nugget from 2005 world series
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Here's a nugget for ya: I called the Konerko grand slam. I just KNEW he was going to do it and I told everybody at the bar prior to the first pitch. And then, BAM. How weird is that? My favorite part is that, after they caught back up, AJ's on the mound with Ozzie and he says oh well, we'll just have to break their hearts again. And that's just what we did. Magical. That's funny. As Paulie walks up, he says "What are the chances he hits a bomb here." Seconds later, we're screaming "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARDDDD...YES!"

Negativity? Sox Fans #1
I think we are in general more negative than we should be. We let losses linger and often tend to overlook our strengths and wins. Of course I don't usually feel this way, but in general we as Sox fans have a negative mentality.

Ozzie Manuel
Mark was screwed several times by the ump in that inning, not to mention whatever happened with the balk.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) So let's say we play GREAT against the Tigers in those 10 games and go 7-3. That means we have a 5 game defecit with them having 41 games left and us 43. I still think the odds are very low at that point. All we have to do then is outplay them by 6 games. Don't think about what they have to do, just think about what we have to do. Which is just play great, something we all know we can do.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Detroit has to play 23-28 the rest of the way, and we have to match our win total from last year (and go 34-19). And that senario would mean we win 99 and they win 98. I'm not betting on that. If you overthink it, you're not gonna feel like it's gonna work. Just like thinking about hitting that tiny ball coming at you at 90 mph with a tiny little wooden stick sure seems like an impossible task. We have the luxury of having the ability to take away 10 of their games, which we need to take advantage of.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Best way to get the Tigers on a losing streak? Start it ourselves. It happened last year. So, we've got Buehrle against the Angels, Garcia, Garland, and Vazquez against the Yanks, and Contreras, Buehrle, and Garcia against the Tigers. Man, I wish Garcia wasn't the one pitching twice against those 2 teams. We still have a shot at this division. The odds are most definitely not with us, but we can go through this next stretch without losing more than two games, preferably sweeping Detroit, we'll be in good shape. We can win this division in those head-to-head matchups. I don't mind Garcia pitching, I don't expect him to dominate, but he'll keep us in games.

Where's the Vaz love?
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) It's his first quality start in a month and a half Hell of a start, but I'm not gonna love him cuz of 1 great start. I only love him for his money.

Anyone worried about Jenks yet?
QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) I actually thought I saw the "hammer" drop down, but Troy simple pick it up from down low and send it out to center, looked the perfect version of that pitch that Glaus just did a great job with It was just a fastball on the outside corner. Decent pitch, much better swing.

It's only because he's pitching in Canada again. /green

Only take Javy out once a baserunner reaches.

Official Game Thread 8/5 - Sox vs Jays
Actually. This proves nothing. Javy can only pitch in Canada. God damn is Downs' curve nasty!

Keep him in. He could use the confidence of a CG.

Javy Vasquez = Cy Young.

Garza could be solution to 5th spot in rotation...
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) His stuff is simply too good not to succeed. That's what they say about Javier Vazquez.

We're not the only ones
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Yeah they're getting a lot of clutch hitting late, which is really saving them quite a bit right now. But we had the same type of thing happen last season, and we're renowned for it. They'll be hard to catch, but I think it's still definitely possible. Yeah, last year Cleveland made up 17 games on us, all we have to do is make up 9 to win.

Any lineup that Anderson is in is a good one.

Jose Cruz Jr.
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) For the bold part, I think Mackowiak should flat out take Pods' job. That way, there would still be a platoon of Mackowiak and Ozuna, and we'd have a better hitter against RHP in Rob. I've been preaching about and hoping for this for a while, though, and it just ain't happening. I really don't think Mackowiak will be successful as an everyday player. I think Scotty is better offensively and defensively. If we were to make a change in LF, I would want it to be a Ryan Sweeney-type, someone who actually has some upside and is better defensively.

Series Preview: White Sox @ Blue Jays
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) Lol, the Article says "Kansas City Royals" for the Jays lineup, but it is definately not the Royals lineup. FWIW, the Royals have outscored the Sox and Jays since the ASB.

Play Ozzie for a week
QUOTE(jparkman @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) 2. use matt thornton a little less in close games. I feel the exact opposite way about him. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him close out some ballgames. He had one bad night the other night, but he is in the upper echelon in set-up men. As is MacDougal, when healthy. We have 3 legitimate closers on this team, and if Bobby continues to struggle we have two good options.
