless

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) It ain't over yet I guess, down 3 with 1:45 to play. Yep, my opinion has officially been made pliable.

Illinois looks like s*** and they look like they need coaching. Starting to lose that optimism I had earlier in the year. Look like pure s*** tonight, can't lose to a team of this caliber on any court.

I would say Billy Blanks' TaeBo would be more useful in this instance.

State trying to make sperm donor pay child support

So...does that mean the guy had sex with her? -
I still think we will see Simon Castro sometime soon. He had a nice year and his right handedness could be an asset, especially if we ship Gavin out.

From the D's I've heard that we refuse to negotiate this "cliff," and earlier than that I heard that if they do negotiate, they will have to increase taxes even more to get a Presidential signature.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) Oh so we just close off the entire domestic market for semi-automatic rifles. So like drugs they will be repulsed at the border by our impervious wall of lazy government employees. That'll work wonders. Luckily, unlike drugs, almost all the guns in the USA are made in the USA. Takes a fair amount more (conspicuous) infrastructure to make a gun than a plant as well.
