Timo at 1st base? :puke
Well, we knew he would be in the lineup somewhere against Byrd. This is why we need the Choad back so badly. Timo has never played 1st base in his career but he has supposedly been fielding grounders there lately.
Chavez has a higher career OBP and SLG than Konerko. I would also value Chavez's defense and speed more than Paulie's. I would rather spend $10 million on Chavez than $10 million on Konerko.
I'm not saying he is going to pan out. He may or may not. But hell, I'd rather have Chavez at 3rd base and start Gload at 1st base next season, as long as we have Frank for another year. Paulsy is brutal.
If we traded for Chavez, Fields could move to 1st base and we could say goodbye to Paulsy. Field's defense at 3rd base isn't great anyways. Unless, of course, Fields was included in the trade for Chavez.
Byrd has a good changeup and that seems to be the one pitch that Iguchi struggles with. Willie's OBP versus righties is .362 as well. Byrd has a slow delivery. If our speed guys get on they should be running almost everytime.
I'm not worried. We won last night's game. That was the game I thought we really needed Frank for. Tomorrow we face Paul Byrd, who is very tough on righties. Obviously, we will miss Frank but I don't mind Everett as our DH tomorrow. Then we have an off-day on Thursday and I think Frank will be back in the lineup on Friday against the Indians.
