  1. Everybody insisting there will be no debt ceiling debate... Am I living up to my tagline in hoping everyone has had too much fighting to do this BS again?
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) I believe this hard of a fight will result in the very best compromise we could hope for. I really hope there is no move to increase the debt ceiling. We may finally be putting the brakes on government borrowing. Why would we stop borrowing? Balancing the budget now would cause an absolute calamity.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) From what I read a 'friend' bought them for him, and is now being prosecuted as a straw buyer. I just can't find the link anymore. At least somebody gets held responsible. Too bad we have to lose two good men first.

    Resolution Time!

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) I hate that 80% of resolutions are getting in shape and the gym is ridiculously filled for the first month or so of the new year. My resolution is to create an official bucket list today and pick one thing to accomplish off it this year, I'll post whatever that is when I have chosen. At least a few people will change their lives for the better for their attempts. I want to make a designated night per week or two weeks when I go to the movies. I don't see enough new stuff. Likewise, I want to see more films that aren't mandated by my coursework. I want to particularly focus on films that I wouldn't happen upon otherwise, like indie flicks and foreign films. I also want to generally organize myself better. I will start this by tracking my food intake like I used to and hopefully getting into a rhythm in the gym. I've had a rash of injuries and I've had a ton of restrictions. We'll see if I can get that to work out...I may have an impending surgery. Physique changes are much harder when I can't lift or sometimes workout at all. :/
  5. I'm hearing that they will only put amendment on floor if they have 218 votes for it, which is unlikely. If no amendment, then straight up and down vote. This should be successful. One rep tweeted that he thought the Senate bill would pass without Dems. On the other hand, a "senior aide" said he thinks it will all fall apart and it will have to go to the 113th.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) I agree in concept. But in reality that would get absolutely nothing done. I'm from a rural area here in Illinois. Believe me I want all views represented. Illinois politics is ruled by Chicago because of this. However, too many people trying to make one decision will lead to more indecision and no action. I'm from rural Illinois and I don't think my reps have ever represented me. They go in there to push their ideology... And that's okay. What else would they do?
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) I'm not terribly convinced by her argument there A bit of a stretch
  8. I'm now prepared for them to do nothing. Ever.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) You must have missed my line somewhere when I said Boner needs to borrow one of Nancy Pelosi's testicles. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) Um...
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Exactly what Obama wanted. Now he gets to claim he cut taxes for "middle class Americans". Except no one cared what they called it. Obama has said both that he's cutting taxes for middle class and that he's raising taxes on the wealthy. Repubs have apparently even forgotten how to use semantics to their advantage. Would you rather hear that your taxes had been cut pre-emptively or a couple days late? All the cuts were temporary - - extending them means cutting taxes again. Boehner needs to grow a set and realize his party is about to lose its majority if he doesn't do anything.
  11. Opting to add 'responsible spending cuts.' Deal is dead. This bulls*** of not putting things up for a vote is f***ing ridiculous.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) The House Republicans were supposed to meet at 1:00 p.m. today, there hasn't been any obvious comment on the results of that meeting yet, but a couple of the far right Republicans came out in opposition to the deal before the meeting. CNN did report that Boehner did not take a position on the bill or on whipping in favor of it. Sounds like most of the House Democrats will support it, but they cannot bring the bill to the floor on their own. There is no vote scheduled in the House for today, and some of the Republicans are doubting whether the bill will come forwards today. Read tweet that said Cantor opposed it while Boehner was laying out 'options'

  14. 'Biden should have run the show for the past month'
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Yea I read something a month or so ago that said Knox isn't even able to run yet. we are a year after the injury and he can't even run, that is not a good sign. I could see Emery using a 4th - 6th round pick on a speedster I'd be okay with that.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) It should have been Hester. They can find a speed burner. Two of the biggest worst plays last year were the result of Knox messing up, Cutlers thumb due to him giving up on a route and Knox breaking his back because he fumbled. He did a lot of annoying s***, that's for sure. With that said, I don't mind the idea of a 4th wideout on his rookie contract that has already put up 960 yard and 740 yard (14 games) seasons in his past. Literally no risk in having him around.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) No. Everything other than Medicare gets cut. It's the foolish "Conservative wet dream" of a 10% across the board cut. It's terrible policy...and it's particularly frustrating since they'd come on top of what is now a 5 year salary freeze, a 5 year discretionary spending freeze, and very large cuts imposed as part of the budget agreement between the Congress and the President last year. (If there was any spending that could easily be cut, it was heavily gashed last spring in that mess). Of course, if you pay attention to even earlier this thread, counting "Cuts from that baseline" is somehow incorrect, since those cuts didn't actually happen so you have to cut even farther. Just letting the payroll tax expire is going to cut probably 0.5% of GDP growth this year compared to what it would have been if you extended that. The Sequester cuts this year would have been $100 billion, and with feedbacks, that probably would cut another 1% from GDP on the year. I have to think someone will try to cut the payroll tax in the next budget negotiation.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) I'm glad we don't have a player like Knox currently. It isn't hard to find a WR that doesn't finish routes, has alligator arms, suspect hands and puts the ball on he ground a lot. He had world class speed and occasionally made a good deep target, but that was it. It's a shame what happened to him, I don't like to see anyone get bent that way, but I didn't miss him. Hester did a fine job playing his WR jester part. We just didn't have anyone to blow the top off. I like Johnny as a fourth guy, given the top 3 we have. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Absolutely love just about everything I have heard from Emery. Dude is smart , to the point, no bulls***. Giving good justification on his draft picks, and moves so you can at least see what his thought process is/was. Yes, this is very impressive. Completely transparent and captivating.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) If there was an agreement on the debt ceiling...I doubt the House would pass it. They want to play this game again. It's no coincidence at all that the Sequester was put off...until the exact time the debt ceiling gets hit, in February. Are liberals really that attached to the sequestration cuts? I haven't nailed down what, in addition to defense, gets hammered. I hope once Boehner gets his spot back, he backs off of these fights.
  20. The old Johnny Knox would be a nice addition to this squad. We don't have a player like him currently.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) Were you around during the Cheney administration? Cheney (like KW ) was more of the VP behind the curtain
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Hate it. We're going to be in a worse boat in 2 months because this didn't cover the debt ceiling. Jumping from one crisis to another because Congress votes for laws that create crises is literally insane. The lack of entitlement cuts in this deal gives leverage to Ds if a budget fight arises. That said, the buzz late last night was that a contingent part of this agreement in the Senate was that there would be no debt ceiling fight. I've seen that McCain has already contradicted that, so we shall see.
  23. I've never seen a VP have such an important role in a major policy discussion.
