QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) We are going to get into the playoffs. The other teams dont matter. Its time for this team to learn how to string a few hits together without trying to park everyone into the stands. They need to get back to situational hitting. Driving the runner in. Its time to get this offense going before the playoffs. When 6+ Era pitchers can shut us down for most of a game its pretty focking sad. I know, I was looking at the #1 seed and homefield. Thats the only thing we're playing for at this point. If we win tonight we will likely be up 9.5 games in that category.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) You're nuts! For the time being, I'm much more worried about the fact that Twins and Indians are winning. I simply find it amazing that anyone would be worried about freaking wild card teams now, with the division not even being close to being clinched. Even KW said that the only thing we've clinched is being in first place on August 4th! Neither one of those teams is going to play .750 baseball from here on out. Nobody has lost a lead this big, this late in the history of the game. We have the biggest lead in a division in baseball. Cleveland and Minny do not matter.
-
Some good news. 2 of the important teams that we are looking at are both losing. Oakland is down to KC and Boston is losing to Minny. The only other teams we'd really be interested in are the Yanks, who are winning, but that doesn't really matter, and LAA who hasn't started yet.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) Hr # 10 for A-Row here?? Almost, I was yelling stretch off the bat

STOP f***ING HITTING IGUCHI YOU BASTARDS

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:26 PM) Don't start s*** tonight. Just lay off, I didn't say anything you should take personally. I'm not starting anything. Just correcting your statement so people don't get the wrong ideas. 0 for his last 10 is not hot. When you say hot, people think getting a lot of productive hits, not hitting .158 in last 7 games.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) In his last 7 games he's been hitting a whopping .158. That's his first HR in that timespan. Even better, thanks.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) Let's hope that's the last fastball we throw to Sexson this series. He's been absolutely on fire lately. He was 0 for his last 10 coming into that AB.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Oh, Ok. The Sox would've just said, "Damn, Timo didn't get a hit, so we can't score now...!" I thought the BB against Anahiem was pretty important... Harris wasn't good this year. I'm not trying to argue that. But Timo isn't worth a million bucks. LOL. His BB. Nice. Exactly.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) ... even though we scored like four runs after his homer... You don't know if that happens without Timo. But I'll try to think of a big hit Willie had this year...... Wait, I can't find any.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) that's not the point. if your saying timo should be on this team because he got a game winning hit, then you have to say kelly deserved it last year. But that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying just based on that alone he should be here over Willie, but he's done much more. He'd have much higher avg with RISP if every ball he hit in KC didn't line right at somebody. Game winning HR against Minny this year. Game tying hit against one of the best closers in the game with 2 outs. He was the only one to hit in the Oakland series at home. Is he great? No. But he has done a fine job as one of the pinch hitters off the bench.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) No, I don't think Harris is as good or better than Podsednik at stealing bases. I wasn't implying that. I just get tired of seeing people say, "he can't steal a base". He's 80% success rate on his career. He's doing something right... Yes, but Willie only went when he knew he had a damn good chance against the pitcher or catcher. Otherwise he stayed right there.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) kelly drandsfeldt won us a game last year. I'm just talking about this year and Willie and TImo. Timo has done much more than just that LAA game.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) Can't play defense? You're talking about Perez, not Harris, right? Can steal an occasional base? I hope you're talking about Podsednik, too, because over his career, he's been .3 percentage points better than Harris. Hey, I gave him credit for stealing an occasional base. Perez has contributed 10x more than Willie this year. He contributed more than Willie had all year just by getting that clutch hit against LAA.
-
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Willie can't play defense? You lost any credability you had bashing Willie right there. Did you watch the KC series. I gaurentee that's some of why he got sent down. He made four or five horrible plays in the two losses. And yes, I exaggerated. H

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Jphat....you've tried to make things personal w/me for a long time. I'm not going there, because we're all Sox fans, and that's good enough for me. I definitely dislike Ozzie's in-game managing...I've never said otherwise. Right now, Ozzie is hands down the Manager of the Year. However, they don't give out that award until after the season...not after July! Maybe you should send Ozzie an email. I know he'd like to hear your opinion!
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) How so? Because Willie can't bunt, hit, play defense for half of the year, move the runners over, come up with a big hit. He can steal an occasional base.
-
QUOTE(S720 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Fathom: At the end of this season, why don't you send in your application to take over Ozzie's job? But for now, I trust Ozzie's professional knowledge than your amaturish guessing! Seriously. Fathom has to be one of the worst fans I have ever seen. Mercy. The man has his team at 69-36. Its one thing to say thats a crappy AB, but to sit there and second guess the manager with the best record in baseball. INcredible.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) willie harris makes 365k, would you say timo is worth more than twice as much as willie? Easily. It's not even close.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Crede looked worse than an NL pitcher in that f***ing AB. So Ozzie has Blum hit for Uribe instead of Crede? Uribe is swinging the bat pretty well now, while Crede has looked piss poor tonight. Bad managing this inning. So far, Ozzie has been right many, many more times than you have.
-
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:33 PM) all of those traits are worth a roster spot on the bench, not 1 million dollars There is not a big difference between 6 and 7 hundred K and a millino when you have a 75 million dollar payroll. Plus the intangibles he brings. But whatever.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) .... Even though the stats show he hasn't been very good in 'clutch' situations. I'm sorry, sub-.300 OBP doesn't equal $1 million bucks. Yah, thats not good if you are a starter, but he's not. He's needed to OCCASIONALLY come in and get a big hit. And he's done that many times so far this year. His close and late numbers are .273 .333 .545 .878 Not too shabby for a pinch hitter. And I'm looking at individual circumstances, and he's won two BIG games by himselft and tied at least 3 other in the 8th or 9th inining.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) As a PH this year, he has a .250 OBP in 15 ABs. With men on and two outs, he has a .250 OBP in 22 ABs. With RISP, he has a .276 OBP in 25 ABs. Link. But hey, he's a clubhouse favorite and worth every penny of his $1 million dollar contract. Timo has easily earned his contract so far this year. He won a couple games for us and brought us back with big hits in a few others. That alone is worth that million along with what he has done int he clubhouse.
-
QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) No one else has had a golden chance with 2nd and 3rd in a 1 run game. Uhhh....we are like 0-11 with RISP. wtf are you talking about. Everybody's had a chance.
