  1. Would you guys have sent Rowand home knowing that Crede was due up?
  2. The Astros have 2B Chris Burke so I doubt they would be interested in Willie. I agree with you on Randa though. He's old and wouldn't cost much and the Reds will definately be looking to trade him. I doubt they expect a big return on him.
  3. It IS the Cubune. :headshake
  4. I'd give them Crede, Anderson, and McCarthy for Ensberg and Lidge.
  5. They would definately want Brian Anderson and more.

  7. This article makes more sense. The Cubs would be giving up prospects for Kotsay, not Patterson. "Yanks, Cubs, Red Sox all after Kotsay" http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3708736
  8. Zambrano didn't drill any of our guys, did he? :headshake
  9. It was a nice play but I think Uribe would have made it as well. Ozuna looked horrible at 3rd base in Colorado but he sure looks like he can handle SS. I'm most impressed with Ozuna's ability to put the ball in play and his speed. He hustles and runs everything out. Ozuna is starting at SS again today. This will give Uribe 4 full days off to rest his back with the off-day on Thursday.

Well, stealing bases is Podsednik's whole game. Every pitcher knows he's going to take a big lead and try to steal. Derek Lee has 10 SB and only 2 CS because no one thinks he's going to run. Podsednik is almost at a disadvantage when it comes to stealing bases. But do you think Ozzie should tell him not to run? That's ridiculous. There's also a mental aspect of Podsednik being on base that your stats don't calculate. Is there a stat for messing with a pitcher's head? We have seen it numerous times this season.

But he isn't and his overall AVG is good. Nice "what if" though...
  12. He works the corners? Low and away? I'm sure Crede is gonna love swinging at those for base hits like he did last night.

I have heard all about those stats. Pods got picked off today, yet we still won the game. Did it really hurt that Pods got picked off? Nope. Has Podsednik's stolen bases and speed on the base paths helped us more than his CS's and PO's have hurt us? I think so. I think the problem is that you weren't expecting anything from Podsednik after his bad season last year and now you are trying to prove yourself right, even though he is having a good season.

Have Podsednik's CS's and PO's hurt us in the long run? I don't think so. I guess the 75% rule doesn't mean much then.

I just don't know how anyone could think Podsednik hasn't been a huge addition to our team. We haven't had a good leadoff hitter since Ray Durham. I also believe you are reading too much Baseball Prospectus. Those stat-heads peddle that kind of crap. Podsednik's caught-stealings and pickoffs obviously haven't hurt us too much.

The "caught stealing" stat doesn't include "pickoffs."

So Podsednik's .289 AVG and .363 OBP doesn't make up for the 7 or 8 times that he has been picked off?
  18. He will miss all of next season as well, won't he? I think that's what I heard.

You discount the fact that his speed allows him to score from 1st and 2nd on hits that many other players wouldn't be able to.
  20. Well, it was predictable that Greinke would own him. Does Howell throw heat? Then maybe Konerko has a chance.
  21. Well, I was more worried about Greinke and we ended up beating him. I don't mind facing a lefty considering we are the best lefty-hitting team in the MLB... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...=31&season=2005 I hope the stats hold true tomorrow.
  22. Kotsay isn't haven't a very good season but then again, no one on the A's is.
