  1. They have Antonio Perez, who is currently mashing the ball, at 3rd base. They also have Valenstache coming back from injury after the All-Star break. I'm not so sure they need a 3rd baseman.
  2. I think this just shows that everyone on the A's is struggling. Even Jason Kendall, who is a career .304 AVG, .385 OBP hitter, is currently only hitting .250 AVG with a .325 OBP. Everyone on that team is sucking right now and I have no doubt that Chavez's numbers would increase big-time if he came to the Sox.
  3. Wow, sorry Mr. Know-It-All. It's in the Daily Herald for a reason. Are you Kenny Williams' or Billy Beane's right-hand man that you know for a fact that this trade won't happen? :rolly
  4. I'm sure that Chavez batting near Frank in the lineup would help his numbers greatly.
  5. Let's be reasonable here. You have to give up talent to get talent. Crede would just be a throw-in so the A's have a 3rd baseman to play. B-Mac would be the main target in the trade. We aren't going to get a guy like Chavez for Crede and some mediocre prospects.
  6. I think Chavez would bat third... LF Podsednik 2B Iguchi 3B Chavez DH Thomas 1B Konerko CF Rowand RF Dye C Pierzynski SS Uribe And yes, that would be a hell of a lineup.
  7. Indeed. There should be no question that we would rather be spending a lot of money on Chavez than Konerko.
  8. Oakland never draws. I don't see how that matters to him. Beane just traded his best two pitchers in the offseason to dump salary and get good prospects. I doubt he is too worried about drawing people to the ballpark after he just broke up the Big Three. He has a low payroll team. I'm sure he could easily do without Chavez's contract considering he is trying to rebuild.
  9. Yep. Chavez has proven to be much more consistent offensively and defensively over his career than Aramis Ramirez as well.
  10. Indeed. With the current free agent market, if Chavez goes back to performing like he normally does it's a very good contract.
  11. He's guaranteed $66 million over 6 years. It's still a lot but let's be accurate.
  12. Heh, one of the reasons Beane would be trading Chavez would be to dump his salary. Trading him in the next 6 years means paying more of his contract. :rolly
  13. Just because he doesn't get many steals, that doesn't mean he's not a helluva lot faster running the bases than Crede. Going from 1st to 3rd on a single is just as important as a stolen base. Crede can't do either.
  14. If we traded for Chavez, Fields could be included in the deal. Who knows? Not sure if Beane would want him or not though. He is struggling pretty badly. If we did get Chavez and the Sox kept Fields, they would most likely convert him to a 1st baseman to replace Gload.
  15. Chavez + Gload > Crede + Konerko In my opinion anyways, especially if we keep Frank.
  16. I'd rather have Chavez than Abreu. Chavez plays a tougher position where we have a definite hole offensively. Abreu is 31 years old, Chavez is only 27. Also, we have Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney performing well in the minors while Josh Fields is struggling. A 3rd baseman is more of a need than an outfielder.
  17. Chavez has a 6-year, $66 million contract that breaks down like this... 2005: $8 million + $500 K signing bonus 2006: $9 million + $500 K signing bonus 2007: $9 million + $500 K signing bonus 2008: $11 million + $500 K signing bonus 2009: $11 million + $500 K signing bonus 2010: $12 million 2011: $12.5 million team option or $3 million buyout
  18. Yep. People forget about Antonio Perez. Nakamura busted but Perez has been great so far. Also, Valenstache should be back after the All-Star break. I don't see them making a move for another 3rd baseman.
  19. Excellent post. Chavez probably realizes that the Sox are his best bet to get out of Oakland since we have Cruddy.
  20. Really late June or the start of July. Kenny traded for Everett and Alomar on July 1, 2003. He traded for Garcia on June 28, 2004.
  21. Yep... Maybe he wants to come to the Sox and befriend the guy who broke his hand?
  22. Sorry. I just assumed that someone would have created a new thread for this rumor.
