  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) The Cubs would love to get rid of his 3 year deal in order to free up money and playing time for a big name acquisition this offseason. That's possible, but hearing what they are asking for for Maddux makes me shudder to think what they'd want for Jacque. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) He would be a nice high average backup. I would only acquire him as a starter.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) I thought we just acquired Jacque Jones to play left field (that was my thought) and honestly it wouldn't be horrid. He could play defense throughout the outfield. But I realize most everyone hates Jacque Jones, although I've long been a big fan. Jacque would be an improvement over Podsednik, but not a huge one. Not to mention the price we would probably have to pay to get him.
  3. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Brian Anderson is close to on par with Andrew Jones if you are talking defense only. If you throw McCarthy into the trade, they'd better get a reliever back somewhere because that bullpen would look awful thin again. Reliever? How about Smoltz?
  4. gosh darn moving BA to left, Jones is vastly overrated in CF. He was so great at one point in time, but his defense is declining. He can replace Pods anyday though.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Then why are we looking for bullpen help and why did we go out and get bullpen help if we have several arms in the system that can replace a great arm like BMac's in the pen? How does that make sense? We want to get Vazquez and his high paycheck out of Chicago. Not to mention BMac hasn't been showing a "great arm" out of the pen this year. He's probably our second to worst reliever.
  6. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) No way. Mack is not an everday player on a good team, and leading off only makes it worse. I actually wouldn't even mind seeing Sweeney get a chance to start in left. He can lead off, even though he isn't a leadoff hitter. Hell, even BA can lead off if needed. So let's beat the spiff out of Pods, put him on the DL, and see if Sweeney can beat the hell out of major league pitching just like ST. Even though this is the '07 thread, I wouldn't mind trying this right now. It seems like a no-brainer if Pods really did get hurt.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) No it really isn't and you are making no sense at all. In fact I think it is an idiotic statement to make for the reasons I already mentioned. Who replaces BMAC in the rotation. I don't believe you are thinking this all the way through. There are several guys in our system capable of emulating BMacs performance from the bullpen. (Tracey)

    QUOTE(traydragen @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I am, and they are about to BLOOOW UP. I have yet to find a bad song by them.
  11. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) out of curiousity, does Haeger fit into our 2007 rotation plans at all? If so, dumping Vazquez and Freddy might be a reality. I think SOMEONE can be effective from our system, along with McCarthy, be it Haeger, Phillips, or even Broadway (a longshot)
  12. Yes, we need to make a deal to bring Timo back.

    I would give McCarthy, Fields, Sweeney, whoever they'd like for Oswalt. And then give him a 100 year deal.
  14. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Hell, I'm still playing the old WCW vs nWo for N64. That's really a great game.

    Does anyone know how hard/effective Hermy has been throwing down there? He could still help us up in Chicago.
  16. So why don't celebate priests turn to women as opposed to men?
  17. Who needs games? Porn. Lots and lots of porn.
  18. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Thats the funniest thing I've ever seen. ?
  19. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) I don't see this as an excuse. I see it as the Sox recognizing a problem and trying whatever they can to fix it. ^^^
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) As if Vazquez doesn't have problems enough keeping his ERA down, Cotts didn't help that cause today. Bad pitching all the way around, some bad luck in the 9th didn't help either. Everything went right for Gibbons today, he fisted his base hit in the 9th. Conine I give credit to, great veteran at bat but bad pitch location and selection by the White Sox. Mackowiak again costs us in center, as well. Not a lot went right today. But we almost came through with a good win anyways.

    QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) Tonight's lineup was a f***ed up, hideous thing. There's something so deeply unintimidating about AJ Pierzynski batting third instead of Jim Thome. AJ Pierzynski wasn't even the problem. We have our starting CF out there today, I think we win this game.
  22. QUOTE(zenryan @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) why not trade BMac if you arent going to use him over Javy That's what I'm starting to think. Might as well get some value for the kid if you aren't going to make him a valuable piece of your team.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) What do you think about giving Thornton a chance or two at closing out a game? With Jenks struggling lately, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Thornton get a situation with a 3 run lead and some lefties coming up to the plate. In no way am I advocating a change, but it might give Ozzie some options. I remember that before the year, you thought Cotts would get some chances to close (to give Ozzie options). Again, I agree with you wholeheartedly. Jenks is still our primary closer, but all teams will have someone else close on occasion, if anything just to give the regular a break. You won't find many teams with only one person with all the saves.
  24. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) Did he not know what he was paying for? Look at his career. He is a 500. pitcher. Take it up with Kenny Williams That doesn't mean we should expect him to be just a .500 pitcher.
