Saw Zero Dark Thirty tonight. Not real impressed. It was worth seeing, but honestly I'm surprised it has gotten the nom for Best Picture. I can't exactly put it the way I want to...but I feel like they did the least with that storyline that they possibly could have. Lead actress did well, but I'm overall just kind of "meh" about it. I'm going to see Lincoln tomorrow evening and Les Mis shortly, and then I'll be able to have a fuller opinion on the Best Picture. Django is the leader in the clubhouse by a mile right now, though. Not sure what the Academy will like, but I have a feeling it will be Lincoln before even seeing it.
  2. A big issue is that information is a concern for weight loss and health. There is enough dispute among seemingly reliable people as well as incoherent, contradictory messages coming from those people and others who wish to profit that even an honest inquiry can be totally mind boggling. Its as if youre not allowed to eat anything if you try to combine all the advice in the media.
  3. I cant stand Bo Ryan. Good coach, but I hate that guy.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) I don't care what the roster is, shooting 25% in half for the 3rd time in four games is just inexcusable. Even they are better than that, but they have no concept of shot selection. I have to agree on that. The idea of taking every open shot was a useful adjustment to Weber, but now it has become a major over correction. There is no offense, movement of the ball, or discretion with shot selection. Almost every attempt feels desperate or forced.
  5. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) Groce is showing major chinks in the armour with every Big Ten game he coaches! I'm growing less faithful in Groce, but lets not forget the guys on the court.
  6. I'm not feeling good about this team at all, but let's step back from the edge people.
  7. Well it would only take a minor miracle to win now.
  8. Christ the foul calls and now the continuation just makes it worse
  9. Illinois looks like that team that missed the tourney. Jesus Christ.
  10. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 07:30 PM) From what I read on PFF...jake I encourage you to chime in here as I only saw first half stats...he's not that good against the run, he just really has a knack for getting to the QB which he would be able to do at DE as well. It's obviously a plus to have the kinda pressure he gets up the middle but I wouldn't be opposed to putting him on the outside and throwing another run stuffer in the middle with Paea. Youre right. He rated near the top overall among 4-3 DTs, but virtually all of his value was tied up in his pass rushing. He had a great rate ofstopping the run when he had the opportunity, but they noted that he penetrated himself all the way out of the play too often on runs. The lineman they like second most is Idonije, though Peppers still earning high marks.

Django has no chance and it's no surprise Tarantino didn't get a look as Best Director. Waltz should get Supporting Actor and QT has a shot at original screenplay. In the end, though, the Academy hates the type of s*** that QT makes. This isn't so much something the Academy does but most establishment awards organizations around the world. The guy who clearly has a massive amount of directorial and artistic talent and has the following to show for it but doesn't make "serious" films...no Best Picture, no Best Director for you.
  12. It still wouldn't shock me if Maher decided to donate the money. He throws millions around on his show if he is to be believed.
  13. We gave WASP males a >100 year head start on everyone else. We still feel the effects of it. We made the rules the same (unless you're gay) but everyone still starts on a different place on the board. The Rawls "original position" argument would be useful here. How would you structure the government if you didn't know how much money you'd have, what color skin, which gender, which talents, etc. The beauty of it is that it still leads to different opinions, but it makes our selfish impulses more likely to end up helping the "underprivileged."
  14. They say his greatest strength is coaching the fundamentals of quarterbacking, and luckily those don't really change much. Rich Gannon says that he is the type of guy that multi-tasks very well, ie coaching the QB and calling plays. Either way, if we hire an OC that calls the plays...then I don't see how game speed is an issue. It may not be anyway.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) California has also cut more than $800 million out of its mental health services budgets since the economic collapse, in no small part to avoid significant tax increases. The mentally ill should get jobs and buy their own mental healthcare. Also, poverty is a mental illness.
  16. Bright side - I think Emery knows what he's doing. I don't think our next offensive coach could possibly be worse. Hopefully we can keep the defense stout enough that it won't offset what seems like an inevitable uptick in offensive production.
  17. This makes the zero class of HoF totally worth it.
  18. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) Slightly better than a guy who's been in Canada for the last 5 years. I know Trestman did some cool stuff in Oakland, but that was a decade ago... is he really ready to go back to NFL game speed? We shall see. I like his experience and he obviously was impressive in his interview. He has some history with Jay but a resume that extends far beyond that. Like Lovie and many other HCs, he will need to bring in very good assistants. If we bring in another good OC with Trestman, that should ease our fears that he's been out of the game for so long. And I hope we can find some way to keep Marinelli around.
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) I have big problems with hiring a CFL coach to lead the Bears. How do you feel about experienced OC's as a Bears Head Coach?
  20. Clayton on ESPN predicts the Bears go with Trestman from Montreal. Thinks we may prefer McCoy but don't feel we can wait for Denver to be eliminated for much longer.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Some national media outlets (starts with E ends with N) were talking about if Cutler's NFC Championship fiasco had anything to do with RGIII going out there playing hurt. Absolutely stupid and ridiculous. You can't let what the media, some meatball fans, and players who think they're tough sway your judgement. Your entire career is far more important than one wild card playoff game. It's not the super bowl, it's not even the NFC championship. If RGIII was thinking about something like that, then he would have gotten hurt eventually. I heard Cutler come up many times on ESPN as they discussed RG3. Most of the time, they used it as a likely outcome had Shannahan pulled Griffin out before the injury got worse. I can only recall once or maybe twice that it was insinuated that Cutler remained a p**** because of it. On the other hand, not ONCE was it mentioned that Jay actually incurred a legitimate injury in that game. Or that he's an extremely tough SOB. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) ESPN is unwatchable. If you crave NFL coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NBA coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave MLB coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NHL coverage, there's a channel for that. ESPN is getting worse by the day. (EDIT: save NBA Countdown - best show on that channel that thankfully leads into actual basketball games) It's the only channel I've got. Basic cable
