QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) I heard Marc Stein I believe it was, state that this year with Kobe and the Lakers is alot like Jordan's early years in the league, when he had the freedom to do what he pleased and averaged over 35 points a game because of the lack of talent on the Bulls squads. It's amazing the Lakers have the record they do, and its solely because of Kobe's shooting. Nobody can stop him, and Phil realizes that. What will be interesting to me now, is to see if teams start putting all their focus on Kobe, and if Kobe's assist numbers go up accordingly. That to me will tell me if he's on Jordan's level. Otherwise he will still score alot, but his shooting percentage will go down, as will the Lakers. I haven't seen Kobe's ability to make teammates better in his career yet, but this second half of the season should be the perfect oppurtunity for that part of his game to come out, if its there. The Lakers have to fall soon, I just dont see Kobe hitting his shots and carrying the team all season, teams have to double team him and make him pass the ball like u said, to improve other players, however I really think they make the playoffs. Now the Bulls on the other hand. :rolly

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Yes, thats true. You do have your own opinion. But stating that you have a blatent hate for the Bears and all their players (which includes Benson by the way), voids your opinion on the matter in my book. Thats my opinion Meh whatever

Pretty need extension, very useful, keeps me from opening numerous links to get to hotstove and war room and etc.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Right there you completely made anything you've said in this thread null and void because you've showed you have a bias against the Bears. I really havent said anything about the bears in this thread with exception of benson, so who gives a damn, i have my own opinion.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) And what did Larry Johnson do his first couple seasons? NOTHING. I can't believe how everyone seems to have written Benson off after just one season. Thomas Jones played great and we were winning. He got into camp late (blame him or blame mgmt, I don't care) and he's gonna have a full off-season and training camp (barring injury) to really adjust to the NFL. He will be a star in this league and the type of workhorse running back that I love. I didnt write anyone off, I dont like the bears or their players, and yes I know larry johnson had to wait a couple of years. Just my own opinion, who says that Benson is gonna be just as good as johnson because he has to wait on the shoulders of thomas jones.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 01:50 AM) He would not have been demoted if he had done this consistently. Now let's see him string a few games like this together before we hand over a permanent starting spot again. He will pull out some sort of injury, usually the case with him

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 04:31 AM) A scrambling QB is also probe to having more mistakes on offense, if their decision making isn't great. Have a look at Jake Plummer. He wasn't good in Arizona for at least half a decade. But hasn't their main problem been that they can't protect the QB. It's no good having a good QB if he has to take 3 step drops to unload the football before he gets whacked. Carr deserves a chance to show what he can do under Kubiak with a better offensive line in front of him IMHO. Well if you trade down for a lineman, you're obviously not going to trade Davis or Carr are you. That'd just be pretty damn stupid. Scrambleres do have alot more decisions but I just think since they have such a poor offense a qb who can get out of the pocket and run to get the first would help them. Even if they do happen to draft a linemen, you cant guarantee hes gonna help protect the QB better than the next guy, even though ferguson was a good blocker at Virginia. The raiders when they had troubles getting blocking took Gallery and all of a sudden they had a good running game and their pass improve so I think on the Texans part waiting a year for a QB or Rb could be worth the wait, and of course they wouldnt trade davis or carr unless they got a hell of a lot out of them.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 04:35 AM) Why would you want to vote for someone just because he has "X" more posts then this guy? Balta's winning because he's a good informative poster. I agree balta is good

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 03:34 AM) Young could take a few years to develop, it's a big risk to take him at #1. It really depends on whether they can unload Davis. Really they should trade down and pick the OT Ferguson, but that's not the "sexy" pick that is going to sell tickets for Bob McNair. So they're kind of in a rock in a hard place right now. Great position to be in, but do they stick with Carr instead of Davis thinking if they upgrade the O-Line, the offense will be much improved, instead of going with Young and Davis and cutting Carr loose? All young qbs tend to take a longer time to develop with exceptions, my cousin in San Fran keeps tellin me everyone wants to get rid of Alex Smith already, everyone expected to have him just come out and give a spark to their offense, no one however realizes they have no receivers for him to go to, alot of pressure was put on him. Taking Young of course is gonna be risky, I gotta believe Texans fans want a winning team being a huge football state, and Young might play better in Texas with a lot of fans down there who would come in and watch him adding to their attendance as u noted and also maybe taking some tension off his shoulders, I dont expect him to go out and have them double their scoring but a scrambling qb opens up options on offense. But if they pass on a qb or rb and take a linemen then there still not in the greatest shape in the world with Carr at qb. Im not too sure who they would get for Domanick Davis. Problem is if they take the linemen and trade Davis this leaves holes at qb and rb figuring Carr is cut which i doubt happens, they might be better off testing free agency for offensive linemen. Heres an interesting scenario: First pick take Reggie Bush Second pick take Omar Jacobs, good qb who I believe is underrated Then test the market for some offensive linemen, next year they could always go for linemen or a QB if things dont work out, nobody expects them to be an above 500 team no matter what direction they go though.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 03:17 AM) He didn't get 1000 yards because he only played 11 games. And I'd say he only had 2 red zone TD's, because the Texans are just hopeless down in the red zone in quite a few aspects, such as coaching (Capers and Palmer getting fired), and the Texans not being able to protect Carr, so defenses can just concentrate on stopping Davis on the first and second down. This raises another question, since they have troubles in the redzone even with the fact that davis has had a good yards per carry average why would they want to draft Reggie Bush. They really should go after Vince Young, the Texans are very similar to the Atlanta Falcons before the Michael Vick era, somewhat of the same situation, Young is like a rb and passing qb, if Davis is doing well whats the point of adding Bush, they still need to protect Carr. I mean come one, we dont know how much better Reggie is going to do than Davis. You saw Texas play, Young just changed teams whole defensive strategy, USC couldnt figure him out. He reminds me of Daunte Culpepper with his size and speed. I just dont get why they would draft Bush, it would just be an add on to what they already have. Seems like all the teams with the top draft pick believe that they have to draft the best available player.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) 2003-04 - 14 games, 1031 yards on 238 carries(4.3 per carry), 8 TDs 2004-05 - 15 games, 1188 yards on 302 carries(3.9 per carry), 13 TDs 2005-06 - 11 games, 976 yards on 230 carries(4.2 per carry), 2 TDs Those are the numbers of Domanick Davis. I don't think he believes you. Touche Well they did lose Victor Riley who was one of the starting tackles. I wouldnt say just because he had roughly a 4 yd per carry avg given the listed stats that his line is that good. A bit off topic but look at Carr: 2003-04 sacked 15 times 04-05 sacked 49 05-06 sacked 68 Thats mostly what I based my idea off of, and Davis didnt even get a thousand yards. He did have some decent stats, personally if he had such a good rush avg then why two tds?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) What? I voted for Sleepy. And how does Middle_Buffalo not get on that list? He is one of my favorite posters. I guess the descriptions of rookie of the year is a little vague, I tend to think its based on post count therefore that is why Balta is winning, choosing someone by post quality or who you like is a little opinionative.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) Do you expect Gus Freotte if he's the starter to post better numbers next season then Chris Simms with Scott Linehan heading to St. Louis? I think with the receivers he has he could post better numbers, Id rather have Booker Chambers and McMichael as my receivers than Galloway and clayton, I really dont see Galloway having the same performance, first frerotte has to start, but this is based solely upon what the Dolphins do with their draft pick, I really think they should take Cutler.

Dodgers, Blue Jays interested in B. Molina
ChWRoCk2 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
Ive always liked Bengie, definitely a good arm as stated above, and he seemed to hit well when the Angels had him in the 5th spot against us in the playoffs I believe, hes improved over the seasons. He will go to LA, even though both teams are in need. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) Please tell me you are not suggesting that Shaun Alexander is not a redzone RB. Please. I agree that Alexander is the type that can break long runs at midfield, but it's a poor example in this scenario, as Alexander kind of broke the single season touchdown record this year. Perhaps using Onterrio Smith/Michael Bennett/Mewelde Moore and Moe Williams in Minnesota would be a better choice. No he is definitely a redzone rb, he can do almost anything I probably should have been more specific. He just seems to break a lot of big runs same with Larry Johnson. Pfft Minnesota, they do have some speedsters but their starting rb changes every year because of many injuries. I really liked bennett when he was once starting in front of moe williams, he broke some big ones that Id see in the highlights. Vikings just dont do a good job of utilizing their depth at rb, they would do well with a split backs, all of the speed, and they could have their backs run flats. Just my perspective.

Developer trying to move Marlins to Charlotte
ChWRoCk2 replied to greasywheels121's topic in The Diamond Club
Hmm the Charlotte Marlins, I dont know if i could adjust to that, I wish people would show up and support their damn team, Ive been to a marlins forum and they yell about low attendance, when all they have to do is go to the games. The best location is easily Las Vegas, lots of people high rollers over there, I just dont get the move to Charlotte, the city isnt doing to well after Katrina I have to believe and they would have to get a stadium, it just wont happen. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) However...say, hypothetically, Uribe doesn't work in the 2 slot...but Iguchi is killing the ball down in the order and is a real force for us. Do we take that force away, or do we find someone else to fill that spot in the lineup...someone like, say, AJ Pierzynski? I know he's not your prototypical 2 hitter, but I personally think he would probably be a pretty good 2 hitter. He has shown he can atleast keep the ball fair when he bunts, he doesn't strike out much at all, he would be great in hit-and-run situations, he can go to the right side of the infield rather easily, and it would get him more into the hit for average mentality again rather than the hit for power type mentality. I dunno...maybe just food for thought. If Uribe doesnt work I would definitely move him back to the bottom of the order. In the case of Iguchi hitting well you have to keep him in his spot, one slight change could throw his hitting off. I think you could give Crede or Anderson a shot at the number two spot, seeing how crede hit towards the end of the year Id like to see him hit a little bit higher, and he has the popups to move players over. Anderson is a stretch though. Aj wouldnt be bad also two lefties in a row, that could be pretty nice combo at the top, and possibly Thome in the third spot. I guess we will have to wait, I really dont see why we go with last years order and fill in the missing spots, and insert thome in there somewhere, the pods iguchi combo I thought wasnt too bad.

Alright, well my mind still wont change on Ronnie Brown, personally i just didnt like him, and since ricky williams did a nice job towards the end of the season I see them splitting some carries next year. Cadillac took alot of the load and the bucs really turned out to be a better team with him, and they really dont have the greatest qbs also. Now Bush going to the Texans, if he were drafted by them, the Texans second pick should be an offensive linemen or get one through FA, because nobody could survive running the ball behind the Texans o line, I really hope he doesnt go there though. Its nice for Reggie because hed most likely start and also Davis could take some of the load off his shoulders. It would be a similar situation there and he would be the go to guy since their receivers didnt show up to play last year, I dont recall andre johnson or bradford posting high numbers at all.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) They always say the Redzone is where you can gauge a players heart. Benson is one of the best RZ players I've ever seen. As a collegiate and HS runner the kid took blow after blow and didnt b**** at all. Angelo unfortunatly didnt have a crystal ball to look into to forsee the holdout. Cadillac isnt as beat-the-f***-up as Benson is.. he had Ronnie Brown and Brandon Jacobs take some of the load off of him. I might go a little off topic here but: I dont agree, I think nowadays you want the type of player that breaks runs in midfield that can help a team get to the endzone, for example shaun alexander and larry johnson, and when they get down there they use players like Duckett and Bettis to bust it in or the qb sneaks it in or passes it. Tough to say this can go any direction personally Id rather have a player with speed who can break some big runs, kind of like warrick dunn, or cadillac, nowadays the trend is to have a good backup who can just go in for the one play and score, every player wants to score so its not like you can judge ones heart more than the others. Benson being beat up in college doesnt mean anything, who backed up larry johnson, no one, and now hes one of the best backs in the league, if I were the star player on the team Id want to be in every play, yes theres gonna be hits and injuries but Im sure the nfl scouts would like to see which players can rebound off of injuries and make some comebacks.

Iguchi easily, he should be well adjusted to major league pitching by now. Maybe Uribe also based on how he ended his season but its too hard to say.
